Hey Lewis, they listen to the best. What are we compared to him? wink But it would be cool if they listened to something new. I like seeing what other musicians are working on and what they can create. It inspires me. I also enjoy going to the clubs and checking out some of the local bands. Maybe not everyone here is interested in those of us who haven't quite made it or aren't talked about yet? Think about this: Would Eminem's songs have as much appeal if they were sung/rapped by another? Not this year anyhow. I was going to say more, but I'll leave it at that for now.

Well, I think if they were creative people, they wouldn't be so bitchy about it. What's the big deal? I think a forum for other kinds of artists would be great, one for painters, graphic designers, etc.

Hopefully being a Prince fan means you really appreciate and respect creativity in all forms. Unfortunately, there are people on this site that like to be negative and talk shit (EVEN ABOUT PRINCE'S MUSIC, shhheeesh!) and that must be their form of creativity.

Kinda like the movie and music critics in magazines and newspapers. They really aren't offering objective comentary on art, they are mostly trying to be witty while at the same time putting something down that they could not ever attempt to compete with.

DAMN! Where did that come from? omg

It only makes sense that Prince's biggest fansite would have a musician's forum, right? He is the ULTIMATE musician, right? The strange thing is that it took this long before this forum was formed. I'm surprised there aren't more people taking part in this. Maybe in time? I guess I mistakenly thought that most Prince fans/fams were artists of one type or another. confuse

My thoughts.

Musicians, artists and every person in a creative field need to have a thick skin. Period.

If, as an artist, you can't take criticism, stay indoors and don't expose yourself to anyone.

When I hear (or read) people discussing (or bashing) an artists work I just consider the source.

1) Does the person have any experience in the art form?
2) Why care if the person is just another sheep looking for the flavor of the week?
3) When whoever has an opinion can do better, then I might listen/care but until then...

I'm looking forward to putting my stuff on for everyone here because I know there's a selct few musical greats that I would value an opinion from.

I don't care what they think. I think whoever whines around about us having our own forum are just upset that they can't spread their poor behavior into our forum. This forum is for org musicians, and even poets and writers, if they choose to participate. If you don't like a forum, don't choose to participate. Lately, this musicians forum has been my sanctuary away from the idiots on the org, and I haven't been participating as much in the general discussion forum. This forum is good for anyone who wants to get away from the nonsense, when you want to get away from the nonsense. There are not many forums on this org that can say that.

then they're talkin' loud and ain't sayin' nothin'! BTW I do

This is an outside opinion, but since you brought it up, this forum appears to be a place for only about two of you to constantly promote your web sites. Look how many threads there are in this section and look who started most of them. It's just one big advert. I love hearing new stuff from people, but if there isn't going to be involvement from more musicians, I don't really see why this forum exists even.
You also have to consdier how critical people are of Prince even and this site is for him. Don't expect that they will bash Prince and embrace you, it's just not likely to happen.
I don't mean for any of this to sound harsh, I'm just replying to your topic.

I don't want to promote my website. I never have. Check my posts. Actually, I just like people to listen to and share my music, and to spread and share a positive message of Love and revolution.

I can understand people taking offence if I was selling something but Im not. All I am posting is the chance to listen to something I have created for free. I only post once about a song & I really appreciate the constructive critisism of other orgers. Orgers all have something in common, they know good music & I would rather know what they think instead of a bunch of musically illiterate monkeys. Plus now we have our new forum I can get opinions from musicians who know music. Its really helped my playing & songwritting.

The underlying factor though is that people do what they want on the org. Why should that be different for me because I own a website?

Here's a little perspective. Lets say there are 50 people on the org who complain all the time about our musical accomplishments. (I really don't think there are that many though). I read on another thread that somewhere around or over 7000 visit this site.

If you look at those numbers, it's only .007% of the people that come here that are complaining. So who cares? Besides, that's why we got this forum, so we can keep to ourselves boxed and avoid the BS on the rest of the site! nana

hey!

i would like to know<
1. when u perform, or try for the record deal;
how do you know that what u have is the "best" and you can't improve any further?!

2.when u use insturments for your compositions,
why do u guys stay with the basics? you know, guitar, drums. why not learn those and learn how to use foreign insturments that are used by different cultres, religions, etc.
( i would try and use insturments found in villages for richer, more cultural sounds. i would use: Rajistani.)

also, when u put up midi files (w/o vocals), why not instead use precussions like simple sounding drums you can beat using your hands. and flute? no guitar, etc.

i heard a midi with the type of insturments that u use, and it was ok experience. when those insturments were replaced with a flute and other hollow- sounding insturments, all the emotions of the songs were easy to understand and hear and it sound sooo beautiful>

This stage never comes mate. Thats what music is about, always learning. Take my drum teacher, hes 80 now & still learning.

I play saxophone & will be using it soon when I have a decent studio to record it. Thing is that Drums Bass & Guitar are the main instruments of pop music, you wont get a record deal playing the sitar for example (unfortunatly).

a midi file is not a name for music without vocals. Its a form of music that uses your computers internal sounds instead of recorded ones. I play congas & most kinds of percussion as drums is my first instrument. I teach djembe now. Its more a question of owning these instruments to record with. You wont hear a 12 string guitar on my music for example, because I dont own one. If your a guitarist you wont usually be able to play flute or own a flute.

You have to remember that all the musicians here use very limited recording equipment (me especially) & so theres only so much you can do. We cant make sounds like Micheal Jackson & Prince because we dont have $2000 to spend on a studio like that.

Hope that helps wink

Suby-
Great questions!
I've never really been into MIDI based percussion and can't record with it. Just congos and a 74' Ludwig kit.

World instruments and expermenting with different sounds is what being a musician is all about.

No guitars?!? Are U nutz?
