Minneapolis funk inspired excerpt Just read the "Any other musicians around here" thread and decided to post this excerpt for nostalgic reasons. It is an attempt at a bit of electronic Minneapolis Funk and yet unfinished. As it features a Linn sounds beat I thought it might be interesting to some...

That's 2:12 of some groove right there! I like how it builds with one instrument after another. I was waiting for the breakdown back to the begining but I know it's work in process. Keep it up!

It has a nice organic feel. Is it going anywhere or are you like me and like to squat on a groove?

Haha, I am into squatting I am afraid, create a groove is what I can do, creating full songs with bridges and all is a step too far for me I believe. I am not a trained musician, I just like to fiddle around in Cubase. I might try and add vocals to this one though...

The one Prince song that has had the most impact on how I make music is the live version of "17 Days" from the Parade tour. It is the first instance where I hear his layering effect, and when I would listen to it, I would say, "if I ever got the chance to perform my own music, that's how I would do it." So many songs later, here I am. I'll be posting a composition I created yesterday, where I play with the tempo and create the impression of being inside the music.

That sounded pretty cool... what type of keyboard are you using?
Here's my stuff: https://soundcloud.com/jaydeep-bhadra
Much of the material I record is Prince influenced as I've been a big fan for a very very long time.
That said, thanks for taking the time for checking it out!

This is mainly the OP-X II softsynth. It recreates analogue sounds pretty well, especially of the Oberheim type. I have sold my Cheetah analog synth (Oberheim clone) after I bought the OP-X, and I haven't missed it a single bit!
I checked out your stuff and I like what you are trying to do. Your music could do with a bit more umph in the lower registers though, it sounds a bit thin/tinny now to my ears. If you'd beef up the kicks and bass parts you could get a bigger and fuller sound. Not sure if that is what you are going for, but that is just my two cents...
