if anything, this topic shows the ignorance of ALL people in regards to race and racism in this country.

To AnitaThrill or whatever, although I'm not one to harbor on the past ills of this country, but I do realize that some ppl still hurt from the past. My grandfather witness his brother being hung. My grandfather HATED white ppl. I'm not talking two hundred years ago. Those feelings can be past down especially if you're still experiencing similar sorts of hurt and pains today.

This is so stupid.

Lastly, in regards to Malcolm X, if you don't know anything about the man, don't say anything about the man. His attitude about race changed before he died and had alot to do with his death. Learn.

Get over yourself. Maybe Lincoln wasn't such a bad guy either. What do you know about him personally? Your opinions about him are likely based on what you heard in a Prince song, while it's very clear that Malcolm said numerous negative things about white people. Whether or not he eventually changed up, there was still a period where he was a complete pig.

Not even you believe this rationalization. I'd prove my point by uploading a picture of Jesus Christ as my avatar and changing my signature to "There is no god", but it's too much effort and I'd insult christians in the process, so... Why don't you admit you're doing it to nag and be Big Bad IrishEcho?

Don't tell me what I believe. I think Prince is an idiot for what he sings in Avalanche. I think you people are idiots for latching onto Prince for pointing it out - as if it was some grand revelation that Lincoln was anything product of his times. Anything but a politician. Fact remains, without him you might just still be in chains.

I'm sorry for what happened to your grandfather. He has every right to be upset. But how can he hate an entire race because of what a select few did (or however many)?

I'm not racist at all contrary to what Anotherloverholeinherhead says. I get a lot of grief from people because my husband is very black and I am light skinned PR. But I move on and don't let ignorant people like that get to me. It's just not worth it to let shallow people get to you.

She hardly "shut me down", Nep2nes, just because she's not white. rolleyes My points are still the same and just as valid--1. using the term "you blacks" separates and stigmatizes them from the rest of humanity, as if they're subhuman, and 2. her defensiveness and anger about it (when supposedly she isn't racist) tells me there's some personal shit there she's venting...

Anotherlover I've been reading your posts for some time now, and you are a very smart woman. But you got me all wrong. Time to stop playing Miss Universe and Slyvia Brown.

No, in my signature I generally mention black leaders who haven't always been especially kind to whites. For my avatar, I found a perfectly nasty looking Malcolm X which certainly is a valid example.

No disrepect to your situation, but wouldn't that be the most logical scenario? Which side has been done more wrong by history in black/white relations? Which side's grievances would be more understandable here?

See this is what I mean. Why can't we get past what happened and LEARN from history rather than repeat it?

Obviously, you don't think much of Malcom X... So your use of his image is purely provocative, n'est-ce pas?

incidentally prince has never cited malcom x as a hero...try again...

besides that..malcom x had a very public change of heart toward the end of his life...but that doesn't figure into your agenda now does it?

Nice in theory, everyone being loving without prejudice would be beautiful but it's not how it is.

This guy's acting like he has it so hard because of a few of his girlfriend's family members being prejudiced when it's not that unreasonable a concept.

I understand where you're coming from Essence. I just think and hope that if people start doing little by little it can get better. Parents have to teach their children to love everyone regardless of how they were brought up. Back then it was so bad, but we need to move on.

Aannastesia that was a great quote!!!
