MAC Users and the Musicology Store (the how to's)

Need Help?
* Download this file 1st

If that file does not work, or if u need more help, read these:

System Requirements:

* Operating System You Must Have OS X! These files will not work on OS 9 or earlier.

* Internet browser - Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or newer. Note: If you browse the site with Netscape all functionality may not work the same. Do not attempt a purchase within AOL's browser. This will not work using Safari either. YOU MUST HAVE IE 5.01 or higher SET AS YOUR DEFAULT BROWSER TO ACCEPT LICENSING! http://www.microsoft.com/...ysreq=True

* Windows Media Player 9.0 or newer. Note: Windows Media Player version 9.0 or newer is compatible with the DRM encrypted music files NPGMC.com sells. Other players might not be compatible and might not play or burn ur music files. Media Player is a free download. Test ur current player here.

(other stuff)
* Free Hard Disk Space
* Optical Drive - CD or DVD drive
* Sound Card
* Internet connection - High speed highly recommended but not required. Must be online 2 first acquire license.
* Disable any pop-up blockers!
* Speakers, or headphones, or connectivity to home stereo is a plus!

-----

Download Music Player:

All downloads are licensed files in Windows Media 4mat and must be played in Windows Media Player 9.0 or newer.

http://www.microsoft.com/...wnload.asp

-----

License Restrictions:
When u purchase and download music from MUSICOLOGY, ur music files are accompanied by a license with certain restrictions. The music files are encrypted with DRM license technology 2 be sure that they are used according 2 ur license restrictions.

IMPORTANT: Make sure u mean 2 buy ur music from ur primary computer (for example: ur home computer) so that it contains ur primary license. The licenses are non-transferable. Example: U cannot buy ur music on ur home machine and then transfer ur primary license 2 ur second home computer. The computer u buy from becomes the primary computer with the primary license 4 that song. U can only copy music from ur primary machine via your primary license.

Uploading 2 a Shared Web Site Not Permitted
Ur license does not permit ur music files 2 be uploaded on2 a shared server or made available on internet web sites. Although u might be physically able 2 upload the files 2 a shared server, the music files will be rendered useless 2 anyone who downloads them because of the DRM license encryption technology.

Buying a song (s)
1.) Go to: http://www.npgmusicclub.c...index.html
2.) Select a section on the mixing board
3.) Select a purchase package from the sliders. (you can preview by moving the slider upward)
4.) A pop window will open. There you will click on the button "add 2 cart"
5.) Confirmation page. Select Member, or Non-Member checkout
6.) Payment page. Fill out your credit card information and select Member, or Non-Member Purchase.
7.) Confirmation page. Click on the Download button.
8.) New window appears with download inforamation. Hold the control key down and click on the download button. Select "Download to Disk".
9.) Sometimes the downloaded file does not save the long file name. You must rename the file to add the extension .wma at the end of the file name. When you do this, you will see a message "Are you sure you want to add the extension ".wma" to the end of the name?" Here you select "add".
10.) The file should play in Windows Media Player 9 now.

Burning to CD!
First you need something like this: http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijack/

Using this program, you can load the wma files into the program and record them into another format and save the new songs as anything you like as to put them into your i-tunes and/or i-pod.

Number one problem with most MAC users seem to be the browser. It does not seem to work using Safari.

YOU MUST HAVE INTERNET EXPLORER SET AS YOUR DEFAULT BROWSER.

I follow the steps listed above - however, when I try to play the songs I get the following error: Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and file name are correct and try again.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

I do have the same problem and I checked the microsoft info website. There they basically say, if you cannot open the file, verify that the path and file name are correct and try again appears on your screen you won't be able to open the file.

Since yamomma is able to open the files I guess the problem which is occuring has to do with the system sofware. my computer runs 10.3.3, yamomma'a runs an older version. again I am not a computer expert but that is my guess. i cannot believe that I am so close to the music and I cannot access it.

If annybody has some suggestions please let me know.

I'm running 10.3.3 as well. I also have a PC laptop, so I paid another $7.77 and got the music on my other computer, too. I think I'll just have to burn those onto a cd an pop them on to my powerbook.

It would be nice if they would support macs so that people don't have to go to such lengths to get the music.

Well, I've tested with .77c Controversy. Not much luck.

When I open IE, WMP closes and I get the "It appears that u do not have a license 2 play this file. It can be purchased here. " but I click

"NPGMusicClub Site Members Click Here"

I'm then faced with:

"U have been authorized to receive a DRM license 2 play this file.
Before u can play the file, u must close this window by clicking Cancel below. "

Now, I can't see canel. I've tried closing the window then opening WMP, quitting IE then opening WMP. But whenever I open the .wma file either direct from Finder or through "Open", "Open Recent" or "Open URL", it quits itself and the whole cycle keeps happening. Starting again with "it appears u do not have a license"

So, anyone found a way around it? I'm not in anyway angry, afterall it's only AU$1 but I would like to get ready for future songs.

Wish I could be positive here, but I have had no success in downloading Musicology to my eMac OS 10.2.8 with WMP9 using IE 5.2.3

On receiving acceptance page, there is no button to click.

Imagine my disappointment.

Yes -- I had the same issue with there not being a button to click. But, if you just re-open the wma file after you see that window in Explorer, the files play fine. At least they do for me.

WORKS FOR ME TOO...BUT I FOUND I NEEDED TO KEEP THE IE WINDOW OPEN IN ORDER TO PLAY THE FIME USING WM9...AT THAT POINT THE FILE PLAYED BACK. THE WINDOW ITSELF SEEMS TO BE THE LICENSE. AND AS I SPEAK, I'M RIPPING IT WITH AUDIO HIJACK, AND ITS CONVERTING IT TO A FILE I CAN USE ON MY IPOD...THANKS GUYS!!!!

just the pesky issue of it all being illegal. Not just that, but owning the software to do this is illegal. Also the issues of

- having to change your web browser - Microsoft finding a way to force Mac users to keep IE on their hard disk even though they have dropped all future development of IE for the mac.
- not being able to integrate your music with the rest of your music library (well, again, unless you don't mind breaking laws)
- having to buy a $30 program to listen to a $7.77 albums

Can someone who has done this confirm for me that the tracks you get from Audio Hijack end up having to be then edited to get the start and end points correct as it doesn't really tie itself directly to the WM9 player, but rather simply record any sound being played by your mac. Thus if email comes in while you're recording a track, you get that sound effect in your music. Or have they come up with a better solution than that. I haven't looked into it myself since I strongly prefer a legal solution that doesn't involve jumping through hoops to get music to work the way it should. The contrast between the NPGMC experience and iTunes music store is astounding. The general public just isn't going to put up with it unless something is fixed. That, more than anything else, is why I've having this battle at the music club. I could buy the music and get it into my iPod within an hour, but that's not going to help fix the problem in a way that works for people who don't have the technical expertise many of us do.

audio hijack takes the track as is...but adds that fuzz after 10 minutes to make you buy it. i dont mind, i figure i'd need it for any new stuff that comes along, and especially since there seems to be no resolution in sight for mac users. as far as getting emails and having that sound bleed in, i cant say, but just turn all that stuff off when you do the conversion.

Not working for me in Safari or IE 5.2.3 rolleyes

I don't have IE set as my default browser. And I never will. On principle. IE sucks non-standards-compliant ass and the org works a million times better/faster in Safari. Fuck Prince and his fucking downloads. mad

wink

Will wait for the NPGMC to come to their senses (I know, could be waiting for quite a while) and happily listen to Musicology (distributed on a CD. . .how quaint!) in the meantime. music
