I can see how the internet in general can desensitize you, I mean at first when I joined the org I could not believe the dialogue going on here, and now I am used to hearing some harsh opinions, I guess my skin is thicker, we should try to be polite even when online, I think

There can be a cool topic of discussion and 3-4 pages into it here comes the Aggrivated Ones, who have to straighten everyone out (someone times they actually target certain members and just have an attitude non stop) I had to put some people on block because I would get nasty Orgnotes. It doesn't make sense

You wonder what kind of people they are in real life, But they are the kinds that hide behind the computer screen to talk junk.

I moderate a similar group like this but it's about Ethnicity Culture & Heritage and we had to create guidelines and rules to keep that stuff out because we get educators, professors, students and just people interested coming thru all the time, and they end up wading through all the BS

and we suspend and ban members who break our rules #2

If you compare the org to a forum like Yahoo for example the org is extremely innocent and well moderated and Yahoo horrible. People slam eachother there into pieces in front of a much larger audience without moderation.

The problem is one of values. There are those who believe in the value of dissenting opinions and there are those who believe in the value of unconditonally supporting the artist. This issue is old as the L4OA days, 10 years ago.

I am one for moderated freedom of dissent. The org provides just that.

i was a member here about 8 years ago... things were so much nicer then.... we all used to just get along... sure sometimes we'd disagree... but the worst it ever got was a friendly "oh you're such a nut"... or "sorry silly... but we'll have to disagree on that one... at least we still have prince's wonderful music to agree on"... so things would get discussed... but we used to nut it out respectfully... especially when it came to the subject of race

I joined in early 2004 and it wasn't this dramatic, it has escalated over time. I took a near 4 year break and have come back to find there is much negativity and peeps simply do not respect the opinions of others and will either try to break them down, bully them or have them banned.
