Check out my new recording!

Hello Everyone,

I joined the org a few months ago, but I've mainly just been reading the topics. Recently, I have been posting more and am growing out of my shyness. I really love the support and feedback that a lot of you give to each other. A musician's life is not always an easy one. This is a wonderful online community.

I am a singer, songwriter, and piano-player out of Nashville, TN. I was wondering if any of you could check out the new recording I just posted on my myspace page. It's currently the only one on my player, and it's called "Up To You". Any thoughts or feedback that you could share would be greatly appreciated.

Please go to www.myspace.com/gordonroque to hear it.

By the way, if there are other musicians here from the Nashville area, shoot me an orgnote!

Thanks! biggrin

I can tell you're influenced by Fiona Apple. Your song reminds me of Never is a Promise from her first CD.

It's a nice song and you have a nice deep full voice. Are you going to produce it more? It would sound really full if you added more instruments. I think with just the piano, I keep hearing other instruments. If not, I would switch to a more traditional piano sound and leave out the keyboard. This is just my humble opinion.

thanks for the feedback LQ. I agree completely with you that it would sound fuller with more instruments. The best I could do at the time was just piano and flute. The piano in that recording is actually a real one--an old console piano that I own. The flute sound is actually from a synthesizer--a software plug-in that sounded very real. This recording was done on a very low budget, but hopefully soon, it will be updated with more instruments. We could have used more synthesized instruments, but I wanted it to sound as real and warm as possible. I'm a newbie at recording, but I'm learning more as I continue to do it. If anyone has suggestions for other instruments to use on this song let me know. biggrin

Thanks. She is a very big influence of mine. I'm never sure if I should ever be compared to her. She's brilliant. I'll humbly take this as a compliment. It's funny that you should mention this. Never Is A Promise is my favorite song from her. I used to perform it live, but now I only play/sing it privately for my own enjoyment. It's a sweet, sad song.

Well, I just moved here in June 2006. So far, Nashville's been great. There are a ton of musicians out here (everywhere!), and there's a thriving nightlife and music scene in the downtown area. There is a lot of country music, but to my relief, there's also a lot of everything else--folk, jazz, blues, classical, rock, alternative, etc.

It's a pretty cool place.
