.... some people have no idea about the real meaning of christmas, it's not just about food and gifts.

It's a pagan tradition honoring the end of winter period - where daylight gets shorter and shorter - to the summer period - when daylight gets longer...

Its co-option within the dwindling Roman empire ("the West") as "Jesus’ birthday" is a completely fictional invention by the Church in order to wield political control over the largely pagan population at the time.

Preach! Maybe 2006 will be a kiss-and-make-up year between Warner Bros and Prince.

Or, how 'bout we get that "manufacturing" snafu figured out with the Chocolate Invasion Box-Set, and press us some silvers and artwork. Save the hatboxes and posters of never released side projects. Give us some tangible music product.

I'm wit y'all. That website looks like it was put together by a high school student on his spare time --- 8 years ago --- who never found the time to update it.

Lame is too weak a word to describe...

Actually, the whole retail store is BS, as far as I'm concerned. I don't want to buy no damn earrings. And I definitely don't want to buy a War cassette (cassette?!).

The gift certificate is a joke.

And hey, what's this about the Chocolate Invasion box set?
Come here, babe.. yeah...

funny that the technology is here for the kid next store to press and release thousands of his punk CDs every week... yet not one person in Prince's camp can get the ball rolling, or thinks it wise to increase NPGMC's audio output for the few fams that are sticking around... its just odd, really.

Since some of you folks hate the website so much, perhaps it is better to just shut down forever and we can purchase our tickets at regular price at ticketmaster and get items off ebay.

The ticket presales are nice...but that's only a valuable perk when there are some shows to buy tickets to, and there haven't been for over a year. Beyond that, the Club hasn't offered much for awhile, except for a couple of new tracks last year that have yet to become available any other way.

I think the point folks here are making is that they don't WANT the things that are for sale on the site these days; they already have all the music that's available. So the threat of closing the site, or at least the Retail store, sure isn't very frightening!

LOL! "Oh no, NPGMC Retail is gone, and I'm out of incense!!" razz It's a music club, sell us some music we don't already have!! nod The other stuff should be a secondary consideration. JMHO. cool

I have to agree. Funny thing is, it hasn't really moved on that far since the NPG shops. I once went to the one in Camden. I expected it to have every album, single, 12 inch, video going - instead it had a very small rack of completely random and incomplete set of CDs, and instead focused on selling candles and jewellery. It complete the missed the point - Prince is a musician and we're in it for the music primarily, not the way he dresses!

And strangely enough... those closed down!

That was my point. If yall are not going to miss it anyway, then perhaps it should shut down since no-one is satisfied with it, and some even get upset about it.

There's only a banner. And a bunch of price drops. The "Hatbox" is now priced at $77.77.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

woot! giggle Wonder how many of those they sold, anyway? The book did have nice pics, but the rest of the stuff in that package... disbelief

I look at it this way. Its better than nothing. If Prince had nothing online, there would be plent yof bitching. The site has wom awards so someone ,must think it is doing or did something of value. It is still up so it must be getting hits.

I know this: when people ask me how I got in the front row for 4 or 5 shows and actually got a Watchtower from Prince's hand during a concert, all I can say is that I am a devoted NPG member. I have seen the angry faces of concert goers when security escorts NPG members into the venue ahead of them and it has always made me feel as if I got what I deserved as a devoted fan that bought everything Prince ever released and saw every tour since 1978. When I tell them about seeing Prince up so close that I could read the words in his lyric book on stage during an amazing aftershow that I got into for nothing while others were paying $100, people always ask me how I managed that. Or when I play a track that they have never heard and then ask me where I got it, There is no way to deny the value of the NPG music club. I wont even get into the funky collectibles (like that beautiful Emancipation lyric book and Neo Manifesto) and entire albums (like Xpectation) that I have gotten from the site since its original 1800NEWFUNK incarnation as they are too numerous to discuss here.

I guess I am just saying that admidst all the bitching, a comprehensive perspective on Prince's online business is due. I speak as a person who has been there from day one - I joined the day the site went up and I have not left since. While it is obvious that there are people who disagree, it has paid off for me quite well. Call me horny - I dont care...cause I am in the front row - again. lol

Quick survey.

How many people here have friends and family, outside of the online Prince community, that you think these would be the perfect gift for?

I wish Prince's ego would realise that it's only already established fans that want any of his NPGMC shite. These fans probably already are members of the Club, and if they're not, then they've got a good reason not to be and these certificates clearly won't encourage them.

There's nothing sadder than a fan of an artist trying to convert a non-fan... Prince doesn't see this and thinks that this is an ideal opportunity to get non fans converted.

Release innovative, likeable, great music that non-fans might find exciting, Prince. That's the best way to get new people interested in your music. Don't make crap attempts at getting your fans to do your promotion for you.

clapping well written.
