Discussions regarding race/color

In light of what Prince stood for, was about, etc., I think it's highly disingenuous to simply erase threads that pertain to race, color, or however you want to refer to the subject. We are all adults here, and nothing, especially now, should be considered off-topic to the point that it's deleted when discussed.

Prince made no bones about his thoughts on the subject, so I think it's only fair that these discussions be allowed to flourish here on Prince.org. Otherwise, are you really paying homage to what Prince was about when he was alive?

Just a thought.

those topics really get out of hand, as is why P&R is he most moderated thread that is usually generating the most 'requests 4 moderation'

Being a bit looser for a period is hard enough to keep watch on PMM, without that extra hostility.

Did you ever visit the Politics and Religion forum!? lol Race conversations around here never end pretty. It was a cesspool of ignorance and arrogance.

I get what you're saying, but I saw nothing hostile in the discussion. Maybe I'm being a bit corny here, but I think that if anything, Prince would want this type of discussion. Only through talking about it can we get over it. I'd like to think it would start here in THE site dedicated to Prince.

I just posted about this (kinda) on another thread.

I grew up with Prince. Prince is part of the reason I care about civil rights and why I think and believe we should be able to all get along and just live for love 4 one another, regardless of our color, gender, sexuality.

Prince was instrumental in trying to bridge the color divide. Yes, we should celebrate blackness, his blackness, and how this country would not be where it is today without everyone pitching in and contributing but not at the cost of disparaging any other race during the conversation.

Especially not when a poster asks what closure looks like for you and someone comments that closure is a white thing. What does that even mean!?
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Prince was black and his blackness played a significant role in the man he became and the sound of his music. Why is that offensive or considered racist? Yes, he was all about bringing different cultures together, but he did so by incorporating their differences not by diminishing their differences. Theres a difference in accepting people's differences but still being able to get along versus diminishing people's differences in order to get along.

That was exactly my point, said way better than I. Thank you! We should celebrate and cherish our uniqueness as well as our sameness. I'd hate to live in an all one race place!

Prince turned me on to so much music I probably never would have found were it not for him. Miles Davis, LaBelle, Chaka Kahn, George Clinton, Maceo, countless others. He gave me rock, funk, rhythm, blues, and SOUL!

I will forever be grateful for his guidance and influence.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

At this stage I have simply removed the thread for a review, based on several reports to the Moderators.

Given the traffic and number of threads we are receiving, a thread might not be moderated immediately.

If you wish to raise such an issue about the site, this can be done in the site discussion forum.

It's not so much an issue about the site, more about what aspects of Prince should be up for discussion. And this is one aspect of Prince that has rarely been allowed to be up for discussion on the site for any length of time, even though it's probably the most important aspect when it comes to who he was.

Furthermore, given that this was moved to "site discussion", it seems like another attampt to dissuade people from discussing the issue. "Prince: Music and More"...I hope you would agree that what was being discussed in that thread and this one is totally about Prince, his music, and much, much more.

I've no objection to you starting a thread relating to Prince's color, race, ethnicity etc..

This thread has been moved here to address the issue you raised at the start.

But I'm not referring to "starting" a thread based on those issues. I'm questioning the fact that these topics are apt to be "disappeared" as if the discussion never took place.

I can't speak for other particular threads.

It wouldn't surprise me if there have been occasions in the past where a thread has either needed to be locked or removed as a result of moderation. That moderation would have been based on the site rules.

I can only speak for the recent 'Ted Nuggent' thread which, as explained above, has been removed for review based on several reports to Mods. Once the thread has been reviewed, I'll post to say so.

That is why usually there are verbal and physical fights after someone dies.
No one is at the same level of acceptance or mourning.
History has shown when the org has discussed this even about Prince, it doesn't go well.

I have a thread ideal I've been working on for a while about PRince's multiracial-ness via many different quotes, lyrics, girlfiends etc but I know right now wouldn't be a good time to post it, and people get really ugly and emotional when dealing with race. Especially 'blackness * multiracialness.
Maybe in a year or two but not now for sure.

Gene Simmons is now saying Prince's death was pathetic

Anyway I'm glad there are no discussions about race/color because, even though the majority of Prince fans were white, he had a way of bringing everyone together - in a divided nation. That is what he was about, but unfortunately you have some hardcore members of this website that choose to see everything in terms of color - which is the opposite of what Prince stood for.

verbal and physical fights? come on, man. Seriously? Yeah it might not be comfortable for some people to discuss, but that's a reason to keep deleting the topic? Even the pictures that are coming out from his youth, the people hew gerw up around, the stories of why they were so close in MN...it's part and parcel of who he was and deserves to be discussed out in the open, not when you guys arbitarily decide when it would be ok. I seriously think Prince would be quite disappointed in that approach.

I don't know about others, but what he did is based on who he was. To deny that is to deny the very thing Prince fought for his entire adult life. we don't see everything in terms of color; it's only when people try to DENY his blackness, that the issue becomes tense.

I mean after someone dies (funerals) family friends etc

history has proven time and time and time again, that it doesn't remain civil.

Dealing with the P&R forum is bad enough.
