Lol, my song definitely needs a mastering job! It's way too low!

Didn't you want to do something, Kelly? You can barely listen to it without adjusting the volume... lol

I did. It's just inbetween two songs that have their levels way up. Really, it sounds fine on my system.

FIrst, thank you for including my song on here!!! I feel honored. I submitted it only 1/2 seriously, cuz this is something my friend and I did back in college in the 80s.....

And while I'm proud of the music which I wrote and played myself, the vocals were done as joke (we're like talking through it)...

And this version is from a crappy cassette we made by holding a mic in the air, playing a tape of the music from my synth, holding the speaker in one hand etc. I'm amazed at how "good" you made it sound! smile

Not sure what you mean about is it Midi-Music..... the music is just a few tracks I played into a synth which had an onboard sequencer so I could play back all the tracks at once, and I programmed a custom drum pattern on a drum machine.

The sad thing is, I used to have an extended version of it with a bass solo and a "gimme some horns" funky section but that cassette went into a black whole and I never got around to re-doing it.

Thanks again!

I dig it. It's got that whole early 80's "prince bootleg" vibe to it. We all know those are our personal favorites. I thought it fit in with this collection perfectly. THANKS!

Thanks smile. I forgot to also add the lyrics are "inspired by true events" i.e. the sexual obsession/conquest of one of the co-writers, which I guess makes it even more Prince like! smile

Still listening to all the other tracks...and very impresses with everyone's work!!

Someone said this is the best album since the gold experience... But u shouldnt call yourself a prince fan if u come out with comments like that.

ive listened to the album and seen the project. It is an awesome project.

However, Prince is an artist and I am a prince fan because he chooses to express himself as he pleases, and doesnt contrain himself, he is always after something different. Thats why i like him.

It would seem some of you dont like him because of that.
None of these tracks compare or omce close to his lastest release (Hurricane relief track).

And there was plenty of funk in the extended jam.

These sounds to me, on this project, are a little boring. I have heard them all before and I think the "Artist formally known as ?" who did a spate of prince like copycat 80's funk sound, did a better job.

His voice and music sounded so close to prince, ive seen mp3's label the songs as prince bootlegs! it was not prince.

I am fascinated how some of you just dont give cred where it's due. Thank goodness prince doesnt make music like this any more and he has moved on/evolved.

Its a great project as it is, and a great effort, but some of the comments on this thread are worrying to say the least..

Prince has never completely left out the mineapolis sound anyway..

1+1+1=3?? I do wonder about some of u sometimes! I think ppl are getting carried away in here!

Not knockin the project, just the comments...

Asses and opinions. Don't ya hate that we all have them stoned

Personally, I prefer Prince's 80's sound to anything else he's done, and this is why I love the Deep Purple Jam. You're the man/woman Psykosoul.

I think you are missing the point of the project. This was/is a FREE GIFT for the fans, by the fans in an effort to tide us over till the next Prince release.

It's all in fun. All written and recorded out of home/basement studios, and in some cases a tape deck all over the world just for kicks. This really should not be compared to Prince's studio recordings at all nor was it meant to.

Thus the title: "Quest for the Minneapolis Sound".

well said Kelly! We don't believe we are Prince nor can we eclipse anything he has ever done. Even in his early stages. Prince is an accomplished musician and an ultra-rare songwriter/visionary. We are a bunch of artists that love his music and try very hard to come close. Don't hate if people want to encourage us to try harder.

Big woot! to Tal for coming up with the idea in the first place.
Big woot! to Kelly/NFO for executing it and webspace, etc.
Props and respect to all the musicians who participated.
Thanks to everyone who's listening.

Props to all who contributed!

ok.. but prince does revert to 80's sounds from time to time.. i think 1+1+1=3 is a very 80's funk sounding track, for example.

personally there is not an album i wish prince hadnt released, because they put eachother into perspective, and complete the picture - his life, through is music, and where prince is at musically etc..

however, yes, fantastic project and great effort and gift and I'm thankfl and grateful.

I have to admit, I cant make this kind of music. so there u go. i just thought "best album since the gold experience" is a comment that misses the point about PRINCE.
