Hey, what happened to that WB slave thread?

Leave this site alone for five minutes and threads just disappear. What happened? Did it turn into bitchfight about race? I know that every time that subject comes up, things get nasty, but I thought it was an interesting discussion.

I don't remember that thread taking a racial turn. However, it did turn into a bitch-about-Bart fest. That guy has quite an effect on people.

Ah, so that's what it was. I don't have to read that to know what it must have been like.

"WB slave period" is very controversial period. Some people get carried away with subject. Prince jumped on a nerve of a alot people, with the word "Slave". In the end once dowloading came in, it killed the record company sales. Prince is not the only one to have issue with his record company and he won't be last. Prince just took a stance that was much more different that what other people would do that was in his position.

The Slave Period was Prince just being a maor brat. Owning his masters, at best... and first of all there is A LOT of evidence that Prince didn't even know what the hell his masters were... Anita Baker said he thought since he possesed the master tape he "owned his masters"... but no matter what it only gives him bragging rights in the Hollywood pissing contest. He'd still need to license them to someone else to make any money off the rights, and he was generating millions, actually hundreds of millions of dollars off his tours, so... ya know, he was such an abused slave.

I blame Susan Rodgers for all of it. If she wasn't all fan-girl lovey-dovey on his every move, he'd never have started collecting the tapes, misunderstanding the contracts and licensing, and then feeling betrayed that he was bound by the terms of his hundreds-of-millions-of-dollars-winning-formula with WB.

One more thing... for a guy to yell slavery and racism, when he has all the money in the fuggin world compared to the average individual, and especially the average African-American.... that he largely tricked off on strippers and models and assorted baubles and bullshit... it's just plain irksome. You know how many people start businesses with no money or loans? Prince had principle for days. Where did it go? Yeah I know there was some tax write-off charity, here and there, but like 97% of it was pure waste, especially after dying with no will. Magic Johnson, invests in Black-owned businesses. Did Prince do much of the same? As far as I can tell...no.

- Lord he invested in his own businesses and donated millions to charities and non-profits that actually help people learn skills so they can get jobs. The whole slave thing was a ploy to get out of the contract with WB because he could not put out as much product as he liked. Seems like a business disagreement. Anywhy no matter if people like his tactics or not he did get the last laugh in the end. Walking not having to come out of his pocket to WB outside of giving them old music he had lying around. By 2004 he was laughing all the way to the bank.

To an extent..yes. There is just a relentless, endless negativity. Perhaps you could take this opportunity to balance some of those notions by..for example...naming 5 songs, Albums, projects..whatever that Prince has created since 2000 that you like and find interesting. By doing so we can understand your interest in Prince a little more because obviously you wouldn't be here if nothing in the past 16 years had held any value for you.

I'm the first person to debate Bart when I think he's providing misinformation or just being negative for the sake of being negative, but, in the case of this thread, I don't think that anyone got nasty. I could be wrong, but I don't remember anybody attacking Bart or anyone else for personal aspects. But, it seems that any thread that moves in the direction of discussing race, especially the notion of Prince being black, gets removed. This also seems to be the case with the last thread about Prince loving his blackness. Far as I remember, no one got nasty on that thread either, and it was removed. I guess it is no longer allowed on this site to discuss anything in regard to Prince being black, no matter how civil the posters are. The only other guess is that the OP asked to have it removed? But, I'm just guessing since, again, people weren't being nasty far as I could tell.

I'm walking on dangerous ground because I'm going to talk about Mr. B again, but I never found him spreading misinformation. Say whatever you want about him, but he knows his stuff. And as to why someone would want to spend his time gathering information about an artist he says he doesn't like, well, we'll never get the answer to that. Only Mr. B himself knows. I don't debate him, that's pointless, but as far as I'm cencerned, he's as welcome as everybody else.

I totally agree with you that Bart knows his stuff and has an exceptional level of knowledge with real detail. I would be curious to know just what he listens to on his own. However, I do sometimes feel like this is, for example, like someone joining a Bowling Club and spending their entire time talking about how Bowling is pointless, rubbish and terrible and repeating this forever. I am genuinely interested to hear the tracks or projects since 200 that Bart likes, if any.

Let me be clear, if you like one bar of one song that Prince has created or you like everything or somewhere inbetween, I absolutely think it's great to have you on this forum. I just don't feel it's that healthy to have such relentless negativity. This isn't politics, this is supposed to be a forum about an artist that interests us all, that is not to say we love everything, but it is hard to see that Bart really enjoys any of it for some decades now.

Soooo agree with this, not specifically in regard to the poster being spoken about, but the overall negativity being thrown at the person who this forum is about. Why are people here who don't like Prince and have absolutely NOTHING positive to say about him? The majority of us aren't here to hear from haters and shit-talkers, it's not why we come here to post and read. Wth is up with that???

Welcome to "the org", Mumio…they can have you, but I'll have your love in the end nod

yes he does know his stuff... so the paradox is... how can someone who knows so much about Prince's history, music and recordings, can be so spitefull about him with every post.

it's just so odd, and deranged, to spend so much time researching about someone you always show negativity too... that's the issue. the issue isn't if he knows or doesnt know his stuff, it's like saying i dont like football yet every book on football and every game i'll watch it... but i don't like football... it's just odd especially for someone his age.
