Larry Graham, Opening Act, Musicology Tour

Does anyone know who the opening act will be on this tour or if there will be one? Of course my vote is 5 hours of Prince but I was just wondering. Also does anyone know if Larry Graham is coming along either as an opener or in Prince's band? My bass player friends want to know!!

I Rock, therefore I am!!

I'm pretty sure Larry is "officially" retired, but I'm sure he will pop up at a few of the shows and aftershows.

Really, since when has Prince EVER had any opening or support acts as such, per se!!???

He has always commanded the WHOLE show!! Or even if he has had support acts they have always had some connection 2 do with him on one way or another!! Like during the JOTY Tour GCS opened for him!!

Well yeah, that's what I'm askin'! Will GCS be there? I've got a couple of buddies who would really like to see them, or at least Larry on bass for one of the encores or something!! Any word on that?

PLEASE no Larry Graham!

He did use Vanity & The Time and such to open up for him in the past... but I'm not sure if those groups qualify. If he is trying to get back into the mainstream, shouldn't he hire a high profile opener? The Rolling Stones always have a quality, modern rock bands... sometimes several per tour. He should bring Alicia Keys!

If you'd skip the show because of the opener then your support of the artist is pretty limp! Just come late if you don't want to hang w/ Larry. Its all reserved seating anyway so what's the biggie? Personally a good buddy of mine is a big Larry fan and really wants to go IF Larry is there. Believe it or not this friend of mine can take or leave Prince (although I'm pretty sure if I can get him there he'll change his mind!) Anyway, thanks for the positivity and good info! Please post here if there is any news on Larry's involvement.

No, Larry is not the opening act. There isn't one.

well, i'm no hater. i got nothing against larry, his smelly shoes or his towel waving wife. they are sheer class, baby. lol
but seriously he has shaken my hand and i have shaken his! i know him to be a warm-hearted individual. it's just, i've already heard more than i wanted to of larry . . . he's not what i want to hear nothing against him, just.. . enough.

i'm losing the heart for prince stuff that over emphasizes larry's stuff lately. i'd rather go to a concert where i know i'll enjoy both the opening and main shows. like macy gray and bowie. THAt was groovy, baby, groovy. just my 2c

so, hater is YOUR interp. interesting choice of words

that's true. showing up late might be an option. sure larry is remarkable. it's just i don't dig his vibe. don't get me wrong i admire larry and his work, i'm just not willing to go to any trouble to hear it at this point. went to his album release party a while ago, listened to his stuff and it felt....flat
maybe id' enjoy the prospect of larry a lot more if he'd sit down with us and say 'here's a brand new song i wrote last night, or last week' but no.... it'll be 'thank you for lettin me be myself' or 'everyday people' again. why would ANY one play the same thing again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again?? it makes me think he must be an alien and those two songs are his alien pied pieper's calls or something. .

nod

Didn't you just answer your own question??? GCS did open for Prince on the JOTY tour, so isn't that an opening act? At the time, Larry Graham wasn't really "connected" with Prince, because they had just recently met. And besides, GCS was touring on its own and doing its own thing without Prince. So in my opinion, back during the JOTY tour, to have GCS open for him qualifies as a legitimate "opening act".

hmm. In the beginning GCS did not have a connection with him...

and to prove you wrong, I guess 1 example is enough. let's say Sheffield 1993 -> 4 Non-Blondes.

no prince connection whatsoever...

Anyone know this is how Candy got involved with Prince. She was scheduled as a support act i think on the SOTT or Lovesexy tour. Prince cancelled the supportact just hours b4 the show. Candy was so pissed at him that she wrote him a very angry letter. This how the two got hooked up.

btw im never into support acts...id rather sit and wait in anticipation....
