Coming soon 2 MPLS:

– eradication of hunger: community gardens full of free food (and classes on how 2 prepare it), smack in the middle of neighborhoods where fresh food is hard 2 find.

– A COMMUNITY CENTER 4 the disenfranchised… a place 4 children (and anyone) 2 get spiritual, physical and psychological nourishment, afterschool help; a safe place 2 go; a place 2 build up what’s been torn down in r families, cities and worlds… bringin’ back the UNITY in r come unities.

– much more 2 come.. this is just the beginning!

The thing that I find interesting is Prince has been in similar situations before (the USA for Africa/We Are the World/Hello situation). I think Prince handled himself extremely well back then with his response, and maybe should take a page from his own book to set this situation straight...with song.

I've always admired that Prince has been one of those rare celebrities who gives and contributes to charity behind the scenes and doesn't grandstand for media attention.

Every so often I started a thread here about whatevea happened to the L4OA charities, which so impressed me at the time. True, ppl gave vague input that the're still somewhat active, but that's it. Fine.
But to get this report (and their work still impresses me) with this timing is very bad taste...

I'm a tremendous fan of Prince, his music, his innovation, his style, even MOST of his movies

I'm not calling out Prince on what he's currently got going on. This isn't all that new either. Remember when he did the cease and decist thing to a bunch of Prince related sites and then tried to bring a bunch of people in to work on his site? I thought that was a bit strange then, just as I think what's going on now is a bit strange. However, Prince has been known to be very controlling when it comes to his image (You work for Prince, you sign a non-disclosure agreement), the media, and his music.

All of this shouldn't be shocking to the die-hard Prince fan. It sucks, sure, but it's kind of par for the course for Prince. He's pissed off fans many times with his behavior, myself included, but he also has an interesting habit of making it all right again with some interesting music and/or concerts.

Jeez, being a fan can be a bit like being in an abusive relationship can't it? Maybe in some ways, being a fan is like being closer to the guy than we think. For those of us really into his music, we learn the ups and downs of his output and the experiences of those who play with him. Some of the stories are shocking, but also interesting. Same goes for those into Prince's relationships, interesting and shocking at times.

Prince is by no means a saint. Actually, that's what I like about him. He stirs the pot, and I'm not really sure if it's intentional or not.

The point stands - this was posted now as damage limitation, since the only people bothered to even read 3121.com are fans - fans who also visit sites like this and will be aware of Prince's recent, and continued, actions against such sites.
