Is Jill Jones' First Album Worth The Asking Price?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eB...RK:MEWA:IT

This is actually relatively cheap for this album. I've seen it go for upwards of $100 on eBay. I've wanted to hear it for some time now - I only know Mia Boca - but this seems really expensive.

It's a great album, IMO something quite special from the Prince camp. At this price it's definitely worth it, both in terms of the music and the collectibility.
Make sure it's a genuine CD though and not a CDR, though I don't know your likely it would be to try and rip you off.

I've got it on vinyl.
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

yeah CD copy does become rather pricey...I have a extra cassette copy...without the liner notes...plays well nonetheless...I found most of the tracks online and was able to make my own cd...

I haven't heard this. Hell, I've heard Prince's demos of "G Spot", "Baby You're A Trip" and "All Day, All Night", but never Jill Jones'.

I LOVE this album. But I don't know if I'd pay that much for it.

Nothing that doesnt have Prince on vocals is worth that price in terms of music. As far as collectibility, sure but Jill Jones isnt exactly Chaka Khan. Most anything wit the Paisley Park label is worth more than the average CD to a true Prince collector/fan. In light of the fact that I paid $8 for this at a used CD store back in the mid 90s, I feel as if I inadvertently made a very good investment consider the percentage increase in the perceived value. There are sdeveral better Paisley releases in my opinion - namely Ingrid Chavez, Mazarati, both Madhouse albums, and both Sheila E albums - even Pandemonium by the Time.

You know all thaose CD's are way overpriced. These things ended up in the bargain bins faster than you can say Prince. I would NOT pay over 30 bucks for any of them (they are collectables). The music is just not that strong...and to pay 100 bucks for the ONE good song that exists on most of these..it just is not worth it.

The best stuff out there IMO are

the Time Albums(though they are not that rare) &
Vanity 6 (that's a GREAT disk...probably the strongest of the protege stuff)

Shelia's aren't that good, although Glamorous Life, Love Bizarre and Koo Koo and great songs...she has a few other decent songs scattered amongst her albums...but for the most part they are kinda dodgy

Apples is even WOrse..aside from Sex Shooter...the rest is all cheese...pretty hokey stuff.

Madhouse is interesting...and I think because of what it is should fetch a higher price. The music is good...but the concept and musicianship on them should be noted.

And the last 2...the Family & Jill Jones...I think are Highly overrated. I think they get allocades for who's on them and not really for the music. The Family's is better than Jills...but again, I like the funk, and the family has the funk. I like G-Spot and All Day All Night...But it is Prince's versions of those songs I like...they sound better when he sings them.

I think your best bet if you want to have these on CD is to trade for them ar have someone make you a copy (If you have those connections).

Prince's versions of Baby You're A Trip and All Day, All Night" are better. I think Jill version of G-Spot may be better than P's demo.

Hell no. Get somebody to copy the album to a cdr for you.

Can't believe nobody mentioned "Violet Blue" which IMO is an absolute classic. I love the album, have had it on CD since 1987 and would never ever part with it, though I've been tempted a couple of times when I saw the ridiculous bids on it on Ebay. Best tracks: Mia Bocca, Violet Blue, All Day All Night and Baby You're A Trip. Clare Fisher is a genius smile

Someone made me a CDR years ago, before CD burning was widespread. (I had the cassette back in the 80s).

I still wanted an "official" version but didn't want to pay $100 on ebay.

Finally a won one for like $50 on ebay.

Best songs are:
Viloet Blue, Baby You're A Trip, All Day All Night, Mia Bocca, her version of With You.

If you don't know the music, first hear it and the decide if you really want the official version for your colletion (like I did), but $100 was to high for me.

There are a few decent tracks on there, but I wouldn't have paid this price for it. I'm still looking for The Family (some great Clare Fischer work there too). I might be tempted to pay some decent money for that one.

It could have been better but I like it. I bought it on vinyl back in the day and let a friend borrow it and never got it back. I finally found it on vinyl again at a thrift shop about 2 years and guess what I paid for it.....

50 cents!!!!! And the damned thing had never been opened and was still sealed. Talk about luck!!!!
