Prince attends Mike Phillips performance in Hollywood

http://www.eurweb.com/sto...m?id=23482

(November 17, 2005)

*Big props to Mike Phillips AKA "Mike Philly" for puttin' it down last night at the Garden of Eden nightclub in Hollywood. The Hidden Beach Recordings sax-man had the audience in a mellow, but groovy mood as he blew through his repertoire. In the house to bear witness was the Purple One himself, Prince, who Phillips also plays for when he tours. Other notables enjoying the saxy sounds included former Dallas Cowboys receiver & ESPN sportscaster Michael Irvin, Singer Allyson Williams, Mandrill's Ric Wilson, 94.7-The Wave's Pat Prescott and EUR/EURweb's Lee Bailey.

I saw him open for Jill Scott and I thought he put on a pretty good show for a horn player. The rythmic breathing thing was cool....ONCE.

Like WOW!!! This Is A Tuff Crowd... Mike Phillips Used To Play 4 The Band I Currently Gig With. Prior 2 Even Knowing This I Saw Him Playin' With Anotha Band Years Ago B4 He Blew Up... They Opened 4 Spyro Gyra. He Had The Entire Audience Mes-Merized With His Playin'... This Is Like 10 Years Ago... Now He's Come Full Circle With His Own Thang, His Own LQQK, His Own Sound, & I Think He's 1 Of The Freshest New Sax Voices On The Horizon... The Fact That He Plays With Our Guy prince Should Allude 2 His Skillzzz... Saw Mike @ The Legendary Jazz Club The Blue Note, NYC 2 Years Ago... Funniest Thing Was 2 C This Sophisticated Stuffy Type Crowd Literally Jammin' 2 Hip-Hop Grooves & Had No Idea. Me & My Crew Could Name Every Hip-Hop Classic Mike Was Runnin' Through, But The Crowd Just Jammed Along Unaware Because 2 Them It Was Simply, "GOOD AZZ MUZAK!!!" KEEP YO EYE ON MIKE... Only Non-Athlete Signed 2 Mike Jordan's Jump 23 Clothing Line... Even Jordan Was Impressed By This Young Man's RAW TALENT!!! PEACEEEEE!!!

here is the site for the club...

Dangit I could have walked there from my crib sad ....anyways it is just as well. Most of my friends have told me what a terrible "velvet rope" experience they've had there although the decor is hot.
