sold-out shows

Someone unsticky this thread and sticky Fred's thread here

http://www.prince.org/msg/12/94060

I don't have time to keep mine up to date (and originally copied Fred's list anyway) and for some reason my thread is locked. Do they just get locked after enough time passes, or did someone lock this thread?

Fred - can you update yours with the attendance info - you can get weekly updates for at least some of the shows attendance here:

http://www.billboard.com/...xscore.jsp

I edited down the dates from here (why is that thread locked)

http://www.prince.org/msg...sg_1545243

to just show the actual tour dates and updated the sellouts with the confirmed sell outs. Post here if you can confirm some of the other shows sold out or if you know the actual attendance for the shows and I'll update this post.

This list is somewhat off. Oklahoma City, Columbus and Pittsburgh didn't sellout. They had reduced capacities in the arenas after tickets went onsale. Tampa didn't sellout either.

just updated to add the results from this weeks' billboard.

And I'll go with Billboards definition of sell out over the gold experience's. Why is it some people are so insistent on trying to show Prince isn't selling tickets or selling albums when clearly he is doing both. His best album debut ever, and lots of people coming to see him.

here's the latest billboard chart

http://www.billboard.com/...xscore.jsp

Prince sold out at least 3 shows, Beyonce/Alicia Keyas/Missy Elliot/Tamia only sold out 1 out of 4 shows at smaller venue configurations.

dunno but both that thread and this one need to have stickies so they stay at the top of this forum.

Yeah, I agree. Don't get me wrong - I enjoy seeing the updated sell-out lists, but it bugs everytime TGE rebuffs everything that is said.....it becomes a never-ending thread of arguing back and forth.

er

I totally agree with you there mchotsie... I posted something just last week saying how positive Prince is as an influence on teens and the next thing you know, TGE starts slamming everything I've said. I agree that TGE should be allowed to say whatever they want, but its pretty sad when all that they can seem to do is try to burst everyone's bubble... real fans don't do that...

For the New York area shows, a search for tickets on Ticketmaster shows up no available tickets (does that constitute a tentative SOLD OUT?) for the following dates:

12.07.2004: New York/NY, Madison Square Garden, $89.50
13.07.2004: New York/NY, Madison Square Garden, $89.50
16.07.2004: East Rutherford/NJ, Continental Airlines Arena, $87

And for these dates, only the "nosebleed" seats seem to be left:

14.07.2004: New York/NY, Madison Square Garden, $89.50
18.07.2004: East Rutherford/NJ, Continental Airlines Arena, $87

I updated it as of all of the posts on here to this point - I count 33 sell outs thus far, and around 80 shows total. Who else is generating this kind of concert gross sales this year? This tour should generate at least $50-60 million by the time it's all done. Can anyone confirm the 3 dates that were listed as unconfirmed?

U people trip me out on every little detail of Prince. Who cares if he sells out arenas. I don't see the big deal. We all know it's a high number of die hard Prince fans around the world. And has anyone ever heard of him not filling up arenas....come on now talk about other important issues like how come he's so money hungry with every tour. He toured the US/World at least 4-5 times ove the past 8 yrs., so is it any reason 2 keep charging these crazy prices 4 concerts. He does it cuz he knows he can sell out regardless. I'm not gonna lie I am a die hard fan and affliate of the JW faith. I don't understand the GREED factor here at all. I know one of u will gladly breif me on ur thoughts.

He actually hasn't toured the US/World on *THIS* scale 4 or 5 times in the last 8 years. The One Nite Alone show in 2002 was on a much smaller intimate scale, and only hit a limited number of cities in America and Europe. Before that there the start of a Hit n Run arena tour in 2000 that was aborted. The last time he toured really like this was in 98 with the Newpower Soul festival with Chaka Khan and Larry Graham... but with two other acts it was still different.

So yes this is noteworthy.

As far as "greed," his ticket prices are actually on the LOW end for artists of his caliber and stature. For example, Madonna's ticket prices are well into the $100s. By comparison Prince's ticket prices are actually pretty cheap.

And as far as clocking every detail... some of us just like the facts and details for the record.

Prince hasn't sold tickets like this in a long, long time. His US tours were in smaller and smaller venues. Some thought he couldn't sell tickets (or albums) at these kinds of numbers again. Quite a few people though he was nuts when they found out he was touring these major arenas instead of smaller places. His last US tour was in 3000 seat theaters. Now he's pulling in 5-6x that number nightly.

Columbus was considered sold-out since the floor seats would of filled the few empty at the upper level.

I was there and the place was pretty dog gone FULL and ROCK'N

Exactly what I was going to say when I read the above post by Cinergi45....lame "performers" today (i.e. Britney, Christina, Celine, etc.) are charging more than $75-$85 per ticket! AND, they don't offer the perks that Prince does to his fans. With the VERY inexpensive NPGMC membership, you get killer seats, free CD's in the mail from time to time, soundcheck access (at past shows), free aftershow access (at past shows).....what more could you ask for? Okay, well I'm sure we'd all want more if P were to ask us, but really....come on!
