multi-page threads

Dear Prince.org

I am not a fan of this new "thread is too long, here's another one v2.0" thing. If loading times are a problem, is there any chance of the site supporting multi-page threads?

Thank you very much.

Ian

Seriously, that would help LOTS nod

It would also make the site more accessable to those on dial up, like me. If a thread has too many images in it, or is too long, I end up not being able to read the thread because it just will not load.

On forums that use pages, it's not such an issue.

So we're all in agreement then - my idea is awesome and BananaCologne should stop wrecking threads at his earliest convenience? Sweet! smile

lol You wish honey tease Actually, you're in the minority - all who've commented on the other threads relating to this (did you even check per chance one wonders?) to date everyone has said it's worked far better - only 3 people (to my knowledge) have said otherwise.

Guess what? You're one of the three. biggrin

Ian, I spoke with Ben about it this evening at some length, and he's going to look into the possibility, pros and cons etc.

Unless I misunderstood, Ian wasn't complaining about combining threads into consolidated stickies - only that the length could be helped by turning such threads into multi-page threads, much like HQ's forums (fora?).

I'm glad Ben is looking into this, but since I'm on broadband at work and at home, I don't have strong feelings either way.

I like the multi-page thread idea too, but some forums with this function can be annoying, because they only allow a few posts per page. Some threads end up being 10+ more pages long because of this. Overall, the idea sounds pretty good.

For modding a thread, it would make things a bit more difficult, as we usually have to scroll up and down from the begginning of the thread to the end to see whats going on, when an argument erupts.

I can see where it would be helpful for people on dialup, and it would also save us from having to start new stickies for popular topics. But I think the number of posts on each page should be set to something reasonably high, or maybe even allow us to set the amount we prefer from within our forum settings.

that sounds good.....because I hate the forums that only allow about 8 posts per page. That's when threads can get out of hand.

And having conversations span multiple sticky threads makes modding easier?

I don't care so much about people on dialup - those hippies can get themselves a goddamn decent net connection or shut the hell up smile However I do think that having multi-page threads would make for a nicer solution than the current practise of locking threads and posting new ones.

How noble of you. Especially considering that I put your idea to Ben in the first place.

In any case, I'm glad the option to keep the posts all on one page was left open, as it's the format I prefer. smile
