Why the Cost to Join?

sad I am a #1 Prince fan! Why does it cost like $25 to join the NPG Music Club, it makes me kind of mad. I want to join but I think, if you just buy Prince stuff such as products and CD's that should be enough! Other artist let you join for free because your a fan!!! razz

They charge because people will pay big bucks to get their Purple Rain on!
I have 3 memberships and I might buy another if he goes back on tour soon.

I would imagaine to buy 6 tickets. But the real question is why couldn't none of th other people you are bringing buy a membership?

I used to be pretty wild when I was younger. That wildness combined with being Catholic has left me with five children. Hence the need for at least 6 tickets.
Now, who's the REAL LOVE MACHINE?

It costs money so as to limit the number of members to only hard-core fans. When he is on tour the club gives members access to the closest seats, but only 2 tickets per member. If it was free to join, non-hard-core fans could join under multiple names and buy lots of tickets, perhaps giving some to ticket scalpers which is what Prince wanted to avoid in the first place. Basically you might end up with a lot of non-club members in the best seats.

Callejero, did you manage to buy all the memberships on 1 credit card and with 1 address and 1 email account, or did you have to get a bit creative? Have you actually used your membership to get into concerts yet? Because it occurred to me that when you collect your ticket as you go in, you have to prove your identity as a club member, and since they know it is only 2 tickets per member, I don't see how you could collect all 6 tickets at once unless you went back out and rejoined the queue to get in twice more...

Well if you're mad now just wait until you get banned from the forums.
You will be totally pissed that you paid $25 & now they won't let you participate in the forums.
Then you will come back to the org
& complain about the unfair tactics at NPGMC.

bans are typically temporary (like sending your child to the corner) unless you do something really, really bad or are a repeat offender. I think it makes sense to charge the membership fee. The site doesnt run for free. You have to pay for servers, bandwith, etc. Not to mention the cost to continually design the site. try going to another artist's site and see what they charge? most don't have a one time, lifetime fee, most are renewable annually

even if you only use it for the discounted price of merchandise, right to exclusive downloadable music, and first right at concert tix, you have more than made your money back! cool

Come on... Why do things normally cost money? Not to limit people. In fact the club doesn't limit the number of memberships per person. So it isn't about money??

Really? So They couldn't simply have as a rule that members can not get more than 2 tickets and no more than 1 membership so this made up problem doesn't exist anymore?

You can defend the club's business tactics, but a business is about money and nothing else.
You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.
