Why Prince & Michael Never Wrote a song together or even made a video?

In the 80's I was a big fan of both Prince & Michael Jackson, and I use to always hear DJ's on the radio battle there music, but I always wondered why they never got together, and did a song or video? I thought It would have made Billions. There were rumors that michael wanted Prince to do the Bad video, but he declined. Is that rumor true? biggrin

Yes it is true. I think that they never did a song together because of several factors. One, despite their simularities, they are equally as opposite. I don't think they could put aside their differences and egos long enough to settle on a collaboration that they would both be satisfied with. Also, for various reasons over the years, I don't think their scheduals allowed enough time to dedicate the time necessary to making a song good enough for two of the biggest musical icons of the 80's.I do wonder what a song by both of them would be like.

The title track from Bad was originally intended as a duet with longtime rival Prince. Prince was approached and briefly considered taking part in the project, but eventually decided against it because of the first line ("Your butt is mine"). He later remarked that the album was called "Bad" because "they didn't have enough room to spell 'Pathetic'". Years later, Quincy Jones told a different story when he said that Prince told him and Jackson he didn't want to participate because "it would be a hit without (him)".

He told Chris Rock during the Emancipation Tour that "The first line of the that song is "Your butt is mine". He said, "Now you ain't sayin' that to me, and I damn sho ain't sayin' that to you. Right there we have a problem".

remember when people were callin Prince "his royal badness", maybe Michael was trying to compete with P with the "Bad" album and video, the long black and white version with Wesley Snipes was so corny, "you aint so bad", P made a very wise decision by not getting involved with that. , why is Michael naming his kids Prince?

Wise decision to turn down that song.

Prince was going to do the character in the bad video but changed his mind when micheal would not change the line;
Your butt is mine...
People would have taken it the wrong way.
Whose Bad???
sorry if that was over your head...jump up and try to catch the point next time.

Yeah, Quincy talks about that on the "Bad" special edition cd.

Michael has released only 5 albums since 78' where Prince has released about 25 since 78'

The two of them wouldn't have worked well together at all...

I seriously think if they would have collaborated ( in the way that was described) on Bad it may have been career suicide for Prince.

Prince is obsessed with his but. Wesley snipes didn't care.

Ha, funny how michael created perhaps one of the best pop albums of the 80's that year, as did prince. A good year creativly for them both.

I dont believe that "pathetic" comment that Prince supposedly made about the Bad album. I would go by what he said to Chris Rock on film and what Q said on the Bad CD about the whole incident.

I don't understand the desire to even collaborate together.
The 2 of them are so creatively different.

And look who michael has collaborated with... watered down Stevie, watered down Paul McCartney...
Prince was going for the edgier audience... Prince's audience is really not MJ's audience.
Not counting the Thriller CD which was MJ's extreme to the left (funk/rock), and Purple rain which was Prince's extreme to the middle,
they really appeal to a very different type.
MJ style to me is more "Man in the mirror", Butterflies", Prince is "hot thang", "Shhh".

Glad they haven't done anything together. Hold out until the day they are both old, decrepit and has-beens (yeah, I said it... y'all know one day it will come to pass); when they both need some money because they are 99 years old and in the market for a new crib for the new baby with the new wife... then they can cash in.

The title of the song MJ wanted Prince to work on was called Jesus Juice, but Larry and the JW's wouldn't let Prince touch it (... the song, I mean).

I asked Mani about it yesterday (as i was ordering at the driving thru at McDonalds) - she understandably didn't want to discuss Prince, but after she took my order she proved that it was her sense of humor that once attracted Prince to her (like it was ever her looks...) - the joke she told was this: Q: whats the difference between michael jackson and a pimple? A: a pimple doesn't cum on your face tell you're at least 11 years old.

I thanked her for the laugh and the burger, then drove off. just thought i'd share.
