The Muse

Would love to know what your personal experiences with Muses are, if any. This came up recently in another thread.

My experience has always been that they show when they want and they leave the same way. Not much you can really do about it but see it for the treat that it is.

What percentage of the work you do is done with a muse?

Do you need a muse to work?

Have you never had a muse?

Can you pick a muse or does it find you?

What is a muse to you?

Is your muse always a person?

Does your muse come in a bottle?

Answer any. Curious about this one.

Thought there would be volumes of muse experiences.
Maybe it really is about discipline and inspiration and the occasional muse...

if you're fortunate.

Answer your own questions so I get an idea of what a muse is to you...it's really relative.

That's fair.

What percentage of the work you do is done with a muse?
Maybe 5%

Do you need a muse to work?
Fortunately no. But its nice to have one.

Can you pick a muse or does it find you?
Perhaps this is the question I'm most curious about. For me, they just show up. I've been thinking about this lately because the last was so fleeting...and I knew it would be so I rushed thru what it was they inspired & didn't finish (That was a first). This may be the down side to the muse, (at least for me) that they in some ways dictate. Still, that's an interesting change.

What is a muse to you?
Like amped inspiration maybe. But more.
There are things that inspire. That happens all the time. Things and people etc... But the muse almost overrides discipline. When its gone, it's gone.

Is your muse always a person?
Yes. Thought it's not a sex/sexual thing (quite a few were gay) they have always been the opposite sex.

Does your muse come in a bottle?
No. I'm sure that's a good thing 'cause I'd probably have a bunch of empty muses under the bed right now.

I guess what I'm most curious about is the possibility of finding a muse, like if I went looking. I doubt it, but I'd like to know if any of you have ever sought and found yours.

O.K. I get this now.

My muse is life and the beautiful people I encounter in it. It's also anything I feel strongly about.

Women have moved me to write my best stuff. Either the chase, the obsession with what I can't have or the love that I'm sharing.

Sad events in my life have also been somewhat of a "blues muse" (great band name).

weed has produced some soundscape stuff but that's a part of my DNA by now lol.

The bottle just makes me a sloppy mess and makes my mind slow and depressed, not a good muse.

What percentage of the work you do is done with a muse?
20% with above mentioned muses. The rest is hard work lol

Do you need a muse to work?
No, but it makes things flow like I'm not even trying. It's like someone else is writing for me.

Have you never had a muse?
To me, getting my mind into a place where all my senses are wrapped up with the person/place/memory most of my stuff comes from inspiration of some kind. This includes some people around the Org. (I wrote a Psykosoul jam because the cat is just inspiration in everything he writes.)

Can you pick a muse or does it find you?
Again, it's all around me at all times, I just have to change my perspective to feel it.

What is a muse to you?
I've answered this in abundance.

Is your muse always a person?
Most of the time but events get me too.

Does your muse come in a bottle?
weed more than a bottle.

So what's the difference, for you, between inspiration and "the muse" or is there none. Inspiration is everywhere, I agree. But isn't the muse a little different?

Yes, they are 2 different things. Inspiration is what gets me out of bed everyday and makes me walk the talk, see something through or work out a piece of music that I'm stuggling with. A Muse is more specific like a person, event or an emotion that is only in the picture for a short amount of time. Sometimes a person is in my life for an extended amount of time and inspire me daily.

Then again, maybe it's just me. lol

No. That's what I meant.

To bad they don't have

for the fleeting Muses...to make them last longer.

Hey, you're cool. Where do you keep your musical creations?

The muse beats me on the head constantly.

Unfortunately, most of the time I have nothing to capture the brilliance that's dropped on me. I sometimes have a hand-held recorder, but oftentimes, I'm left with a wow feeling, but two hours later, I am clueless.

Thanks for that question. Realizing that the muses I spoke of were for things of a visual nature. Now I have to rethink this all. It may be that different mediums have different types of muses.

Not saying that I have music but if I did, what do you mean "where do I keep the creations?"

Maybe that's why it's beating you. It must be thinking "This Beau guy knows that I'll becoming around to share brilliance, yet he doesn't care enough to be prepared."

In this age of technology, there's no excuse to not be prepared 24/7.
If your inspired by something visual you can take a pic with your cell. And if it's Palm platform, you can put down tracks on the run.

It's a small app but the point is that there's no excuse. All your emergency needs can be handled with a basic handheld.

Next time your muse comes around to beat you...snap a pic of that. I'll pay you a dollar for it. Maybe two.

People around here use myspace or soundclick.com to post their art/music for others to check out. So this is what I mean, where can I find yours? If you don't anything online, that's fine too, I was just asking.

Before you ask, I have stuff but it's all rough and being worked on by my band and it's too rough to show around these parts. lol

Well, myspace rejected my stuff...said it doesn't qualify as music.

Yeah - I seem to have the same problem, except it happens at bars.

Where the hell have you been?

I just have a visual of the bar saying, "I'm sorry, that song has been rejected" and then some drunk guy screams, "FREEBIRD!"

falloff

So use yousendit.com and upload a song so I can be the judge as to wether it's music or not.

Did you use to have another name around here? I only ask because I was talking to this guy from Sweden (or was it Finland?) who did this industrial-goth-could-be-a-soundtrack-to-the-next-Saw-movie type of thing. While it didn't make me want to go out and shake my money maker, it was a form of music.

No that didn't work either. They said "we don't care who yousendit to but you can't send it thru us"...and then they told me to never come back. same as MySpace.

And no. Anon is it.
