http://soundclick.com/sha...id=9785971

Basically rerecorded it on a rich August Forster Grand Piano, and slapped a nice hall verb on it.

No click, new vox.

Mixed with an Alan Smart compressor to get the SSL feel

The breaths and the F's get on my nerves a bit, but I like rawness, and don't wanna process the vox too much

I'm thinkin about replacing the software cello with real one, I think its a little too rigid, maybe its me tho.

here are the lyrics...

Design

Verse 1

Hanging all alone on the gossamer thread

waiting for the fall...

find your self in empty room

with voices spilt on the walls

I can't find you

cause your already gone

left your suitcase, should've known

wasn't your design

Verse 2

Vibrations through halls, hear the caterwaul

tearing through the night

Sweet wisteria hangs round my neck

My heart tangled in the vines

On the floor, my lungs are filled with sick

Your dresser drawer filled with emptiness

Left me dying here in yesterday

Why did you go away?

Was it your design?

Bridge A

Oh..

Here I am again

all alone in this bed

with the walls coming down

Oh...

There's so many of us around

always waiting to be found

in this world full of voices

Bridge B

And this empty suitcase keeps stringing me along

should I go down to memphis to find you

Or should I spend my days here on second avenue

In this faceless crowd of fools

In this faceless crowd of fools

Ohhh

Your Design...

Verse 3

Hanging all alone on the gossamer thread

waiting for the fall...

High on the cliffs of oblivion

Slowly, slipping off

Dust the cobwebs off this stolen morning

It's time to wake from this story

It's time to wake from this story

to my ears, the vocals need a bit of tuning in parts(i know you said you like it raw but my ears hear bad notes), the cello sounds a bit high/thin, with no body to it and slightly keyboard midi. the snare sounds very dry and doesn't fit to me without some work on it. i don't know what you mean about the f's. the song is ok and progresses, and the singer has a distinctive voice but seems to try too hard on every line, maybe think to build, in terms of tension/stress on the notes/lyrics.

Give me an idea of where, I don't really wanna melodyne it, but I will if I have to.

Yeah the cello, I've tried giving it mid, but it keeps battling with the guitar and the vox,

I personally don't like the sample, so I think I'm just going to op to record it live.

You think it sounds oversung? where the bridge? Cause thats where I hear it.

Good idea about the snare, I was just listening to it with headphones, and the snare did sound a bit plastic,

The drums I kinda summed together, rather quickly with rough mixing.

Makes me want to remix them and edit them.

thnx for the comments!

I'm not a critic, so I'll just say I enjoyed it.......honestly, I don't hear any bad notes.

It's a lovely song.....but you really do need to get over to Memphis!

I don't hear any bad notes either, but I'm pretty sure there are a few "Blue" notes here or there...

I don't have perfect pitch, so I tend to be oblivious to non extreme pitchiness. I'm also acustomed to listening to classic country and folk, where its customary to go out of tune.

HOWEVER!

in this day and age, if its not pitch perfect, its not considered professional.

which sucks, but whatever.

Songs old, I'm no longer going to "memphis"

to quote BB king, "The Thrill is Gone"

hehe thx for posting, as always biggrin

Btw we should catch up.

That sounds pretty sweet! If I had to nitpick I'd say I didn't like the cymbals when the drums weren't playing. But overall it's quite nice

there are parts that are slightly flat/sharp (which you may call bluenotes) for example at

2:36 sounds slightly flat,
3:50 slightly sharp.

but these are only small points which may bother you, but i noticed them while listening.

if youre using melodyne then its easy to fix these without noticing any editing has been done at all.

thanks man You're a life saver.

Yeah I only use melodyne, because I think with autotune the integrity of the performance can get compromised.

I'll remix tommorow if I have time, post up an update, see what yall think,

thanks for the great comments everyone cool
