Fenwick

My first official CD

Hello fellow Orgers. I'd like to officially announce the release of my band's CD. Our band's name is Rug and the CD title is Communicato.

I have been writing and recording songs for the better part of the past 20 years, and finally decided the time had come to put my best foot forward. This album has been a real labor of love, taking almost two and a half years to create. And I could not be happier with the results.

I would describe our music as a mixture of pop rock/adult contemporary and alternative with a lot of different soulful flavor thrown into the mix. I have been influenced by everyone from Motown to Willie Nelson, and you can hear all of those influences in many of these songs. Our band has a full sound containing bass/drums/guitars/keys and vocals. What gives our sound an additional edge is we hired some of the best horn players on the planet to accompany us on five of the tracks. Our horn section contains players who have arranged charts for and played with the likes of Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, James Brown, David Byrne and They Might Be Giants.

This album is truly made to be listened to as just that, a complete album. In this day of the individual download, our band's sound doesn't really fit into the category of "single" releases. While we aim to make our music as accessible and user friendly as possible, we still try to create music that is fresh with new ideas. These are definitely the type of songs that are aimed at folks who like to sit down and really listen to/absorb music. There are elements of jazz/funk/soul/pop/country strewn throughout the record.

Our web site is www.Rugmusic.com. There are short snippets of each song for you to have a quick listen. If you like what you hear, there are additional links to download the complete album if that is your preference. There are also e-mail links to purchase the CD from the artist directly.

Our web site states that additional links will be forthcoming to CD Baby/Amazon and I Tunes. CD Baby is up and running, Amazon and I Tunes are close behind.

As these songs are not necessarily going to be easy to grasp by listening to 30 to 45 second clips, if you are still not exactly sure but would like to hear more, please feel free to Orgnote me your e-mail address and your preferred genre of music. I will send you a complete sample of one of our tunes for free.

Thank you for taking the time to read this note. If you have any questions at all please feel free to post them here, Orgnote me or e-mail from our web site. I appreciate any support my fellow Orgers can offer and look forward to discussing my music with any and all takers.

If you decide to buy the album, please come back and leave feedback. I'd love to get these songs heard by as many people as possible.

Cheers

Fenwick

If you have eclectic musical tastes and like to support new artists, checking out this new CD would probably be a good start to your day.

I had the opportunity to review the album before I knew the band's name or the title of the project. Keep in mind that I'm just a music lover and have never claimed to be anything but.

Fenwick is a damn cool guy and I want to thank him for letting me in on this set. If the songs here are not your cup of tea, certainly you know someone who would probably feel these works. Hip your friends to this project and help a fellow orger live the dream.

Untitled A Review - By squirrelgrease

I would never try to decipher the meaning of an artist’s lyrics until I become more acquainted with their work. In the case of Untitled, this need be the case, as I have no idea what the lyricist has in mind. That’s not to say I don’t get the gist of the stories being told, I just know there is most likely some very personal connection that the writer has with his lyrics. So my review will be based on the feelings I get from the music and vocal delivery. It was indeed an honor to be chosen as one of the first to give an opinion on this set of songs. The following review was conducted over several days of playing the album as background music and two days of sitting down and absorbing the songs with pen and pad in hand.

Underground
Very cool intro. On first listen, I had a tendency to think that the vocals are sung by a non-native English speaker, as it almost sounds like the song is being sung phonetically. If this were a demo, I would suggest that the vocal parts be laid down again with a less purposeful intent and bring a more impassioned delivery to the lyrics. That said, as the album progresses, the vocal factor becomes an endearing quality and certainly doesn’t hide the fact that there are well polished gems on this album and this song is no exception. Musically, Underground has wonderful percussion and a very nice melody. I find new things to dig on each listen. This for me seems to be a trend on all of these tracks.

Ground Control
The “march into battle” snare introduction is great. But it certainly didn’t prepare me for the pop angle of this song. Neat change-up. The keyboard swell leading into the excellent lyrical and melodic structure makes Ground Control a very necessary repeated listen. The addition of the trombone(?) section is fucking genius. I love it!

Getaway
Super pretty melody from beginning to end – probably my favorite lyrics of the bunch. Love… love the background vox. I think Underground could have benefitted from these backing vocals as well. This song is killer.

Somebody’s Machine
Yes! The jazzy/funk vibe got my toes tapping. The organ and guitar fills really add to the overall melting-pot feel of this track.

New Designs
New Designs flows perfectly from Somebody’s machine. This song could be the sleeper of the album. I think everyone will enjoy it immensely, but few will bring it up. If that doesn’t make sense – think of any popular album and that one song that gets no recognition, but if it was removed from the record, folks would cry fowl. I love it. Perfect ending, too.

Going Down
Another funky one. This is the one song so far that I believe the vocal melody and especially the delivery, is as integral to the sound as any of the instruments. Tasty indeed.

Play It Out
I really love this song. The lyrics and pop melody work terrific together. It has that “10,000 Maniacs” feel to it. If I were king of the forest and in the interest of best-foot-forward, this song would be the lead-off track on the album, no doubt. It would also be marketed as some kind of single – whatever that means these days. Short and definitely sweet.

Travel Song
The back-porch instrumentation and understated delivery of the vocals make this a favorite of mine. Excellent song writing on this cut. Travel Song is absolutely going to be on my iPod. Stellar song with lot’s of feeling – I would place this second after Play It Out on the album configuration.

Cellular
Another very pretty tune. I’m a sucker for a ride cymbal. Yet another favorite from this collection of songs. The vocals are delivered with passion and it’s really nice to see. This track seems musically understated, but complex at the same time. Cellular wouldn’t be out of place as track 3.

Amortization
Shuffling along at a nice pace with horn fills and background/co-vocals in just the right places, this is a song with some very nice element. The change-up near the end caught me off guard, but added some extra interest. I love the guitar in this part of the song.

Evolution
Cool. I like it. The song pops along quite nicely and then we get this dissonant section that comes out of nowhere. Not an unprecedented idea in pop music and it works here. Perfect song to round out the album, especially with the “I will say goodnight” lyric.

Should have been a hidden track...

Ode To Joe The Duck
lol I love it. These guys had fun in the studio. Make Fenwick give you this song when you order your copy!

I also was lucky enough to get in hearing this album early and I love it!! That is saying a lot for me because I hate pretty much everything. lol

Squirrel gave an excellent review of each track so I won't attempt to do that but I will say Amourtization is my favorite track off this album. I'll be ordering it tonight. biggrin

i too was lucky enough to get to hear it pre-release, and i like it.

the vibe is very reminiscint of austin's music scene: roadhouse, pop, country, jazz, and funk all blended together in very interesting ways.

the interesting thing about the album is how much it grows on me more with each listen. i have been putting off reviewing it, as each time i listen to it, i have a different experience.

i would certainly recommend it, and if i were in the band, i would certainly be proud of the album.

Thank you all so much for your kinds words and well wishes.

At the request of some and recommendation of others, I'm putting up access to a free download for a full song. Many have said it is hard to get the vibe from the 30 second sound clips.

This song is called Somebody's Machine and it's a pretty funky number with a jazzy intro. As with most songs of this nature, it usually takes a few listens before it begins to sink in. If you like what you hear, please feel free to add comments and/or ask about how you can hear more.

Thanks again

Hey folks

We just completed a great hour long Paisley radio show talking about Prince's music and playing a few of our band's songs.

I thought it would be appropriate to post the link to the radio show and give some folks a chance to hear more about the band.

Hey my friend

Thank you very much. We spent nearly three years making this album and are really trying to spread the word. I think we're going to make a video or two this summer to get more exposure.

Thanks again for your comments/support. I really appreciate it.
