The show was great but Damn....

So here we go....

I have seen Prince numerous times and this wasn't in my Top 5. I can't really put my finger on it but it just wasn't the same. I loved the beginning with the video clips and alicia keys intro.. that may have been the best intro i've seen but then going into Musicology kinda killed it right off the bat. I love his new stuff believe me... i love his entire catalog but it kinda dragged on. I knew he would play only pieces of certain songs because he has so many damn hits it would kill him to play all of them in their entirety. that green fender guitar was def. not a plus. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CLOUD MAN?!?!?! that guitar is the bomb and only you play it.... that green guitar made him look small and just wasn't visually appelaing 2 me. Here were the highlights of the show...

Him playing Shhh. from the Gold Experience. This song is one of my favs and thank god he played it last night!!! The guitar in it is off the hook!!! He wrote the song for Tevin Campbell but obviously showed why he's the one that can bring it to life.

Maceo's Parker Solo!!! That in itself was a history lesson!!! That moved me as much as PRain solo did the first time i heard it. That dude is a badass and can wipe the floor with anyone who tries to step up. Thank God for MACEO!!!

The One from New Power Soul!!! This song is one of his best and he jammed it out last night. In a interview he gave around 4 years ago he said that this was one of his favorite songs he had ever written and I agree... Prince You Da One Baby!!!

HERE IS MY NUMERO UNO COMPLAINT!!!

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ACOUSTIC SET MAN?!?!?! I understand sound issue's and what not but don't for one second think that Prince doesn't realize that most of the people that come to his shows are lifers and have already seen this type of show. I think after the LA show and hypin it up so much He should have played the acoustic set. You All have no idea how much i wanted to hear "somtimes it snows in april" that is one song i will probably never hear now. but oh well... i still loved the show. It was short but still better then any rinky dink concert we normally go to.

The last thing is that Glendale Arean sucks!!! It's in the middle of BFE and the only place near it to have a pre-concert coctail was that little hole in wall bar GCC. Coming from The Bay Area in Cali and PacBell Stadium to this ugly brown arena blew!!!

Last Words..... "Prince, you are the greatest performer of this lifetime and once again I thankyou for putting on such a great show!!!"

Really? No acoustic set? What did he play instead of what he did in LA? How long was the show? Shorter? I was excited to read that he did Forvere In My Life and 7. I o-so want to hear those live.

I have to agree, first of it is all relative. I have seen enough of his shows to know that it was lacking a bit, but it was still him. Probably because he was pissed at the stupid sound guy. I live near the arena and it was my first time there, I dunno, I think it sucks too. We sooo missed out on the best part of the show, the acoustic set, like we will ever catch wind of that opportunity agian in Phoenix. Also I do miss him playin the guitar more, seems like he has got away from straight jammin on it like he used to. But hey, like you said, like the crap I am used to goin to see here, it is all good.

Yeah... but i think it's a hit or miss. according to some people he was pissed about the sound. And Prince is known to get pissed when technical mishaps happen. I think it was cut short because the acoustic set was missing. The LA show he played 5 or 6 acoustic songs and then closed with PRain. Last night he just went straight to PRain and that was it. People were screaming for an Encore but it didn't happen.... confused

How could he not do the acoustic set? Doesn't he know that he is supposed to play the exact same set every night????? Doesn't he know that his fams are so stupid that they don't know that he always almost varies his setlist as on past tours? Doesn't he get it that his fans are too dumb to remember that he didn't play the acoustic/piano set on about 1/3 of the Lovesexy Tour dates??? Damn, Prince really let us down....he never should have overestimated the intelligence of his audience.

I don't think the objection is that he's not playing the same set, but that a whole section of the show was discarded. Having been at the LA show, the acoustic set lasted for at least 30 minutes. So it's not a matter of losing out on one song here or there, but that Prince gave a far shorter show. Perhaps it was due to technical problems, but it's fair enough to be disappointed.

First of all, I don't think the acoustic set in LA was 30 minutes long. Secondly, like I said, the last in the round tour he did was the Lovesexy Tour and he cut out the acoustic part of that show on many, many of the dates. So anyone who remembers that would not be so shocked. If all you know is the Purple Rain album and don't know any Prince history, then I guess you might be shocked, but most real fans were not that surprised.

I was not there, so I won't comment on the set list. All I want to say is that MACEO PARKER is not on this tour. The new sax guy is Michael Phillips eek O.K.!! When ever someone mentions MACEO again, remember he is not currently with the TOUR!! All love

take a chill pill dude... almighty prince god!!! i'm not saying he should play the same set every night. but it would have been great to see him play the acoustic?!?! i was even hoping he play some stuff from The Truth but no... can't upset a "Real Prince" fan. And my bad about Maceo... that part still was great!!! anyway in reference to RupeyDoo. Prince is the reason i became a musician and it's amazing how tight his band is that he can switchup his setlist on the fly. you have to 100% in sync and his band does this flawlessly. but i could give a shite about the Lovesexy tour... this is Musicology and the acoustic set was missed by alot of people. i've seen him in europe, i saw him at Billboard with Larry Grahm in 96 play a 3 hour set. this was probably my 15th show and i still have NEVER seen him with just an acoustic... So if I'm pissed about it thats my right tuffguy =)

Dude, you don't even know who Maceo is. Do you think that was Sonny playing bass as well? Sorry, you just don't have any purple street cred...or maybe you just aren't an overly obsessive fan like me...hmmm...

Well, I hope I am wrong and he does do the acoustic set every night from now on. But i doubt it and I think he will leave it out of a number of shows..

Please.....

I had my obssesive years but that was like 5 years ago. i actually drove out to Burbank when he was playing on Leno to Support NPSoul. We got there at 7pm thursday night and were second in line. by morning there were like 1000 people. he played ComeOn twice... first was the rockin version and then him on keys. i forget her name but he had a hot black backup singer. Rhonda was in the band then also playing bass.. anyway, she pulled me out and i was dancing like 2 ft from him. she then gave me the tamborine she was playing with a black and red silk scarf... i have way more cred then you know sucka... i was part of the bay area prince club and went to Prince parties all the time in the city... and my aunt was in holland in 88 when he played small club 2nd show... one of his best jams ever. just my imagination or maybe you're the one who needs schooling?!?!?!

You dismiss the fact that people had optimistic expectations of an acoustic set based on the previous night's set list, but then throw out evidence from a tour 15 years ago. It's very possible that all of us weren't at the Lovesexy tour, but that doesn't make us not "real fans". And this tour is clearly designed to appeal to the casual fans, as well as what you would classify as "real fans". And those real fans would probably enjoy the freshness of an acoustic set, rather than hearing another version of Kiss or Take Me With You.

I totally agree that Prince should not be tied down by anyone's expectations, but people's feelings of disappointment are valid - regardless of the fact that he may have skipped that part of the show on the Lovesexy tour. When I see the show again in May, I will, frankly, feel let down if he skips the acoustic part of the show. Not because Prince is obligated to do it, but because, for myself, it was the BEST part of the show.

i feel you on that... of couse he's not obligated to do it. but i am going to check out some cali shows when he's there. if he doesn't play the acoustic then i give up. i love seeing him but like you said.. i have heard him play so many versions of those songs that a acoustic set would be awesome. and Rupert's an ass all over the place like he's princes little beatch. he got his ass chewed in the other forum as well. i bet he doesn't even know the name of the guitar prince played on LoveSexy... it was the only time he evr played it and it was made only for him....

well he spent money having that special swiveling stool with attached microphone, one would think he would get his money's worth.

although his feet were kind of dangling from his chair, so maybe that was the issue.
