Way to go Concerts Forum Mods

The forum is looking so neat and tidy. I especially like how you have made finding something to talk about so convoluted. I know you have made your work harder in that you now have to keep indexes updated where you have threads inside threads, but thats why youre here right? Nothing like giving yourself more to do. It keeps you alert no doubt and for that I am very appreciative.

Of all the forums on the org, you can now officially say that the concerts forum is the least user friendly of the lot. No point in just having free-flowing topics that are easy to find and take part in like the Prince Music forum. No. Its much better to have an indexed thread with threads hidden inside other threads setup like a directory because thats what users looking for something to talk about prefer.

I guess some people may simply ask why. But lets just let them pondur this anomoly. They can ask why the forum cant just be like all the others where topics are started and eventually die and flow freely throughout the topic list. Let them ask why they cannot simply glance at the topic list and choose what they would like to contribute to. Let them ask these simple questions. Because no matter how much they may ask, youre not going to provide any answers. So lets just move on and accept that this forum is an anomoly, completely out of line with how the rest of the org works. And lets rejoice in how neat and tidy, (and oh so small) it looks in the topic list.

I hope you can go one better and have but a single thread in the topic list. This thread can then act as an index listing all the available topics. A bit like the actual topic list except the topics wont fall down the list as they run out of steam. The great thing about this idea is a mod will have to actually add a topic to the list manually, unlike the actual topic list that does this automatically. We know how much the mods like the extra work, especially because of all that money they are being paid to do it.

A single unifying thread, this should surely be the goal. You would be completely redesigning the functionality of the forum, taking it back to the good ol' days of the internet where things were not neccesarily designed with ease of use in mind. We are all old school here, and this is clearly what we want.

Hats off to the mod who came up with this...

Thank you for the feedback.

The suggestion of an index was made by a non-moderator simply to help people find a thread about a concert review.

There has been no change in approach since the index was introduced , which was over 12 months ago.

As with the Prince: Music and More forum, if we have an existing thread running on the same subject, we lock the duplicate thread. If the release of an album, video, new website stream etc.. is announced, we try to avoid several threads on the same subject at the same time. The same is applied in the Concerts forum. If a thread on a subject becomes inordinately long on whatever subject in the P: M & M forum, we will lock that thread (probably adding Part i to the title) and link to a new thread on the same subject labelled as Part II.

I see the White House concert thread, but what happened to the main Washington D.C. show thread?

Look at the forum page. See where it says "Limit to threads from last 10 days" at the top and bottom? Change it to "beginning" or whatever time period you choose. Now all the threads appear. All the forums on this board are set up this way. Since the concert forum is far less busy than the main forums, the topics drop off, and the forum ends up looking "small". It's not a conspiracy by the moderators to make the concert forum less user-friendly. Just change your settings.

I appreciate the index page because I can find old concert threads more quickly. You're not forced to use it, though, and threads aren't hidden in there. You can still scroll and search through the threads like any other forum.
