Prince and his Women - the race factor

Okay now eye'm pissed! pissed

there r stupid ass posts going on in mani threads!! ppl r saying that P only dates Latin or light skinned black women. u guys r so ridiculous! Prince has dated every type of woman on earth... eye take personal offense 2 the stupidity of these posts cuz when eye was lil Prince came along and he put a Latin gurl in his movie (Appolonia) When NO ONE in the American media would touch us with a 7 foot pole (unless we were going 2 play a maid or some ghetto spanglish speakin' crack-head). He gave a Latin chick a leading role!

Eye remember looking at MTV and seeing all these white rockers singing about these blonde, white, long legged, blue eyed, godessess and NO ONE ever looked like me or ppl eye knew or someone eye COULD turn out 2 b like..... EVER... All these rockers singing about chicks like Christie Brinkley barf and instead of using the Bobby Browns and Tawney Kitain's (famous white music video chicks of the 80s) Prince went the complete oppossite way!!! and eye was lil looking and the Kiss Video and thinking wow, she looks Hispanic!!! It was great, as trivial as it may seem now 2 everyone, it was HUGE back then cuz ain't nobody put gurls like me or my family members on TV!

Prince came along and he put women like the gurl 4rom the "kiss" video who has a very latin look (short, black hair, coffee eyes, exotic face) and acknowledged OUR beauty, and made it COOL 2 be Latina b4 MOST OF y'all trend FOLLOWERS started sweatin' our asses and our thick thighs cuz of J HO... D&P had the same look, so did Mayte, Vanessa Marcil and so on and so on.....

so 4 the record let's remind these idiots that he has dated

Carmen Electra = White
Mayte = Puerto Rican
Susannah = White
The chick 4rom "Fame" = Black
Mani = Black
Appolonia = Mexican
Vanity = Black
Kim Basinger = White

Prince has always dated ethnic looking women, usually in the vain of Vanity, he's stuck on that look for some reason. I think because when he saw Vanity he saw himself as a woman (something of that nature, that was 1982). Note, he never dated Apollonia...that was fabricated for the fans, she was married at the time. Don't let the ignorance bother you. Most of these people are casual or new fans who don't know how to recite the alphabet backwards. You have to keep in mind, most of these people who post are probably kids and are clueless (talkin' out the side of their necks)...you feel me. cool

Peace, Serveitupfrankie*

That's exactly what I said..Read what I said? Mani is Black? Nobody said Mani was Black they said she was ITALIAN...TESTOLINI is her last name... Is her Mom Black or Hispanic? Like I said Prince Basically dates Spanish Women or Latin Woman. If Mani is Black well that's the first time anybody ever said she was.

She's Mixed Right? Or she could be Sicilian? Not All ITALIANS are Fair Skinned. Alot are Olive Skinned with dark eyes. Look at some Italian Actors. Ya know what's Odd Scarlett Johansan said she's italian and she Totally doesn't look Italian. Purple Charm that's Kinda a racist comment like Italians Can't be Tan? Are you ITALIAN? There are Different Parts of Italy. Maybe she isn't ITALIAN but Isn't TESTOLINI an ITALIAN Name?

How is it racist for me to say that she is the darkest Italian I have ever seen? That is not a tan, that is her natural complection.

I never stated that I thought she was Black. Did you not read what I typed. I said that she is the darkest Italian I have ever seen. What difference does it make whether I am Black or not. If I have never seen an Italian that dark, then that's what I mean. There are other groups of people that are dark other than Black. She actually has the complection of Indians that are from India. Anyway, it doesn't. Prince has a preference for racially ambiguous women, you can't quite tell what they are.

And as EVERYBODY KNOWS I Happen To Think ALOT of BLACK WOMEN are Beautiful. Alot Of My Black Friends Are Beautiful and so I'm Definitely Not Anti-Black woman. I dig them alot and I Love black Woman's fashion Sense. Very Fashionable Girls. Alot of black Woman HATE MY FASHION sense Actually cause It's Rap and Punk . Alot of Times The Black Friends Hate My Style or my Booty Hanging out but I don't Care bout that anymore. I wanna be Out there. I Like my Booty Out also. I am NOT TRYING nor do I want to be CONSERVATIVE in Dress. I Seriously Couldn't give a rats Ass anymore what CONSERVATIVES have to say bout my STYLE.. PLease Keep ya OPINIONS to YOURSELVES as It's RUDE and HURTFUL and I wouldn't say anything Rude to You so Why Insult people. If I wanna be a FREAK well Either ya My Friend or F OFF! I Ain't Changing for NO ONe and I Know I was saying stuff awhile back but Now I really Don't Care. I like other people should be Individuals and to be like Cookie Cutter people is BORINg and OLD. I Can see dressing in such a way for work but there are times when People just gotta be Themselves. I truly Don't Judge and I Certainly don't Judge by Clothing. That's downright STUPID! People R Cool and if ya gonna DISCRIMINATE with CLOTHING

True Purple Charm. I once said she looked Indian. Prince does Like Mystery and he does like woman who are Mixed blood well that was his preference for Purple rain..Racially Mixed or hispanic and no taller than 5'6. he has his Look but maybe that was because Vanity was 5'5..1/2 and mixed blood and he wanted someone to fill in be his match in the movie. ActuallyVanity was darker Complected than Appolonia plus Apples said this about Vanity which I gotta Laugh on..said...I wear Heels shoes, Rhinestones..Vanity wore boots.. she also hinted that She Appolonia brought Class to the Movie. She hinted that vanity Had none or Lacked it. who cares everybody Loved Vanity. His real choice after Vanity was SHELIA E and really why wasn't She Considered as a Choice for Purple Rain? Funny how all the Great Songs went to Shelia. By the way she was Gorgeous opening for Prince way back. I tell ya even if she is Older he shoulda wed her cause she has been with him forever but she said he wanted the Hottest Young Thing. Guess he was ALWAYS a PLAYBOY. Well. these are just things I read.

Prince dates who he wants to date.

Not like the man has a hard time finding a woman.

Although it's about damn time he found a purple woman to match some of his stuff.

it's funny how some people are saying he has only dated light skinned black women in his long line of women, but are we forgetting that Nona Gaye is clearly brown skinned?

It doesn't matter really, as long as he is into women (no offense to the gay guys). Even if he was homosexual, u can really do anything but either accept it or through all his cd's out the window. It's not up to us to analyze every single thing that P does, all we can do is just keep enjoying his music, and love him for who he is.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Vanity and Mani are not black; Black is Malinda Williams or Tweet or Monica or Brandy or Badu.

Prince has always dated ethnic looking women, usually in the vain of Vanity, he's stuck on that look for some reason. I think because when he saw Vanity he saw himself as a woman

Maybe it could have been that way for PRINCE, but to me, it seems MORE LIKE, he saw his idea of how women should look.

Princes seems to think that women (in the vain of Vanity) are more womanly, I guess. I mean, they have the long hair that they can whip and flick (that's so womanly and so girlish). And maybe to some (like PRINCE) Vanity types are the epitome of what a woman should look like.

My friend from college (she's from Kenya), she said to me:" I feel so insecure around Brazilian women because to me they embody womanhood."

Prince trips off beautiful faces.

She is the darkest Italian I have ever seen.

Oh and I read that Manuela was Egyptian and Italian. When I look at Manuela, I don't see black. I see mixed. Her skin may be dark, but she's not a black girl. Maybe growing up she considered herself black, I don't know, but she looks mixed to me and so does Vanity.

I would love to see PRINCE get with, say, a Lauryn Hill, but he just seems to "dig" the chicks with that hair that can get wet without curling up (I know what I am talking about. This boy said to me that he liked white chicks cos their hair doesn't get "nappy" in the rain and cos they can wash their hair daily and it smells so good, and, boy, I was pissed, cos that is so shallow!!!!!)

There are other groups of people that are dark other than Black. She actually has the complection of Indians that are from India.

At first I thought Manuela was Indian (from India), too. I was shocked to read that she was Egyptian and Italian. Well, there are plenty of other races darker than black, but don't call them black or else they will have a fit. Some indians and spanish people are waaaay darker than me.

Well, I hate speaking on this topic, though. I get a bad taste in my mouth cos PRINCE (like most men) has a thing for women that look like Vanity (with hair so long and so wide and cheeks and noses that can get red in the winter time).

Is Egyptian not Black? Where is Egypt people? Egypt is in Africa. "Black" people come from all over the world of course, not just America. If Mani is part Egyptian, then she is part Black. Again, Egypt is in Africa and if she was from any other part of African (Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, etc.) then you all would consider her Black. For some reason, since she has Egyptian ancestory, it's not registering that she is.

And what is this mess? :
"Vanity and Mani are not black; Black is Malinda Williams or Tweet or Monica or Brandy or Badu. "

Black is much more diverse than you must realize.

She is mixed. That is what I am trying to say. She has black in her, but you can't just call her black, that's ignoring her Italian side. She is biracial and that's that.

And what is this mess? :
"Vanity and Mani are not black; Black is Malinda Williams or Tweet or Monica or Brandy or Badu. "

I'm just saying there is a difference -- Mani is biracial, Tweet and Malinda and Brandy and Monica and Badu come from families where both parents are fully black, that is all I meant. That is what I consider black, not black/spanish, not black/white, not black/italian, not black/asian, but plain black. You probably consider Amerie black, but she is black/asian.

And I know where Egypt is. But my African friends hate being called black. They make sure to say they are Egyptian, Somalian or Kenyan, South African or whatever! My Somalian friend, he is darker than me, but he does not like being called black and he dates only white or biracial girls or other Somalian girls. He just isn't attracted to black girls (like Monica, Brandy, etc.), but he would talk to Manuela and Vanity with ease (he wouldn't consider them black). Many of my African friends (from Liberia) don't date black american girls. But I'm getting off the subject.

Prince has his preferences and so be it. But I wonder if he saw, say, a dark skinned or white girl that he was "feeling," would he say, "Oh, but I can't like her, she doesn't look like Vanity"? I am pretty sure PRINCE just doesn't come across all these same type of women. He goes after them. He doesn't want anything else.

Ah well.

I see..so, if you are Black American, then you are just "plain black". I would bet that Monica, Brandy, and the other "plain black" women you mentioned probably have Native American in them as well. Of course, I have NO idea if this is true, but a large number of Black Americans have Native American blood as well. A large number of them don't, but the point is that you can't tell by looking. To you, they are simply "plain black".I understand that you are basing your words off of appearance alone. I just think you could dig a little deeper with your perception. "Black" isn't just "Black American". That is ridiculous. In that case Black people in Europe are just European, not Black.

What someone would like to be called is totally their preference. That is fine and I could not care either way. Even now, I'm just stating my two cents, there is no malice or anger intended. But just because someone from Somalia doesn't want to be called black, when they come to America, unfortunately, YOU and most other people will consider them "plain black". You KNOW this person, so YOU know they are Somalian. If you didn't know them, you would just call them "Black" like you are doing with the Black artists you are naming. In America, it seems, if you look black, then you are black and that's that.

Also, I am coming from the point of view of a woman with a Black, Native American, and Irish background. I've been told I don't look "all black" and I understand that I am not "all black", but do you think anyone cares if they see me and just see nothing but a black girl. No. They will consider me just a"plain black" girl. Even Halle. Look at her. We all know that she is mixed, but SHE has even commented on how she was discriminated against because many would look at her and see only "plain black". I agree that if you have many backgrounds, you should embrace and love them all, but the problem is American perception of black. If your looks favor the black stereotype, than you are nothing but "plain black".

Also, please know, regardless of my tone, I mean no harm to anyone posting. This is only for discussion purposes. We all have a right to state our minds. I am all ears.

Oh, my LAST comment for now, I promise LOL:

There is nothing "plain" about black. Black is beautiful (so cliche, but so true). Just wanted to say that. I know that no one referred to being black as being plain in that fashion, but it HAD to be said.

As far as Prince and his preferences, I say let him have them. We all do.

We are on this board because of him in some shape, form or fashion. He can date and love whomever his heart desires. If he is happy, then I am happy for him.

This HAS to be one of the most stupid threads EVER!!!!!
(And for the record, Zelaria, some of your comments make NO SENSE whatsoever-
Black women are very fashionable "girls"????? HUH?????)
The issue of race classification is just another dividing tactic. Represent who you are, where you are from, who your family and friends are and what you stand for in life, then what people chose to label you as will make no difference. Stop trying so desperately to put everyone in a little box and judge people by their actions, by the mark they leave in this world, by their heart, courage and strength and not by their race. Damn, class is dismissed children...
