After he visited Paisley Park on Wednesday, DeShazer revealed that he’s gearing up for a tour he said will feature the Revolution, Sheila E. and Mazarati. “That will be the real Prince tribute concert,” he said. Reflecting on Prince’s death, the museum and the many tributes, DeShazer said Prince was “probably up in heaven laughing at everybody. He was like that, a little quirky, very cynical, but cute.”
DeShazer then paused, and sighed. “I miss him a lot.”

Bruce DeShazer still remembers Paisley Park when it first opened in the late 1980s, a nondescript building nestled in the middle of farmland on the edge of Chanhassen. “There wasn’t all this paint and beautiful stuff, it was basically a shell,” DeShazer said. “There weren’t even studios yet, it was just a warehouse.” DeShazer played guitar in Mazarati, one of the many Prince-affiliated bands of the era. At the time, he said, Paisley Park was simply the place where they all rehearsed. “We were there 18 hours a day,” he said. “If it wasn’t us, it was the Time or it was Sheila E. We’d share a bucket of chicken. Prince didn’t have a sound guy, he ran it himself.
“Back in those days, it was all so driven. It was, like, let’s get it done. You had to make sacrifices for your career, and then come out looking like a star. We loved it.” DeShazer attended a private memorial service at Paisley Park shortly after Prince’s death in April. On Wednesday, he joined a media tour when he returned for the first time since the recording studio and residence was reopened to the public as a museum and tribute to Prince. “Wow,” he said quietly as he entered. “Unbelievable,” he later said. “So many mixed emotions,” he added, clearly choked up. “You know, we’re all still in a fog, but this puts a stamp on it.”

I agree. He is dishonoring Prince. He should know Prince was an unifier when it comes to music. I am happy to see Sheila E and the Revolution will do music together tho because I always thought there were some tensions.

This isn't some competition. That quote was very disappointing. Hopefully, he was misquoted and he did not say that. If he did say that, let's hope that the rest of Mazarati, The Revolution and Sheila E. don't share his view. It's sad that there seems to be so much division amongst Prince's associated artists. #love4oneanother

Yeah sometimes Prince's 80s campers coming across as elitist and stuck in the past and don't care to know about Prince's input post the 80s. Okay Prince fans and others know they are talented but people wanted to see Prince. And that is very disrespectful toward the members of NPG and 3rdeyegirl and various musicians he played with. I bet the 80s campers can't play his music post-80s but the NPG and 3rdeyegirl had played his 80s stuff. If they want to be condescending then I expected them to perform his post-80s stuff in the future.
They are typical baby boomers that don't want to pass the torch to the younger generation or realising their days are numbered.

Something is off about this whole article. Mazarati released their Paisley Park record in early 1986. Paisley Park Studios was opened for business in early 1987. So they continued to rehearse at Paisley Park after signing with Motown?

I agree. I didn't like that comment either. Just do your thing, patnah (in my Prince voice). There's no need to take pot shots at other tributes. Sheesh!!

Also what does he mean when he says he was with Prince from the start? Was he with Prince at the end? To me the people who worked with him later in his career are just as important. I don't care for the comment but I am interested in finding out where and when this will happen. Now, if only Mint Condition would come, too... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

All of the groups rehearsed at the warehouse prior to the Park being build.

I am talking about Prince invited his 80s people (like Sheila E and the Time) to join with his NPG band and at Paisley Park parties. Prince was mainly a unifer and when he needed you to play he wants to see are you up for some playing as he doesn't segregate his bands by eras.

I'm aware of the old warehouse that they called Pasiley Park, but the article is focused on a visit to the current Paisley Park Studios, right?

I would love to see a gig with The Revolution, Sheila E & Mazarati, I think the point he was making is that a tour with those 3 bands would be better tribute/event than the Xcel for the fans. Being in the UK I couldn't make it to the Xcel, so hopefully if they tour US/Europe more fans will get chance to remember and enjoy.

Yes, they are. In the end the Time was an RnB band that was not going to crossover to a wider audience not because they were not talented but because pop stations do not give radio play to RnB bands. Prince knew he could only go so far with this project. You are not in the industry and I am not in the industry so we can sit back and Monday morning quarterback all day but our carreers were not on the line.

I agree, I don't think he was putting anyone else down. Just wording.
This might be the one that brings the other groups in as well ie the Time the Family (Apollonia 6 make an appearance)

It would be great if the significant bands Prince worked with/put together did a tour together.
