Due to incredible worldwide interest all over the internet, I'm proud to announce the return of the worlds most popular Edinburgh fan meetup event, which will take place at an as yet undisclosed secret location in Edinburgh's city centre on Saturday 27th September 2008. Further details will be announced shortly. The venue will be very close to previous nites venues, and in very easy walking distance of about 5 minutes from both the Waverley train station and St Andrews Square bus station, and about 15 minutes taxi ride from Edinburgh Airport for those fans jetting in from across the globe to attend this unmissable event. Please keep your diaries free on that date and check back regularly for further information. Your co-operation in spreading the word about this event will be appreciate greatly. I'll be there

EDINBURGH PRINCE FAN MEETUP
Saturday 27th September 2008 THE CAMEO CINEMA BAR 38 Home Street, Tollcross, Edinburgh Starts 6pm sharp - free entry Dresscode - where what you like/casual _____ I'm very happy to finally confirm the venue for the 31 - 21 Nites in Edinburgh fan meetup on Saturday 27th September 2008 at the Cameo Picturehouse Cinema Bar, at 38 Home Street, Tollcross Edinburgh. It's taken a bit of work to obtain a suitable venue at such short notice, especially on a busy month end Saturday nite in Edinburgh, so to arrange with such a great venue is pretty fantastic. The venue has regular theme nites in the bar, where they have "a night of..." either a particular band or artist, or sometimes a style of music. They don't normally hold these nights on Fridays and Saturdays as normally those are busy days and they don't need events to bring in business, but they have very kindly agreed that we can hold a Prince theme nite in the bar on the given date. Normally the theme nites take place for a 3 hour period from 9pm-midnite, but as this is a Saturday the management have agreed that we can play Prince music from 6pm to 8.30pm, and from there on they will judge the reception from guests and staff, and if appropriate we may be allowed to continue the theme further. So if the music is good, and people like it, and the bar staff aren't sick of listening to Prince, we may get an extension. Whatever happens, there will be music and a bar until midnite, and there are also video screens in the bar, and I'll have specially compiled material for the nite. The Cameo Cinema is one of the oldest cinemas in Edinburgh, and is respected as being the main cinema for arthouse and indie movies, with a large customer base of students and film fans. It's had celebrities such as Sean Connery, Quentin Tarrantino and Irvine Welsh attend premiers. I've personally seen some of my favorite movies for the first time there, such as Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas, Boogie Nights, and Girl 6, to give you an idea of the type of venue. It's an old Elizabethan building but has a modern style bar. The vibe of the bar is a chilled out laid back place for people to hang out and have a drink before and after shows, and we've been asked to respect that and the regular customers. As such, this will be a Prince fan meetup, with Prince music, videos and chat, there will be alcohol on sale, but there won't be any dancing at the venue. The bar is open during the day, so people can turn up early and get in, get a seat and have a drink, I'll be there early, and the Prince music will kick off at 6pm sharp. As the bar closes at midnite, and it's in the centre of town, it's possible for people to continue the night on the town in late nite bars or clubs in Edinburgh city centre, and it's also convenient for people to get the last train or bus home as the venue isn't far from Waverley Train Station, Haymarket Train Station or St Andrews Square Bus Station. You can get buses or trains back to Glasgow from Haymarket which is about 15 mins slow walk or 2 minutes in a taxi. If anyone has any questions, please let me know. The venue, date and time are confirmed, and it won't be cancelled or rescheduled, the show will go on. Prince is not guaranteed to attend, and this is not an official NPG related event. Please help spread the word about this event by whatever means you have, such as myspace, bebo, facebook, etc, and alerting other fans or people who may be interested in attending. Attaching a link to this thread in your org sig, as I've done, is also handy as it alerts people who may not check the fan gathering forum regularly. I'll see you all there - 27th September, the Cameo Cinema Bar, Edinburgh.

Good luck Unique!!!
It's never easy to organise these fan events knowing (from experience) the tremendous amount of time and effort involved. Purple peeps in the scottish area and beyond please show your appreciation - by not only making a committed effort to attend but SPREAD THE WORD by any means neccessary if you want to see more events like this in the future. Peace.

just one week to go!
i was wondering who is coming from out of town and arriving in edinburgh early, and wants to do something during the afternoon, or even meet for a meal about 4.30ish before going to the cameo bar (as i should be there for 5.30pm latest)? if anyone wants to get some food first, let me know by posting here some details, and what type of food you prefer. there is a chinese buffet called jimmy chungs that's 5 minutes away, thats cheap and eat till you pop, and i think the same deal at a nearby pizza hut, but there are other places from japanese food to curry houses and fish and chip shops, it just depends on what people fancy likewise if anyone wants to keep on partying after midnite, let me know and what you fancy doing and i'll try and offer some suggestions or make plans

If that is ok like??? u can come any time u like. the bar is open all day if anyone wants to meet before 6pm, i plan to be there by about 5.30pm at the latest and i'll be kicking off at 6pm sharp (perhaps earlier). the bar is open till midnite so i expect most people will stick around until then and it's a nice day in edinburgh, no rain, and it should stay that way all day there are a fair few people who are going who haven't posted online, and about 25 orgers have said they are coming, so bearing in mind last minute drop outs there should be about 30 of us along with bar regulars, so if the attendance keeps up we will hopefully get to play all nite till midnite, i have videos and enough music to last all week there are plenty of places around that sell food from pizza to sushi and chip shops, the bar does soup and sandwiches and has a fully stocked proper bar i'll see everyone there tonite!

thanks everyone for coming, it was good to see everyone again and for the first time in some cases. it was great that the venue management allowed us to keep playing until nearly 11pm and then they played even more prince until midnite (and still going when i left) with a small MJ interlude of 80s hits, so we ended up with almost 6 straight hours of prince music and videos in the end
what was also good was that both the regulars and bar staff were into it, the manager on the early shift stayed in the bar after her shift with one of the other staff members as they were right into it, and i even had requests from the staff to play certain prince tracks. it turns out they have a few fans who work there, thus they played the hits after i was finished djing. it was also good to hear from regulars who were initially a bit put off by the idea of a prince nite, but they all admitted they liked one track or another and at the end of the nite they enjoyed it and were surprised how many songs they knew and how much they liked them, and they were impressed by the guitar work on the videos on the plasma. that's always been something i've aimed for when doing prince nites, to put on something that won't be offputting to staff, so they aren't sick of hearing prince at the end of the nite. fortunately he has such a huge and varied back catalogue so i can mix it up with rock, funk, soul, jazz and pop styles, and being a bar rather than a club i could mix things up by playing non danceable tracks that i wouldn't normally play at the club prince nites, and threw in a few jam and lewis classics to mix things up further, and of course some cameo at the end of the nite the manager gave me the impression they might be up for doing it again, and advertising it in advance on the flyers, website and in house marketing material, as they distribute a lot of cinema programs across edinburgh, and have quite a big student following. as this was arranged at short notice we were unable to do this, but the bar was still full all nite until about 11ish. i was actually surprised that when i turned up at 5.30 the place was so full there were hardly any seats left i thought it was a cool venue and the staff were all cool, friendly and helpful, so if people like the venue and are into doing this again, i could perhaps try and arrange another date some time in the future with more notice and planning. i don't know if they would be willing to let us have the saturday nite again, and probably not a friday either as those are particularly busy days, and i am aware that a few people travel from fife and glasgow areas etc so weekdays aren't really great, and i really appreciate people making the effort to travel from afar to these events. i particularly like how people travel from france, belgium, ireland, spain, etc and even america in a couple of cases to the london prince parties, as i've never heard of people doing that at any other prince parties held elsewhere in the world, so i want to ensure anything else planned in future is arranged so those travelling can get there and back easily so even if you missed this event, if you are interested in another in edinburgh, either at this same venue, or elsewhere, please let me know by posting here. if we can build up a decent number of regular attendees i might be able to arrange a full on party with dancing. i have discussed this with another club venue who are up for it, but i need a certain number to make it feasible. it is a really great central venue, but i don't want to take the plunge unless i'm sure i can make up the numbers, unless someone with deep pockets wants to take care of the venue costs. i could even possibly arrange a club nite with free entry, which would be great, and it means that people can drag along parners and non fans without them complaining about paying to go to something they don't think they will like (and then we can brainwash them into our perverted musical ways), but i just need reassurance that enough people will turn up by putting on a good attendance at a meetup first so any thoughts on a future event are appreciated [Edited 9/28/08 12:10pm]
