Just before banning someone...

...would the mod let the person know they are being banned?

I just had a bit of a scare where my browser went offline and when I tried to
log back on, I couldn't log back in, and I tried to log in several times. neutral

This made me wonder if when a person gets banned, that they will know ahead of time?

This was the first time this happened to me, but it came back up afterwards.
How do you reset your browser? Does that mean to close it and open a new one?
I can't recall what I did before it came back up, or if I reset it.

you go to Start, Control Panel, Internet Options, Advanced, ... u'll see @ the bottom 'Reset Internet Explorer settings and [Reset] sitting next to it... they tell you to use that feature only when your browser is unusable (in my case was) .. and you hit that and everything restores back to default and works fine again..

Well, when you're banned the site automatically generates an email to the email address on record. Also, one is sent to the orgnote box. At least that's how it's supposed to work. If not, let us know and we'll get on it.

Orgers, please make sure your email address is current and active to receive notices from the Org.

Other than that, if you are not notified, it's clearly a failure on the part of the site - no mod would intentionally do so without notice. A certain amount of things must be done in our system in order to continue with a ban, temp ban, strike, etc. The system wouldn't allow the action unless this step has been taken. If no notice is being sent or received, then something's wrong.

The problem is that if you're banned you can't read your orgnotes, ya know? And yes, the email address should be current or you only have yourself to blame. I wonder if there's any way the system could send out verification emails periodically, I mean that it would send an email you don't have to reply to at all, just a check to see it it goes through. If it doesn't you could be sent a warning orgnote and if you don't update pronto your account is cancelled. Sounds like a lot of work but it would probably save database/server space in the end cos of all the deleted accounts. evillol I'm betting Dan can't keep track of all his 9217621 email accounts/org accounts. hah!
