He may have equity in Tidal. No artist is given equity in any of those business unless they go out and buy stock in those company. I am not going to explain stock or equity Goggle is your friend.

.
My point is that just because a lot of Prince's catalog is available on Tidal doesn't mean Prince "merged with Tidal." No one here knows the details of that arrangement and shouldn't post as if they do without a cited source.
.
Prince's "arrangement with Tidal," sure. Prince's "merger with Tidal" - overstated at best, fabricated at worst.

// We will throw you a bone and admit that the word merger should not have been used🎶 however, if other artist have money in Tidal why would Prince not have equity in it as well. In addition, we know they pay a rate for streaming and may have given him some money up front just like Sportify gave a chunk of money to Sony. It is all very possible.

This will likely make a few headlines over the next few weeks given who's involved. If I were Prince, I'd see this as a perfect opportunity to piggyback off that exposure and release Phase Two of Hitnrun, which will hopefully feature Stare and Free Urself (and while I'm in dreamland, 2Y2D). If he's unwilling to properly promote his own music anymore then he should let the press attention of this concert do it for him.

I really don't understand why it matters so much that he promotes his albums to people on here. If he is happy with the results why does it bother people on here so much? I am just glad we got new music and I really don't care if he protomes it or not. He obviously has a deal over the past decade or so that works for him and he is happy with it. He has more money then he will ever need so he is not deserate for sales

It doesn't matter to me one way or another. I was just saying if it was me, that's what I would do because if I was Prince I would care about how much I sell. More sales, more money. More money = happy Emma. razz

If Prince was making music that couldnt care less about sales numbers I would agree with you. If he was out there doing his own thing, making an artistic statement, irrelevant of sales, then you would be spot on. But he just released HNR which is clearly aimed at the commercial market, a younger generation and what would seem like a desire for mass appeal. So why is it not ok for his fanbase to question why on earth he wouldnt be promoting it? I dont care about sales numbers any more than most of us here on the org, but when I see him putting out an album like HNR I have to wonder what his aim is here if it isnt about sales. Because this album isnt about Prince saying to his fanbase, look what I can do, isnt it great? It is him saying, this isnt for the hardcore, its for the clubs and radio and a new generation. And if he doesnt care about how many people hear it, then you have to wonder what the point of it is.

HNR has had a pretty rough time of it with his fanbase. Im sure Prince is aware of that. At the same time, the mass market doesnt really know about it. So what is this album? Who is it for? If Prince is happy just to take an upfront fee and not worry about sales numbers, then make music that reflects that - uncompromising. Otherwise, go for the mass appeal and back that up with a push to get it out there to fresh ears. The org has every right to question why he isnt promoting this album, because otherwise many of us are sitting here wondering why we are lumped with the burden of generating the income for it when it clearly isnt intended for the majority of us. If Prince is using his fanbase as a bargaining chip to get upfront fees, then let his art reflect its target audience. If his bargaining chip is the commerciality of the album and the new ears it will reach, then act accordingly and promote it because the fan base wont do it for you - most of us hated it. Alas, If we didnt buy HNR, no one would have. So again, why does HNR even exist?

Knowing Prince, he got paid and got stock in Tidal. That seems like his style.

Tidal is benefitting from the name "Prince" far more than he is benefitting from the name "Tidal". To have him on their roster is great for credibility (even if no one listens to the Prince stuff on there).

Prince vs. Nicki Minaj

Prince vs. Lil Wayne

Prince vs. T.I.

Someone's gonna get "disrespected".

Great - I'll throw a bone back and acknowledge that Prince is being compensated in some way by Tidal for his involvement.

I wonder if Prince will be brave and play any new songs or just play it safe and do a medley of hits. I guess the audience wont know much about either anyway. This will be Bouncy's and Jay zzzzzzzzz's party.

my guess he will play only his hits...but too much artists for a long prince show....will b more interesting what he is doing the days before and after. biggrin For the ones going...have fun...

Have they announced the time slots yet when each artist is going on? There are a couple I would like to see but not interested in watching the whole thing.

Is he still performing? He isn't on the splash page:

http://tidal.com/us/tidalx1020

Maybe he never was, I don't know. But I'd have to think he's a bigger draw than Pusha T, Vic Mensa, and about four other acts I've never heard of that are on the splash page.

This is NOT the group of performers that I would've predicted Prince to ever perform with.

The bar has been lowered quite significantly IMO.

I'm hoping he did. When I first heard about it, I just couldn't imagine him being lumped in with a bunch of other "artists" set to perform. Prince has never been known to do that type of thing. IMO, Prince is the type of artist that deserves the stage and show, all to himself.

Let's hope so because of Prince ego issues? what about the fans who bought tickets to see him?

they don't matter because they are not as popular as Prince? and Prince didn't know he was performing with some of those guys going into this?

This is Prince's way of showing he's too good for those guys and it's lame disbelief

And just how do you know this to be the reason? We don't know if he's going to perform or not, but even if he isn't, I don't think it's because of his "ego issues" as you put it. And besides, in the celeb world, who doesn't have ego issues? Prince sure as hell wouldn't be the first!
