Where the $#@# is all the music?????

I mean come on! The most creative artist in music, with so much music created that it is literally overflowing out of the windows of paisley park, and there has not been a download in ages!

Prince, the chipmunks on the grass at paisley park do not have a computer or CD player. Let's get the music out to the lifeforms that actually want it k? RELEASE IT!! Ty

Maybe we should start a support group for frustrated Prince fans? I'm with you 100%, he should crack open the vault. I think he's probably waiting till he gets his precious masters back and then he will relese "deluxe" versions of all of his albums with bonus tracks. If so, we probably have a lot longer to wait!

I think this coment is the most accurate, I don't think the vault will be opened any time soon

I may be wrong, but that wasn't really a download, was it? I think it was more of a tease and a limited one at that. Many people missed it. But it was a taste of new music. I just hope there is soon more to come and both tracks are offered in better quality!

Correct, that was not a download, that was a song P had left over from Slaughter sessions that he decided to throw a kick ass guitar solo on the end to, and then release it saying it is 2004, w/ 96bit sound ?? horrible.

I think i speak for everyone here when I talk about a "download" as something new on the mixer, in high quality, that we pay .77 for. Much music, doesnt count in my book, it was already aired on TV. Thats like me watchin larry king live, then headin to Larry's personal web site to pay him $2 to watch it again in horrible quality.

P your a genius brotha, but lay the tunes on us, we can handle it. You now have a PERFECT medium for distribution to your fans.

I have thought about this before. Prince knows what we want. If i was sitting there in paisley and I was Prince, I would be sayin to myself "man my fans treat me so well, what a great success they made musicology for me, i love each and every one of them for their support, what oh what could I give back to to them? I got it! I have thousands of songs they want to hear, let me take some time and grab some cool stuff I know they will like. Just a little something to say hey, I hear your calls, and they are about to be dropped in the mew mixer. Stay tuned. Also, while I'm at it, lets have a list of 50 songs to choose from every month, the fans will vote on which 10 will be up for download on the mixer"

.77 x 10? I can still do it. Honestly though, If I were in P's shoes, I would be HAPPY to listen to my fans and give them what they want. I can't think of a reason not to.

Oh well, maybe in an alternate universe.....when is Sliders on next?

if prince were to bow to every fan's standards who had a cross thing to say about how he's releasing music at NPGMC, he'd have to release 12 songs every 6.34 seconds, every day for the next 937 years.

this is according to the 2005 farmer's almanac, by the way.

Yeah, but the way Prince tells it, he has enough songs in the vault to do that... lol

Sometimes I think Prince thinks "I know, I'll leave my label because I can't release my music as fast as I write it. Then I'll start my own label in complete freedom, then I'll start an internet site to download music. All the while I write more and more music and then .....I'll never release it lol lol "

I agree 100%! What is he waiting for? OK, I understand that he is probably saving some of the vault material for reissues, but he supposedly has much more than enough for that. It really is frustrating. He complained so much about being limited by WB and now he has NO limitations but his ouput hasn't really increased very much. Aaarrrggghhh!!!

Where the $#@# is all the music?????

hmmm Well...

In 2001, he released The Rainbow Children.
Then about 4 months later released One Nite Alone.
Then about 8 months later released One Nite Alone Live.
Then about 7 months later released N.E.W.S.
Then about 8 months later released Musicology.

That is far more music than most artists put out in the same span of time. How often do you guys expect dude to churn stuff out for you?

If I could sum up P's feelings on the matter in one word: qwitcherbitchin'. cartman

Your right in respects to other artists, I mean how long do we have to wait for Maxwell's next album.

But on the other side of the coin we are talking about Prince, who has a vault full of material that his legion of follwers are dying for, buying bootlegs, meanwhile people on Ebay are getting rich of his art.

The thing I think most people here are upset about is he has download store that every once in a blue moon he throws you a bone.

would you guys share EVERY page in your journal?

sure he makes music all the T.I.M.E., but that doesn't mean it is supposed to have an audience right N.O.W.

what have you done with all that has been put out this far? If L.I.F.E. was about pleasing the masses and makin' money - well then...

You're right, many fans are crying for more, but my point still stands. Sure, P may toss fans a bone every few months in the form of a download, but just keep in mind those Maxwell fans, those D'Angelo fans, the Sade fans and Janet fans who just have to sit and wait.
As much as I love those artists, I don't see them hookin' their fans up with the best tickets either.
I don't know, maybe P has a plan regarding what to do with all that music. We certainly can't expect him to just start releasing stuff at will. He loves putting out music, but I don't think he wants to lose much money in the process. From his standpoint, he's got a lot to think about as far as what's practical and beneficial for his art, his business and the fans. It's not as easy as some folks may think.

These other artists mentioned here lack the creative output Prince has. I am comapring Prince to Prince, nobody else. I don't think we can compare the output quantity needs of onother fanbase VS the Prince fanbase. They are 2 completely different things. Fact is, he has the material, old and new, that we have yet to hear. He talks about it, he says he will give it away, etc, we have all seen the interviews. We are talking thousands of songs he could choose from at any given time. Even if he released one song a week for 10 years straight, it still would not put a dent in the massive amount of music he is sitting on. I say thousands, because he himself has stated "thousands". After 10 years, how many more unreleased songs will he have done in that period, well, a ton. 1 song a week sounds good to me, and based on his output, and the fact that we will be paying for it, it does not seem like a bad deal for either of us.

I remember on the Oprah show, he was asked how many more songs are in him. He replied "hopefully one a day until the day I die" well, lets be conservative and say he does one a week instead. Sticking with my output request above, he would be releasing a song a week, and also writing a song a week. After that 10 years goes by, we are still at square one so to speak... thousands of songs we have still not heard. I for one don't know how he does it, it truly amazes me.

Yeah it's his music, he can do with it what he pleases, but at the same time, why have a very slick downloadable music medium if you are going to throw stuff up there that has already been released on cd, or tv appearances that everyone has already seen (for the most part), everyone would much rather have something substantial in its place i am sure. TRC, MUSICOLOGY, well its great that they are downloadable, but put em in a different section, save the mixing board for the stuff that has not been released, old and new.

I am grateful to Prince for creating the music he has, I truly am, he is an inspiration to me. However at the same time I can't help but wonder why he cant give back to the people who have given so much to him over years. It's about the music for me, keep the posters, the mugs, the mouse pads, the jewelry, and get that music flowin! Afterall it is a MUSIC club.

Peace

I agree with you a 100%, I am tired of the other swag, however some of it is nice. The only thing that never changes over there at NPG retail is the audio/video section, and its a fucking shame.

I prefer to have a cd but I'll take a download. As a serious Madhouse fan I love 8 and 16 the fact that a bootleg is in constant float out there of 24 pisses me off. It would be nice to have that, not to mention all the remixes of songs we know already, and of coarse the ones we don't mad

I could not agree more. This is one of my big beef's with the club. If they put a tenth of the effort into the music as they do the merchandise we'd all be happy. Really, who buys all of that crap?

I agree wholeheartedly Odyssey. How would people like it if they worked for themselves but yet had other people trying to tell them what to do?

I waited patiently for a new Anita Baker album. Took her four years. Never once did I even consider buying a bootleg in those four years.

Based on his output. The following would make me happy.

1. 4 officially released albums a year (not avail at npgmc)
2. at least 6 new songs a month for download at the club (could be new stuff, vault stuff, live stuff, unreleased remixes, etc)
3. at least 2 unrealeased projects a year available at npgmc IE: roadhouse garden type projects.....

Honestly, Prince could probably never release enough music to satisfy me. (Unless he released everything) But four songs in a year? OK, I do have to factor Musicology in there too, but I kind of feel like Prince isn't taking full advatage of the download store. I think there should be at least a few downloads each month. There was kind of a lot at the beginning (even though a lot of folks had most of it) but lately there hasn't been much of anything. He has SO many songs. What's he waiting for?
