I think it's great that Prince released this for the club, whether or not it was planned all along or a last minute response to fan comments. I think it shows the beauty of the internet over sending out CDs, that you can get stuff up and out to fans incredibly quickly.

As for those fans that who complain they don't have the equipment to download music, geez, I've got a lowly 56k modem and a service provider which disconnects me after 2 hours, and I managed to download Xpectation alright. It took a bit of time and effort, that's all. The NPGMC is after all an internet based club, so to be on it and on here you MUST have some sort of internet connection.

As for Xpectation, though I appreciate it, it's not my personal cup 'o' tea. It always seems to me that when Prince does pure instrumentals they lack structure compared to his well worked out songs which actually transfer to instrumentals much better. Can you hum an Xpectation tune right now? Probably not, just because it's jazzy doesn't mean you can't have a hook.

Also, he tends to let others take the lead too much, with Vanessa Mae it starts to sound like her track with Prince happening to backing up on keyboards rather than the other way around. And when Prince leads it sounds so much better.

I wasn't "complaining", merely pointing out that its not worth the money for me to join if the music is via downloads. Ive tried getting Mp3s before and they all sounded terrible, and thats after several attempts to download each one as well. So for me, no CDs = no NPGMC.

No complaining, just stating fact.

Victory? Victory, you say? Not victory. Begun, the Club War has.

Sorry, watched Star Wars on an airplane. Yoda is cuter than Prince, these days.

Do you really think they would have released xpecatation if fans didnt speak up?

No, I do not. Maybe a few of the bashers should be saying "thank you"...

Now, is the record any good? I haven't listened to it yet.

And yes, thank you NPGMC. This was the right thing to do.

I agree. They saved face [no pun intended] at the very end
of the year. Xpectation is a cool album and I'm glad we got
it in the end.

The download of "Empty Room" is a very nice extra as well.
Especially since it sounds more like a studio live song than
an actual stadium recording [kinda like "the undertaker" cd]

It's kind of silly to see all these people coming down on
these downloads and calling it all bs and crap. Where the
hell do they get off anyway?

I mean, with the whole ona and the non-verbal treatment I
myself was also being quite negative. But this new album and
the extra download, to me anyway, completes the year in a
good and cool style.

I really honestly don't see any reason for anyone to keep
complaining now. But surely, someone will give me some tips

I wouldn't be so sure. Gollum could certainly take Jar Jar, but the little green man comes strapped for action.

I am still loving it!

It was coming all along, Prince had a hectic schedule this year, bringing himself live around the world. Glad to see he is back home, and I am looking forward to the next version of the club.

What a great year!

In my opinion the NPGMC has lived up to expectations from the beginning, however the "club" aspect will not work because folks can be given everything stated by the NPGMC and still will not be satisfied.

I have worked in the jewelry business and always had people trying to get something for nothing.

There is a good book that describes this whole NPGMC debate. It's called BUYERS ARE LIARS & SELLERS ARE TOO.

My proposal for the NPGMC has been this.
a.Prince continued to release music via independent labels for mainstream release every 3 years.

b.The NPGMC website would have a club/pay per download option which any sell would also come with a strict policy that would eliminate ebayers & other bootleg sales.

c.CDs,videos & other items could be for sale along with concert tickets & aftershow events.

The problem with this is going to be starting capital to get this off the ground. That is the reason a "club fee" was charged in the beginnings.Money wise it is easier to send music via e-mail than it is to make a cd and send it to the individual.

I have said it before and I will say it again. The NPGMC needs to communicate clearly and unambiguously in order for us to all stop complaining. Had they said...

"Xenophobia/Xpectations will be released as a download at the end of the year in addition to the ONA CD and the ONA Live CD plus another surprise" then we would have all been frothing at the mouth.

If NPGMC had done as you suggest they would have had a ton of e-mails:
What day will Xenophobia be released as a download?
What format will it be?
Will artwork be provided?
Will this be released as a cd at a later date?
etc.
No matter what NPGMC does there will always be fans pestering them for more info so they are just as well off holding info back.

So they'd have a ton of e-mails. History seems to suggest that they'd just ignore them.

But you can't see that, can you? A "release date" really isn't that much to ask, even from your beloved Prince.

My god, do you need everything explained to you? When you rationalize everything Prince does so that anything the fans do seems like pestering to you, it's pretty clear what you're thinking. Again, what is wrong with customers expecting a little bit of service? Even from Prince?

One other thing...

I think this "album" IS Xenophobia (rather obvious with all the X's) but that the title track is removed because it is on ONA Live AND it is a little dig at all us fans who all have different Xpectations on what we should get from the club.

Me too, i heard somewhere that this was recorded early this year. And if I recall... NPGMC stated that Xenophobia was coming few time throughout the year...

1.) Coming to a Monitor near you... on the website

-AND-

2.) At 4:44 the 1+1+1=3 live track he released this summer he states: "Xenophobia - Coming soon to a monitor near you"

I think he changed the title... So, what I am saying is that I don't think this was a last minute download to appease unhappy members...

I would agree with you
but we will never know either way.
NPGMC sure as hell isn't going to come out & admit they released the downloads because of customer complaints.
If people who complained want to feel they brought about some change whats the harm.
Just enjoy the music & wait for the next surprise!

I think the "pestering" made a few candles flicker on the fanatics beloved Prince altar.. lol if the management could have put a band-aid on this problem, they would have, intead of closing up shop and taking the website down.
