If the director wished to make his audience feel bad then he had sucsex.
I have no questions to raise, since the frames pretty much speak for themselves.
(The other day I watched 'Melancholia' by Lars von Trier, a director who similarly walks the path of pain.)
When watching these types of film and I squeeze my eyes tight together it looks exactly like a film I would not watch twice..
It leaves that effect, maybe because it looked tragedily real, the acting and the camera styling - that in itself is a cadeau to 'James'.

Thank you CreativeSoul. Our intent on making this film was to take a real life experience and re-tell the story with as much truth & realism as possible. It was a difficult task to do for everyone involved.

we didn't set out to make a film that would necessarily connect with everyone, my personal take was to do something that connected with someone who might have gone through something close to what "James" experience. It happens more so than you think and because of it being a "guy" thing it is something that isn't if rarely ever spoken about. I guess you can say i wanted it to the speak for all of those silent victims out there. if that makes any since.

as for the question sent to us, regarding which camera and audio gear we used.

we used the canon eos 5d and the sound was captured using the zoom h4n. While working with Jimmy 6 on the editing matching the audio files with the video images was probably the most difficult in post production. That and having to choose which takes were to be used in the cut.

as for the other question sent to us..

How was Ethan chosen to play the part of James..

Ethan and i worked on a film, "Taboo Snafu" together prior to this. Funny thing is when we had our 1st preproduction meeting for that film, i walked into the room and there he was sitting at his table reading his lines and the first thought that came to me when i saw him was "who is that guy?" and right after my gut feeling told me "James." We became friends on the set and during a lunch break we started talking about "James" which i had just started pre-production. He was really into the idea and over a few weeks we talked a lot about "James."

we did a couple of short films during pre-production, "246" and "Poker Face", just so i could see how we would worked together, with me directing him. "246" went on to become one of the favorite at the blockhead festival.

At some point i realized i that he only person who could play "James." I didn't even audition him for it. I guess you could say the part was ment for him.

He also help inspire the song "James" by HRH Gregory Alive during the closing credits.

WOW.......short but very intense.

JAMES - very sad. He's without Hope. Without a safe place of release. You can see it on his body and then of course at the end.

I thought it was interesting when He started saying "this is not happening" over and over out loud, in the "moment" of his nightmare of real time. I felt it was a window into his subconceince within that was spoken out loud for us to hear.

The mind is so powerful and has an amazing way of protecting itself in moments of abuse and tragety. Its like that saying of 'Surrealness' we all can relate to because in this life we all will go through forms of Shock and tragety that will rock our world as we know it. But what does one do to cope afterwards?

Especially a child.....the younger the child i beleive the most damage done. The foundation has been taken. How does it form who u are and our skewed veiw of self and interpretation of life which effects us all because how we interpret it touches our sphere of influence .

our bubble which intern affects us all!!! This circle of what we call life. Theres nothing new under the sun and so we all continue to go round and round.....like the earth goes....and where we STOP.....nobody "knows"!

Because silence is what the abused carry. "this is not happening nor ever happended....remember????????"

HOPE.

.You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book. Psalm 56:8

Isaiah 61

The Year of the LORD’s Favor

1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a]
2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the LORD
for the display of his splendor.

Thank you joyfantastica for your comments on "James."

The part you mention "this is not happening" was done exactly for the reasons you talked about, which is why we have the scene that follows shortly after as a detachment to what is actually happening to James in real time. In his mind he goes to that place of sancuary for him. The out of body experience he goes through at the opening of that scene, which you see him hovering over himself in the tub. He goes to that place, in this case a place that happens 24 hours before. If that makes any sense at all.

again thank you for taking the time to view and comment on this project.

Thank you DreamFirstBorn, Jew for the reply and also for the film. It was a very brave film to make.
I don't know what's worse to watch it as a person having had this incestious experience in it's own life or as a person who couldn't be further away from such an experience....either way it's a fact, as horrid as ever, that these things occurs. Yes your right, father/boy sexual violation is not as common as other familiar constallations.
What really kept me from vomitting was the JESUS sign on the wall...for me it added something very positive, perhaps it was my LOVE for this BLESSED name.

I know it's a no budget project just for fun, but I do not like anything about it but the look of the Eos 5D. I think the images looks great.

The dialog and the premise is almost ugly camp in a bad way.

Even for a no budget film just for kicks, If a film had game, I could let a lot slide. That the film is an earnest attempt is what makes it uncomfortable to watch.

I know you had to make due with what you had, and the handheld tracking shots are great. Again the Eos 5D is impressive.

I don't know what else to say other than I think it's just awful. It's an earnest attempt with no style, wit or charm. These are things that are supposed to make up for the lack of budget.

Some of the acting is ok. The girl's performance is natural. The blowjob kid not so much.

I hope this does in no way come off as personal, this is just about the film itself.

not taking it personal at all. We all have opinions that may or may not differ from others. We knew going into it that James was not ment for everyone. Still we put alot of time and effort into producing this piece, because it was a personal story that we felt had to be told.

Again thanks for taking the time to view it and also to make comments on it as well.
