John P presents "Rose City Demos"...debut collection of song sketches, independently produced (FINAL VERSIONS UPDATED)

Okay, gratuitious promotion here folks!

It's just 9 tracks and a lot of them are instrumentals (influenced by Bowie's "Low" in that regard), but I think it makes up the best of my material that has been recorded. There are hundreds of songs I wish I could have put on there, but these are a selection of the best I've recorded so far.

Track listing is as follows (you may recognise some of the tracks, but all of them are new or have been tinkered with in some way):

1. The Cool and the Cold (intro)

John P - piano and vocals.

/Let Me Down Easy

John P - piano, guitar, vocals
Gus Paine - bass
Doug Kelly - drums

4. Try To Stop The Girl

John P - vocals, electric guitars, clavinova harpsichord and piano, tambourine samples, drum samples, bass, all other samples

6. Music Television Theme

John P - clavinova piano, guitars, drum sample programming

5. Blue Sky Blues

John P - synthesizer, electric guitar, guitar-bass, drum programming, vocals

3. Peace In Time

John P - vocals, acoustic guitar, wind sample

7. Rose City (instrumental)

John P - synthesizer, synth bass, programming, drum programming, electric guitar

8. Lover Man (instrumental)

John P - alto saxophone & piano

9. It's Over (instrumental outro)

John P - acoustic guitar, piano, synth bass, glockenspiel, alto saxophone, drums

Please listen to the tracks at soundclick here:

http://www.soundclick.com...pmusic.htm

and please, leave any comments you have on this thread!

I promise each of you who are musicians that I will listen to and comment on your material in return as and when you put it up. Just orgnote me the thread.

All music listed above is copyright John P Music, 2005.

Please note the quality of the songs is better on CD than what I have at soundclick. If you like the music enough to want a CD, just let me know.

beer

Cheers!

Wow, great effort! You really know how to play your instruments! biggrin

The intro is very atmospheric sounding (a little bit Tori Amos alike). I hear also some Vocals resembling the Beatles. The Prince influence becomes more evident in the instrumentals you put on the album ("Rose City").

The only thing I'm not so sure about is the overall flow of the album. I wouldn't do two instrumentals in a row for example.

thanks mate. smile

As I said, I'm influenced by the flow of Bowie's Berlin albums, particularly "Low"....so I think there is a market out there for putting two instrumentals together at a time.

Just MHO.

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate them.

"Let Me Down Easy" is fantastic! The song is very Lennon-esque, and I can feel John's spirit on this song. Excellent job! I like the electro feel of "Rose City".

Nice work!

Yo, I dunno why more people are not responding. But as a fellow musician I must! This is the stuff I am looking for! This is what is needed in this day of recycled musical garbage! Man, what a relief! Is there a way you can send me the whole cd including insert? I listened to every song 3 times to get the emphasis of each one. The music is timeless and all your own! I really don't get why many ORG musicians don't compliment or respond to hard earned material. We "all" need the support to give us the mental boost to continue on in our tedious goals to be successful at this thing! I listen to all things man, and I definately put your soundclick page in my "favorites"!

Beautiful stuff. you've really got a vulnerability to your voice and there is an honesty to the tracks

youve got lots of styles and sounds here. my favourite is Try To Stop the Girl, and it is very Beck.

the low influence you mention has validity as you use a lot of sax and dreamy motifs and instrumentation. the b side to low has lots of analog keyboards and ambience. low's a and b sides are quite different to me. you're stuff is very busy melodically (eg Portland Blue Sky Blues, Let Me Down Easy) and builds up and changes quicker than low, if i remember right.

lots of feel and great playing on 'lover man'.
rose city has a great feel and sound but the guitar jams too much for me.
is that sound supposed to happen at the end of 'the Cool and the Cold'?

I think you shouldn't change anything, because you cearly stated what you want. It's all good!

After such a wonderful introduction the instrumentals make you want to hear your voice again, that's what I had a problem with.

John P. I listened to a couple of your tracks other night and enjoyed them. Nice stuff, lots of space and clever melody. I'll listen to some more soon. You have a unique style which demands total focus to listen. Congratulations on your work.

This is great stuff. I love the live feel production. Let me down easy was my favorite. The flow and Beetlesc chord changes were smoken.... pimp2
