Should I join the NPGMC ????

I was a member in Year One, but have not been since. I need to take a poll to see if a $25.00 "donation" is worth it.

Yes or No?

Anxiety

I would say that if gambling $25 isn't going to make or break you, then go ahead and do it. Even though I don't think it was any great mega-value, I don't regret joining this year. I don't feel I'm getting much that non-members can't get, though the "Reflection" track and the free screening were nice perks, and with rumblings about a tour this fall, who knows what kind of initiatives the club will attempt to offer members.

If you can live without stuff like that, don't want to participate in a bulletin board forum moderated by Darth Vader and Tipper Gore, and aren't interested in getting e-mails asking you to give up your belongings "just because"...well, what can I say - twenty five bucks can buy a lot of things still these days...

I would join...i paid $25 3 months ago and got NEWS (hard to find in stores), and went to a DVD screening. If u got $25 to blow, i can think of worse things to spend it on. If you're the type that is gonna expect sumthin exclusive evry week, then don't bother...BUT, if u wanna support an artist trying to do things a little differently, then support the man. Besides, think of all the peeps who will try to join IF he announces a tour.

Hell no. You can get both N.E.W.S and the DVD very easily in MPLS and the only other exclusive item is a so-so song called "Reflection".

The message boards suck and the graphics of the site also suck.

Well I am buying N.E.W.S. and the DVD this week. (I do live in MN)

I already have a copy of reflection.

But from what I hear about the website, I think with my strong views I would probably get kicked out after a couple of days. Alot of people can't handle me on the Org.

I need to hear more from you Orgsters before I can make up my mind...

i'm not a member, but i have hopped on the site (usin a fellow orger's password they let me borrow) and looked around and pushed all the buttons n'doohickeys n'shiny whatchadoozits they got in the npgmc now...flashy graphics and "hidden" chit on a website have never impressed me. that, and the music club is severely lackin on music--the reheated (reflection) room n'all that crap just ain't cuttin the mustard. it's pretty much a $25 dolla purple ant farm, if you ask me. it's got potential for bein better, but it ain't happenin.

in short: no. save your $25 for sumfin that can be put to better use.

John McKay has a book entitled Attitude 101. In it he states that negative attitudes compound exponentially. Don't perceive the negative attitudes you have read as the opinion of the majority. You have already benefitted from the club since you have reflection and if the 25 bucks helps Prince pay the bills at PP and keeps the studio running, then it is a price I will gladly pay. The first two years were incredible if you got a chance to see the show and hear the sound check, I am sure the future of the club will be also.

Personally, I say join! You've got nothing to lose, ultimately, except $25.

Here are my reasons for joining;

a) It's only $25.
b) It's been fun so far, although a lot of the time it's been for the wrong reasons.
c) You do feel like a part of something, even if it's part of the gang that shake their head in disbelief at some of the posts on the U Tell Us forum.
d) The house is fun to move around initially (if you've got a good internet connection). And there's a bit of mixing you can do in the Musicology room.
e) There is music, but most of it is the more obscure, older stuff (which may or may not be good, depending on your opinion) and it's updated about once a week (although not always).
f) So far, we've had first go at NEWS and the live DVD (previews of both products were also available before they were released), but it's only been a matter of a couple of weeks before those items have gone into general retail and some people haven't received their CD/DVDs yet.
g) Right now, by joining, you can buy the Crystal Ball 5-CD set, Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic CD, Days Of Wild CD and The War Cassette in retail - the prices aren't too bad, either.
h) Who knows what will happen before the end of the year?
i) Oh, and did I mention that you'll only be throwing away $25 as a worst case scenario, anyway.

Ah well, just my opinion on the Club this year (My favourite year so far).

No. People are still complaining that the music is not delivered on time, or not at all. Another complaint I've read is the censorship in their message boards-- opinions and complaints getting erased. I haven't joined all this time. I am still waiting for the day that Prince cares and respects his fans. Still waiting for him to offer reliable service. These problems have been going on since 1998 or perhaps before.

I've also thought about joining but it seems like money better spent on better things. Although, it is only .07 a day when you think about it. So far, has there really been anything that is exclusive to the club?

No. Just read most of the forums here and you'll know why. Not worth it. I don't go there anymore.

Personlly I think its a bit of a mixed bag really.

I dont think that $25 is a lot of money to do something related to Prince and to make sure that you have your foot in the door should anything happen.

HOWEVER

$25 for the content we have got this year is a little pricey - on the whole of it all weve had new so far is the Reflection Download and the chnace to buy things.

I wouldnt even say that the chance to buy advance gig tickets (should a tour take place) is a plus for me because, if last year is anything to go by, I wont get them anyway because they lost my membership details when it came time to buy.

In conclusion - Yes $25 is a good price to be involved with Princes project but,if you are looking for value for money then forget it!!!

I totally agree with u. Maybe by the end of the year, we will get something other than ONE exclusive video download. But for now, I would keep my $25. I do have to admit, the site is very cool, but as far as privledges, u won't be getting any.

Don't join this year, there is no benefit. You can't even talk openly over there! Next year might be worth it as there is early speculation that there will be a tour next year. The club is only good for the pre-show and after-show. That's the only f**k I got for my buck last year.
