I always found it funny how in the music business, there's such a hierarchy amongst the women who are involved with (accomplished) professional musicians; there's a class of girls that fall into the "groupie" group, and the "super-groupie" group (they're sometimees lumped with the "new girlfriends")...then you have the long term girlfriends who get lumped in with the wives...then there are the "platonic" friends that usually have some weird assed elevated status as muses and confidantes...and what I've seen is that each class within the hierachy has its own scheme in the whole game of things, complete with a whole set of social politics that determine how they treat others and also how they are treated (respective of their "social status" in the biz...) very entertaining to watch, indeed....! | |

I remember watching him do this from inside "The Womb" at Glam Slam in Miami Beach...just standing there spying on people below in the general club area...I didn't think much of it at the time, but in retrospect, the whole "two way mirror" thing was kinda funny to me...I mean, he would just stand there in the secret VIP room watching to see if people downstairs would dance to remixes of his songs, and send down notes to the djs on what to play next to pump the crowd up if things got too lackluster...damn, those were fun days ... | |

A question for the ladies who shared their Prince related stories....
There will always be certain perception of Prince and his treatment of women. If Prince was not as "controlling", do you think he himself would be treated "justly" by women ? I merely am saying that is it possible for Prince to feel he would be in an uncompromising position were it not for his commanding "role" as "boss" ? ...in business and social relationships. Because of his small stature, being black, quiet demeanor ... | |

Interesting question. I've always got the impression that Prince as much as he loves beautiful women he kinda resents their power and their ablilty to use their sexuality to get what they want. Hmmmmm....maybe that jelousey resulted in his harnessing of the more feminnie sexual expressions? | |

One reason I like to perform my songs live even in the smallest cafe is so that I can gauge people's reaction to the songs. There's nothing like it. I don't find what he did here strange - it makes sense - to test market the creations he's trying to sell. You seem to have a lot of insider experience. I wonder how women/girls treated him before he got famous. Probably not that great since he's so small. His choreographer and high school classmate told me that in high school he was considered "annoying" by people. He would butt into crowds and hang around. He probably didn't get that much attention. I was at a high school football game last night and saw a small guy about Prince's size trying to impress the bigger guys by acting real cool and rapping and swaggering. And the big guys were just chillin - I guess they were trying to be nice. But the little guy seemed like he was just trying to hard. Unfortunately, all of us get judged by our looks, and I'm sure that affected Prince. But I think his controlling ways also have to do with other psychological issues. He's rich and famous now and can have almost any woman he wants. I don't think it is necessary for him to emotionally abuse his women though. That's a different dimension.
