I don't feel particularly strongly about this either way, but I do feel strongly about it currently being debated in a thread that's meant to be for expressing condolences to The Twinz for the loss of their mother.

If anyone feels that it's not appropriate to have a story like that on the front page of a Prince fan site, by all means speak your piece.

But please, out of respect for Maureen, and for her friends and family (that may or may not stumble upon the thread - particularly given that it is currently front page news), please stick to discussing it here.

As for dismissing the girls as being "just a couple of dancers in one particular era", be mindful that they have been around on and off since 2007 and most recently have been busy rehearsing for the upcoming "Welcome 2 Australia" tour, so, in case it makes a difference, I wouldn't consider them any more or less significant in the Prince world, so to speak, than almost anyone currently in the NPG.

Apart from anything else, something worth remembering is that you never know who is reading what you are writing; ie. if you wouldn't say something about someone to their face, don't post it here.

I don't think the death of a band member's relative is Prince news, but it being on the front page doesn't affect me, or anyone else at all, so I don't think people should be complaining about it. But then, there are certain people who love to constantly criticize site moderation..

I'm not sure how it's fammish nonsense to be concerned about the possibility of two girls who have just lost their mother, coming to a site dedicated to their employer, where they themselves are occasionally discussed (they're on social media so it's not actually an unlikely possibility), and finding a thread that was meant to be in acknowledgement of their mum's passing, and instead finding people questioning the relevancy of the 'news' and even of the relevancy of the girls themselves with respect to Prince and his fanbase.

I'm not saying it can't be discussed, I just felt that it was common decency to do it somewhere more appropriate (ie. here).

I realise what you're saying Jony about there being death every day and why are people so affected, not just by the death of a celebrity, but even at the death of a family member of a celebrity (who they most likely know nothing about), but you could meet a random stranger in a lift one day who mentions to you that they just lost a family member and what would you do? Would you be polite and offer condolences, or would you blast them and say, "Why should I care? I don't even know you. Why are you telling me this?"

Celebrity, stranger, friend. We're respectful and considerate when someone has just lost a loved one. Aren't we? Surely it's not so much about being fammy as it is about just being a compassionate human being.

(Just to clarify that this response is about the discussion that took place on the thread itself, not whether or not it should be front page news. I suspect this mess alone is a good enough reason to rethink that policy, if only to avoid drawing unwanted attention from those who are not interested.)

I don't know. It was probably reported for trolling of flaming, so the mods just got rid of the thread.

Agreed - it should probably be removed from the front page until such time as it returns (or a fresh one is created).

i am still a newbie, and i agree that we don't have to know who has just passed away in princes camp. i found out through facebook coz i added them just the other day and i can tell you they have enough condolences pouring in on their profile there. when my friends dad passed away you know what he told me? he was sad ofcourse but he said he was sick of hearing condolences and sorry's and all that because he was just distraut and he was ok with that. he is still sad about it. so let them be, and grieve in private. i bet you they don't want to hear it, especially from people who never knew their mom or them personally.
