ANDROGYNINE

i have assigned DreamFirstBorn, Jew a lifestyle project as an opportunity for him to modify the impacts of his lifestyle on the enviornment. It will continue for several weeks. Part 1 of this project involves recording daily baseline activities in three or four categories. The baseline is the normal behavior. Part 2 will calculate the impact of those behaviors. Part 3 will be an opportunity to spend one week trying to minimize the environmental impacts of his lifestyle. Part 4 will be an essay reflecting on the experiences and a quantitative comparison of activities.

This is his submission of Part 1.

wow ANDROGYNINE was right. It was most definately a no sleeper.

It was a gospel weekend for me.

On saturday i filmed a concert in Brooklyn Park for a band called Kofi & The Fire Keepers Christ Covenant Chape. It was such an insance night. Oh yeah i also recorded one of his opening acts her name is FAITH. She was casted in my film "James" but her scenes were cut out.

when we were setting up for the show she walked up on stage to do her sound check and i was like OMG that is FAITH. I didn't know she could get down like that. We had a hug and plesentries. I told her because her scenes were cut out i would film her set as well. She was great. Kofi & The Fire Keepers were on Fire! They are one amazing band.

Then on Sunday we, The DownLoad Society, were asked to film another show for this singer named Ambassador Marron Cassell. She is a singer from Liberya, who has her own ministries. We were contracted to film her before the show, the show and then afterwards comments from the audience. It was such an awesome night.

While we were filming her opening acts, i was tapped on the shoulder by her assistant and was told that she, Marron, wanted to speak with me and bring the camera. So i did. I went back stage where they were preparing for her performance. Hair, Make-up ect. ect.

It was kinda funny because her assistant, Jen, was like we are going in to her private dressing room and wanted to give me the do's and don't. I listen but i was thinking, i've been back stage before. I know the drill, but i didn't say anything. I just took in the request.

Marron was very soft spoken and very pleasent. I asked her if i could ask her some questions with the camera rolling and she said she wouldn't mind that. So i asked her about the album she was releasing, where she got the inspiration for the songs, where she was from and why does she sing. Basic questions. She told me that the inspiration for the songs came from when her daughter died a year ago and how the lord had given her strenght to continue. She said her daughter was her best friend.

I wasn't expecting that answer and wasn't sure how to proceed so i kindly moved on to the next question. After a few question i began to wonder what her daughter had passed from. So i asked her, would you mind if i ask you how your daughter died. She said she didn't and began to tell me the story. It was really sad. She started to cry, I started to cry and the assistants were beginning to scramble getting her make-up redone. afterwards Jen, her assistant, came up to me and said, I can't believe you got her to cry. No one has ever asked her that during an interview. I didn't know if it was good or bad, but she seemed happy about it. After filming their prayer, the band and back up singers were all getting ready for the show. Jen excorted me out of the dressing room and back into the main hall. Then she told me that Marron would be the next performance.

When she came out and started singing i was blown away. AMAZING!

Here is one of the images i captured with Sebastian, of Ambassador Marron.

On the same two days that Education Management Corp. began laying off more than 800 employees — many at Art Institutes across the country — it posted more than 300 job openings at Art Institutes across the country. And as EDMC's battered workforce takes another hit, some supporters are suggesting it may be time to go public with their criticisms of the company.

Sources inside the company began notifying City Paper on Wednesday about the layoffs at Art Institutes in Pittsburgh and across the country including Washington D.C., Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale and California and the Illinois Institute of Art in Chicago. However, sources say the cuts happened at virtually every AI across the country.

Company officials did not return requests for comment Wednesday, but WPXI reported this morning that 60 employees — 20 at the Art Institute and 40 at EDMC’s corporate headquarters — were laid off, according to public officials. About 15 of those employees will be eligible to reapply for other positions.

And there are lots of options to choose from: EDMC’s corporate site currently lists more than 300 jobs available, mostly at Art Institutes.

A source inside EDMC told CP that layoffs nationwide would total about 800. This comes just a month after EDMC told all employees that wages would be frozen to ...re layoffs. The company has sacked hundreds of employees since January as it contends with sagging enrollment and a ...tock price ($3.54 as of this writing).

City Paper obtained an email sent to AI campuses, similar to one sent around in March. The email describes the layoffs as a “reduction program ... to maintain close alignment with staffing in our schools and market demand.”

“The Reduction Program is being driven in part by the demand for certain programs at our schools and we are realigning staff and faculty to meet those demands,” the email states. “The Art Institutes is ensuring schools conform to a structure that is based on the size of our schools, and directing our resources as effectively and efficiently as possible throughout the organization.”

According to the email, the reductions occurred in academic affairs, accounting/finance, admissions and IT. Those departments, according to the email, “have employees who were advised they will no longer have roles with us after September 25, 2012.”

Despite the layoffs though, the email contends that “we remain a vibrant organization. It is important that we continue to strive to be as healthy, efficient and streamlined as possible so that we can continue to invest in and support growth where we see the greatest need and demand.”

The “academic service” positions eliminated, according to several sources, range from department directors to instructors to support staff like library workers. Some of the current job openings listed on EDMC’s website include department directors and program coordinators in several disciplines from math to design. Other available positions range from storeroom clerk and residence life director to librarian and finance director.

The listings cover several schools in areas including Houston, Seattle, Virginia Beach, San Francisco, Tampa and Minneapolis. For many schools this is not the first round of layoffs this year. CP previously reported layoffs in D.C. and in Fort Lauderdale. The Fort Lauderdale campus was reportedly hit with more than 40 layoffs this time after 15 in March.

And like last time, supporters of the school started a petition to show their displeasure with the company’s decision. They once again that the for-profit educator is a public company whose primary owners are large venture capital firms with Goldman Sachs chief among them.

This time, however, the online petition may just be the beginning.

“We are revitalizing this campaign to spread awareness. Except this time we are going to have non-violent protests, put out fliers and let the knowledge spread further than just the internet and word-of-mouth,” wrote the petition’s founder and Fort Lauderdale-area artist and AI student Vaughn Reynolds. “Today 21 instructors and a total of 45 employees were given the layoff notice at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale campus! They fired all but one Department Chair and some Senior Faculty members!”

One of my favorite teachers at the institute informed us at the begining of class that she to would not be returning. Barbara Weiner was one of my most valuble and important figures my development, while here.

I openly cried in class.

My final project in her class will be dedicated to her.

ANDROGYNINE i hope what ever it is your doing, it is for the better cause. Because the institution is falling apart without you hear. about 60% percent of the staff and faculty, including our advisors, department heads and most valued and loved professors were let go the day after you left.

I hope that prince really treats you with as much love and respect as we did when you here at the institute.

still trying to figure out what to do.

one of the last assignment given by ANDROGYNINE via our instructor Dr. Planet, was to conduct an experiment on how much engery we consume. We were to record our daily activities for 2 weeks. The first week to show how much we were consuming and the second week to show how much we improved our over all consumption. Once were finished the experiement we were to write an essay consisiting of 3-5 pages discribing the effects on us and what we learned.

This was for Enviornmental Science.

Here is my essay.

My Life Style Essay

While conducting my life style project one of the main things that I noticed that had a influence on the amount of BTU’s (British Thermal Units) I was consuming, was money. When I started out this experiment, it was during one of my off weeks when I waiting for my paycheck to arrive. I am a person who basically lives from check to check. During that first week I was cutting back on a lot of activities’ that required the use of a lot of things that had an impact on the environment.

For instance during the first week, my industrial energy consumption was really low. With the exception of supplies for a school project, in which I had to purchase an 320g external hard drive, 21 8x10 prints, metal frames, and nails, my only other industrial energy consumption for that first week was 7 packs of cigarettes. This of course was because I was on a very strict budget. I didn’t have the availability to splurge on things that really were not that important.

It was during the second week after which I got paid I started to see an increase in my consuming. But even then after conducting the experiment for over a week already I began to question the things that I was purchasing. Did I really need this or that? I found that if I didn’t really need it, I didn’t buy it. Because of this I had some extra cash so was able to a 20D Canon Camera along with it’s accessories. Though I do know that the production of this camera probably had a significant impact on the environment, what is great about having it is that I can document other things and situations that are doing great harms to the environment, with it. Hopefully bring awareness to people what is happening around us all.

For the most part my water usage between the two weeks was pretty much consistently the same. The first week of the experiment I used a total of 337 gallons of hot water. This was for showers, doing dishes, and laundry. At 337 gallons I used approximately 91,080 BTU’s. What I find interesting is that even though the second week of the experiment I became more aware of what I was using in the amount of hot water I was using and I purposefully tried to be consistent with the first week’s amount of usage. But because I was more active the second week working more outside of school, more professional assignments, I found myself also having to deal with the fact that I had to be more presentable in my professional attire. Thus, longer showers and a few more loads of laundry. The brought up the amount of hot water I was using. The second week of this experiment I used a total of 409 gallons of hot water making it a total of 179,960 BTU’s consumed. I almost had a stroke when those numbers were calculated. What I did learn was that even though I was trying to be conscious of how much I was using I still had an obligation to professional appearance, making it more of a juggling act. Do I spend more BTU’s in this category and skim on the others? Lets find out.

One way I had control over the amount of energy I was consuming was transportation. Instead of riding the bus or frivolously in a car with friends, I choose to not only walk to most location, but I also encouraged my friends to do the same. Instead of driving 15 blocks to their house and back or taking the bus to a near by location, we walked. In the first week of the experiment I calculated a total of 95 blocks walked and a total of 4 miles driven either by bus or car. By calculating the total amount of gasoline consumed for that week, the total amount of energy consumed came to 20,000 BTU’s.

In the second week the total number of blocks walk grew even larger. In all I walked a total of 128 blocks, yet because I had to jobs that required me to ride to the location because of the amount of equipment as well as the distance away from the city, my amount of gasoline also rose. The total amount of miles driven came to 23.5, making that a total of .94 gallons of gas and a total of 117,500 BTU’s of energy consumed. So though my total BTU’s had gone up I was still able to make some significant difference in the amount of energy consumed because I had walked a lot further than the previous week.

I think the most significant chance was the food that I ate. In the first week because my budget was a lot lower I was very careful about what I was eating. I was surviving on lots of fish, vegetables, and no processed foods at all, meaning no fast food. Because I was doing this I felt better and felt as if I had more energy. That was until Matt told me that there was mercury in fish and I shouldn’t eat as much. That had me reconsider eating as much fish in the second week. In the second week I continued to eat lots of vegetable, and alternating between both chicken and fish. I tell you one thing though after conducting this experiment I could not wait to sink my teeth in to one juicy steak. I did, by the way as a celebration for staying disciplined to finish out the experiment.

One thing that remains pretty much the same was the amount of electricity that I consumed during the experiment. For the most part all of the electricity that I consumed came from my refrigerator and my computer. Though the both were on for a 24 hours a day for the entirety of the experiment there wasn’t really that much I could do about it other than maybe not have my computer on as much when I am not at home. I do put it in sleep mode when I leave my apartment. I don’t have many things that I use that are not powered separately. The lights that I used are basically three 60-watt bulbs in my living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. The total amount of time these were being used in the first week came to about 65 hours and 49 hours the second week, because I was more active outside of my home.

After taking in all that I have learned in class I would say that this class and this experiment has had an impact on me. I am more aware of the amount of energy that I am consuming. I would consider myself a low maintenance kind of guy in the energy I consume, so my numbers were as high as some others in the class but what it did teach me was to be more aware of the energy that I am consuming and more so how to balance out the numbers were I need it more and where I use it less, because during this experiment there were times where I didn’t want to consume as much energy as possible but there were the times where I had to because I had to maintain a level of presence in my environment. For instance, if I didn’t wash my cloths or take a shower, I smelled and if I were to walk around stinking all the time it had an effect on how people perceived me as well as enter acted with me. If I didn’t do the dishes I had a sink full of dirty dishes, if I didn’t drive to that location for the shoot, I wouldn’t have been able to take the job.

What I am trying to say is that I became more aware of the choices that I was making in regards to the amount of energy I was consuming. The more aware of the choices I was making lead to me finding more alternative ways, thus giving more choices to chose from. If I take away anything from this class, I will take away a sense of empowerment and I can use that power for the better good of our environment.

Thank you Dr. Planet for bring this to my attention, it has given me more of an insight to our environmental needs and because so, I can and will do more to help improve our environment even if it’s just the little things.

ANDROGYNINE Continues...

ANDROGYNINE,

I have been working really hard on those projects and the editing of them is almost complete, just not quite yet.

Here is one of those images from this weekend that i took of FDeluxe.

i call it:

The Beautiful One

[img:$uid]http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n231/TheDownLoadSociety/Susannah1.jpg[/img:$uid]

Taken with Sebastain.

It's for the portrait series i am working on right now. I am in love with this photo image.

They requested a bunch of the others for use. So i am gathering up 20 of my personal favorites to share with them.

i will have the edited video's of the mural project and Ambassador Marron soon.

Thank you so much for coming back. Thank You.

ANDRGOYNINE,

here is a rough cut of one song from the ambassador's show.

HRH Gregory Alive and I have been working on this non stop for the past few days. This is one of our favorite songs from the show. It plays over and over in my head through out the day. It's very comforting.

we are having some issues on the audio and i am trying to get a better quality. It's killing me. LOL. also for the concert everytime i render it takes 21 hours and i am trying to figure out how i can shorten that.

now back to work.

thanks,

-DreamFirstBorn, Jew

i just got word that the people at 612 Summer program loved your promo footage of the Mural Documentary that they have decided to screen the whole documentary at the event above.

which means it has to be on point. No partying for the weekend. Make it as best as you can.
