Are "stickies" the kiss of thread-death?

I've often wondered this but now more than ever since I started a thread about a project that is very important to me and it was made a sticky.

Don't get me wrong, I am very greatful that a mod thought it sticky-worthy because it's about a project for a good cause. I just wonder.

I personally often skip stickies (not on purpose, just the way it goes) and go right for whatever is bellow, noticing mostly what threads keep making it to the top due to participation.

I don't know, what say you? hmmm

I suppose if this thread does not get made a sticky (and why should it?) and gets more hits or posts than the "Have a Heart" thread (really guys, DO check that one out!!! beg) the answer will be clear. lol

Can you still edit a sticky? If so, spice it up a little, I guess. lol

Talk about sex with clown make-up on or something. That may add some comments/attention to it or somethin'.....I don't know. I doubt I'll ever get the honor of having a "sticky worthy" thread.... lol

I think your sticky is great! thumbs up!

LOL

I don't know that it's a dead thread. I just wonder which would get most attention is all.
I definitely do NOT want to make it a sex thread. It's something that (even for this asshole joker) is trying to raise support for a serious issue. Not saying that there isnt room for humor. Laughter is always welcome. nod

No, I don't think "stickies" are the kiss of death to any thread. They just bring attention to something important or needs to be out there for folks to know.

I agree with u in concept. And I'm very thankful that the Have a Heart thread was made a sticly. I just wonder what the psychology/mentality of it turns out in reality/real results (posts/thread visitors).

In any case, this thread is now relegated to a slow death for sure, in this forum. lol

They are for me. I just rarely notice stickies. They blend in to the background the same way that the rules and other notes at the top of the page do.

I looked at your thread b/c it was a sticky - I check stickies now because once there was a hot thread that I wanted to go back to, couldn't find it, and then realized after a while that it was up there as a sticky. So I think the mods were trying to help you by making it a sticky. I think, frankly, that it would have floated downward, and perhaps onto the next page by now (the true kiss of death) if it had not become a sticky. There's just so many new threads in GD!

Have a Heart is extremely worthwhile and I applaud you and I wish you all the best! I'm in CA, don't know anyone there in VA.

Unless it's for an IMPORTANT topic, no one would wanna be on stickies that long. You don't see people regularly going to Michael's or the threads about Etta James and the like do you? Right now, the current event sticky is still the Don Cornelius one mainly because they're still updating. There's almost nothing to update anymore on Etta James or even Michael.

They turn into wallpaper that no one reads like all that garish junk at the top of the page.

I skip right past them.
