Vanity 6 is funkier, and I like the new wave element to it. I like Sheila's first record too, but it's more spotty.

Yeah, I agree. The good songs on the glamourous life are good, but the bad ones are pretty bad.

Vanity 6 overall, but the greatest songs on Sheila's first album are better than Vanity 6, imo.

Sheila E. all the way. There's some fun jams on the Vanity 6 record, to be sure, but no cohesion. Every song on Sheila's record not only slams, the whole record works 2gether beautifully. All the songs on both records r part of the Prince universe, 2 b sure, but Sheila's record is like its own sexy-hermetically sealed world, and I dig it. Oliver's House particularly delights.

You beat me to it! I was gonna call foul myself!

Sheila's is great through and through. Oliver's house and Strawberry Strawcake are under-appreicated funk gems!

Vanity 6 is really only good for Nasty Girls and If A Girl Answers.

I completely agree...When I listen to Vanity 6, I only listen to Nasty Girl and If a Girl Answers. But on Sheila's album, Glamourous Life, Shortberry Strawcake and Oliver's House are far superior. Plus, Sheila is a musician.

Shortberry Strawcake = good
Oliver's House = okay
Noon Rendezvous = bad

Are you SERIOUS?!?!?!
That is one of my all-time favorite tunes!!!!
You need to listen to it with a glass of wine (or hot cocoa, your choice) in hand and savor the melancholy feel of it.

Noon Rendezous is an incredible song. Sheila may not be the most incredible singer but Prince's songwriting here is beautiful and the track a gem.

Both albums are good. Totally different, but both represent P's state of mind at the time. Late 81-early 82 when P cut Vanity's album, it showed his new wave funk material. With Sheila, same thing, but definately more glitzy. But this is where P was at the time, Hollywood. Mentally. He knew he was doing Purple Rain and that was going to blow him through the roof. Plus, u can't beat P during his early 80's period. 81-88 actually, he was killin'. But 81-84, he was in a serious zone.

This is unfair. Like asking a father, which of your daughters is your favorite. I like them both. Honestly, I keep changing my mind from minute to minute. So I'll say it's a toss up. Now which album cover did I stare at the longest? V6 without a doubt...

And? It's still better musicianship on Sheila's.

And I just wanted to make sure that you knew that you were comparing Prince to Prince and not Sheila to Vanity 6.
