Opus - Really Prince? Really?? I think you're one cool dude Prince. And I love your music. And I am a convert - I mean, I grew up on the Allman Brothers and the Stones. I only started to really dig your music when I married my husband, who is a huge Prince fan. And I had no problem jumping on the purple bandwagon; you're a talented musician and brilliant businessman. But this Opus deal?
Really Prince? Really? Who is going to be able to afford the new Opus spectacle you have conjured? I mean, it's beautiful, and it's cool, but is anyone other than your million dollar counterparts going to be able to enjoy it? It's just redolent of self indulgence. And inequal opportunity. | |

The funny thing is, 21 nights Book was actually quite crap (imho). The cd was ok, but the self indulgent photoshopped pics were not what fans were after. The only reason most folk didn't moan (imho) was the very reasonable price tag. Now he has gone and reissued the same shit in a crazy expensive version. Its still a pigs ear though. A gold leafed pigs ear, but still the same.
I read an interesting article last week, about how even the celebs are toning down their excessive vulgarities because public opinion was strongly swaying against materialism in these trying times. The big fashion houses were suffering because the celebs and ultra rich did not want to seem out of touch with the common man. Chanel were crying out to please keep spending cash, their cries were falling on deaf ears. So they have had to make huge cut backs. Less is now officially more. Prince has obviously not gotten the memo on this. Cover a vanity project in diamonds for sure, but at least donate the auction proceeds to people in need. Give it to the italian earthquake victims, give it to the needy. Just give it to someone else, not as fortunate as you are. Give something back, thats the only reason (imho) to create something like this golden turd. Create it for a reason. One that doesn't start and end in $. For one thing i can afford the opus so i feel offended  , 2: the quality of pictures in this book is far higher, 3: you people need to stop whining. If you cant or don't want to buy it don't make a scene. If prince wants to make something cool that is exclusive like this with his symbol as a pin and a custom purple ipod that has the 40min video of one of his 21 nights show with comments from matt damon, naomi campbell, elton john etc with his symbol on the back for 2100 dollars, THAN WHATS THE PROBLEM WITH IT?
I am half italian and have lived there for several years and we have donated a lot to the earthquake, i donate a lot in general. We all will receive the 40 min dvd and documentary eventually anyways and merchandise from the websites. All I'm saying is stop making such a fuss about a 2100 dollar book, its not the first time someone has a project like this and its not the end of the world and especially you should consider the fact that you should have no voice on what prince does for his business. You don't know him i don't know him and so you should not judge what he may think by doing this project like saying he is greedy and what not. You should only care for his music and if your that sick that your going to act like you know him and what not then I'm worried. Just listen to his music and thats it. Now a last word on the economic crisis, just because articles say people are losing money drastically and not spending it on luxurious things as much, it does not make it fully true. Now there is some truth to this. We all are more attentive and watch our money more carefully but let me tell you, someone who wants this book and has the money to buy it, will buy it. I personally don't want to buy it cause all i care for is the 40 min vid and that will come out later on The 21 nights book has the pictures that this one has and for the ipod I'm not all to interested. Wow Sonny. You certainly took my post the wrong way. I wasn't judging Prince - I don't know him - how could I judge him? I was just stating my opinion.
No need to be offended by your own prosperity - if you have the money to spend, then by all means, spend away - it helps the economy. I am just commenting that this project is out of many people's league. I certainly wasn't whining, and I definitely was not making a scene. I never inferred that I have a "voice on what Prince does for his business" - to the contrary, I believe I said I thought he was a brilliant businessman. Clearly, this project is not a huge moneymaking opportunity for Prince though. Even when he sells all 950 copies, he will only gross $1,995,000.00. A mere drop in the proverbial bucket compared with his other money making ventures. "You only like his music and if your that sick that your going to act like you know him and what not then I'm worried. Just listen to his music and thats IT." No need to worry. Unless of course it is about your poor spelling and grammar. Was that too much? Did I cross the line? Have a spendid day. | |

[Edited 4/13/09 8:16am] I think the point is that even people who were in a comfortable financial position are feeling the crunch.We lost half of our investment savings in the stock market.Our home,lost half it's value, and our equity line was frozen accordingly.Most people, regardless of income, are making purchasing decisions with caution.It is bad timing!
