Tom

Have any of you started writing your "FU" letters to NPGMC yet?

I'm kind of excited that NPGMC 2002 ends after next month, instead of February.

Call me twisted, but I'm looking forward to declining their offer for 2003 (if they can stay in business to even offer it).

I'm also looking forward to explaining to them how shitty their "club" is, without having to hear "the year isnt over yet, shut up and wait" remarks.

*sigh*

Problem is, the people that read your e-mails and respond to them cannot do anything about it. They're probably just has frustrated as we are.
And I think, though this year's membership ends Dec 31st, that the new edition of the club (and I think it's almost 100% sure that there will another year) won't start before February.

And also I believe that many of us who now say that they won't be renewing will reconsider this after they told us what the next year is going to be like.

I canceled my membership last year, cuz I had a feeling the music was gonna suck this year, be delayed, or something.

The only reason I joined was on a last minute whim to go to the rehersal.

It was a pricey experience I wont be doing again.

Sure, if Prince does a 180 and puts out killer albums next year, as soon as I hear of it I will consider joining again.

But does anyone REALLY think the club and its music and business practices will improve next year???

Your better off waiting it out to see if it was worth it. You're gonna wait just as long anyhow for your CDs.

Actually I think yes, if the club will have the same format next year (CDs shipped to members), they will improve it.

I think the club was worth it just for being able to attend a members only celebration--and I didnt even go. Who wants to go to a cele with riff-raff and where they let just anybody in?

I hear ya tom..but I'm willin' to take the risk I guess.

I don't know if they will improve or not but what I do know is...the first year was great...but at the time we all thought it sucked and we complained...so they changed it. This year, we all think it sucks (now), so we're complaining. I'ma guessin' that next year may not be any "better" but it will certainly be different than it was this year...
shrug I don't think anyone enjoys dealing with all the complaints and e-mails so...I think they will try to eliminate those problems even if its just to make they're jobs more pleasant.

I can understand your frustration.I was going to join prior to the UK gigs.As it turns out i only went to one gig in Manchester and they didn't have a Soundcheck on the 7th (or so i heard)
so i didn't really miss out in that respect. As for the upcoming ONA set, members are going to get this only just before stores.I fail to see the value for money in it myself.

there's always next year though. rolleyes

You might be writing a FU letter, but not me. Yeah Prince does suck at business ventures, but I got my moneys worth.
For my hundred dollars spent I got:

1. Met Prince.
2. Seats in the front row.
3. The best concert I've seen Prince put on!
4. Sang in concert w/Prince.
5. Sat next to Princes guitars. (I'm a guitar freak.)
6. Met JB.

Yes The club has its problems I.E. Where's the music?
BUT the perks kick ass! smile

I think that information is a given. No club has free concert tickets as part of the membership..plus getting to "meet" Prince and sing with him in concert is worth the extra moola. Dont ya think?

Sad to say that I declined to join this year because of all the problems I had the previous year. I figured I'd give them a year to get their act together. From the posts I read here I see nothing has changed. _STILL WAITING_

I have to say my 1st year membership experience was great w/ the highlight being the HOB aftershow in LA which i saw for free, not to mention the soundcheck. My membership expired in may & i went on to renew for this year. Needeless to say i was beyond disappointed when they sold out of passes for the celly & then npgmc strung me along by putting me on a waiting list for 2 passes while my air travel & work were hanging in the balance. The 1st day of the celebration they inform they had 2 passes. By then it was too late, airfare would of been too costly & i ended up making plans for the nxt week because i couldn't afford to wait any longer. The ones who got to go to the celly will say i should of bought my passes earlier but after the previous 2 yrs not selling out waiting just 2 weeks out to buy didn't seem that unreasonable. My gripe is the communication is ridiculous. After spending $100 for my renewal i have so far gotten a $15 cd of what i amount to "dinner music" & another often promised "live" set around $50 made available to the public. The whole celebration experience really soured me but at least i figured I'd be getting the 4 cd's promised by years end. Sadly i don't think i will be renewing next year unless things change with the club. Nonetheless i will continue to enjoy Prince's music as do all who have similar gripes, i just hope the future of the club also includes more respect to each & every member.

NO! I am satisfied with my membership. I got row 5 aisle ticket to Saturday night DC show of ONA tour. Row 5...I doubt I would ever be that close without the membership. The ONA tour was the best of the 3 live shows I went to in DC.

I really appreciate that club members get front row seats and that we get the Celebration tickets even though I could not make use of that feature.

The CD we already received is good. It has not been offered to the public yet. I also got the Days of Wild CD that was offered in members retail only.

I look forward to the 3 CD box set that will be here soon. I trust that it will be worth the wait and will be here.

I have emailed NPG club and have gotten timely responses.

One of the other reasons I joined this year over last year, is the promise of CDs rather than downloads. I didn't have access to equipment to do the downloads. For me, that was very important to my joining and may not be to others.

I will renew. I hope to attend next year's celebration. I'd much rather let the money I spend on Prince stuff go to the artist that creates the music than to others.

Is there room for improvement? Sure, but nothing is perfect. Membership does have its perks, and besides we made the choice to join..no one forced membership upon us. The year is not over yet. If the year ends without fullfillment of the promised CDs, that is the time to complain or decide was the year membership worth it, or at least for me, that is the time.

Just my opinions.

Peace

My letter to the Better Business Bureau is already typed. Just waiting for the official word as to what the final CD will be, If the live set counts as fulfillment of my membership, I'ma lickastamp.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I won't write a letter to NPGMC this coming year and I will pay my memebership fee for 2003.
I was told by someone from NPGMC that they are thinking about having a forum and a chat room for members next year.
