oh jeez. I can't even speculate on his intentions. I can only comment on the consequences. lol

I'm truly tired of the "will he or won't he play" game. At this point unless it is a confirmed show I will assume he will not be there and will make my plans accordingly. If I feel like taking a chance on the nights other "entertainment" I will and if I don't, I won't. If I miss a performance, so be it.

so let's speculate - what do you think the reasoning was for playing Saturday but not Friday last week? Do you think it was spontaneous, or do you think he had intended to do it that way, with Friday kind of being like an "opener" and Saturday being the real deal? Maybe he did it just to be unpredictable after word got out of Friday's low-key event, inevitably leading to lower attendance on Saturday, kind of like a reward for the dedicated? These are the kinds of things we wondered about as we sat there Sunday morning realizing we came so close but missed him. Apparently last weekend he said something like "Paisley Park every weekend for eternity!"

Another band, called MPLS, was supposed to play last Saturday night. They had been posting about it on their facebook page since that Wednesday. Then Saturday night they posted that they had been cancelled and that Paisley Park had something else planned. Saturday was the 3rd night of these "events". Just my opinion, but I'm thinking with the amount of people showing up dwindling over the 3 nights that they thought they better do something interesting to keep people coming back. I went all 3 nights for $90 total, but I knew I wasn't being guaranteed a Prince performance. So, needlees to say, the show Saturday made it worth it. I mean, ultimately, I think people are going hoping to catch a Prince performance. No?

Speaking for myself, FUCK YES. Of course going to Paisley that first time in 2003 was fun just to see the place...but that got boring mighty quick. And for me, it's a 13 hour drive. So yes, I definitely would go only with the hopes of seeing Prince in concert, and that's just too much of a commitment for me to make without confirmation.

Does Dr. Funkenberry tweet every time he's played at one of these "performance uncertain" type of events? If so, he usually only does it very shortly in advance right?

would predictions be wrong? i can imagine prince playing an electric banjo version of sometimesitsnowsinapril, with a hokey pokey interlude. special guest: george clinton, and everyone gets to take home a purple banana or if those run out, a purple pretzel. nah, too predictable, but one things for sure, FUN.

Kind of a bummer. The reaction when they announced the movie night was sheer silence. The band that played was really good. I brought a friend who has never been to Paisley and never seen Prince. I was hoping she would get an awesome opportunity to see him live, but nope! Seems to be a bit disorganized. People are clearly coming to see Prince and that isn't guaranteed but give the people what they want! I wonder if this continues each weekend if the crowds will begin to dwindle when they hear he hasn't performed for a few weeks. I know I'll go back though just for the chance. I was there last Saturday and it was totally worth it!

Dessa would be worth the trip out there for sure. She's pretty great. If I can find that info confirmed anywhere and I'm not too tired I may make it out for that.

Of course I went to Paisley last night hoping fora Prince/Third Eye Girl prformance. Can't win em all but it was still fun. Got there about 9:20, parked in the lot, about 10 minutes later doors opened. We were ushered into the NPG Music Club Room where they were showing old "Midnight Special" videos on the screens (without the sound) weird to see Paul Anka, Olivia Newton John, Brownsville Station, the Kinks, Wolfman Jack etc. on the screen while DJ spun tunes. At 10:00 they opened doors to the big sound stage and we went in and watched Chris Lawrence? It was OK, did a cover of Daft Punk's Get Lucky plus originals etc. Kinda funky but... They played from 10 to 11... The Third Eye Girl drums were set up and Prince's keyboards so I thought that since the band was playing early later we would get..... ? Then we were brought back to the smaller room to watch Liv Warfield (from NPG, who I have seen at the Park a few times with Prince) perform on the David Letterman show. She was pretty smoking! The three Third Eye Girls stood right in front of me to watch. Then from 11:30 to 12 a female DJ (Not sure if it was DJ Rashida or someone else?) mixed the tunes and was pretty awesome. DId an especially amazing mix of Prince's Kiss with James Browns Sex machine... at Midnight the Third Eye Girls went up front and Hannah introduced some video footage from a Prince/Third Eye Girl show in Manchester, England a little over a month ago. Songs were: Let's Go Crazy, Guitar and Plectrum Electrum. After that Hannah came back and announced that the party would continue at the Chanhassen movie theater where we were all invited to see Captain America 2! People were a bit disappointed with no Prince performance but these things are you pay your money you take your chances.. I decided what the hell. I'll go to the movie. The theater was dark... but doors were open, walked in, they were giving out free popcorn and pop and then showed the film. The Third Eye Girls were there but no sighting of Prince.

A couple random notes: There was lots of food available at Paisley. Huevos Rancheros, pancakes, mac & cheese, chips, purple velvet cake etc.. reasonably priced. I didn't get any but perhaps next time.. also had T-Shirts and other merchandise for sale.

Tonight it happens again. Dessa is reported to be playing... She's pretty cool... I am assuming that if she plays Prince won't again but you never know at Paisley... Gotta see if I have the energy to do it again after just a few hours of sleep and now I'm at work all day....

From you description it appears to be still quite entertaining despite no live music.

I've got a feeling about tonight... purely speculative, but

- last week he said "see you next week"

- 3rdEye merch being on sale last night seems odd (there wasn't any last Friday, also a "movie" night)

- His drums being on stage seems odd (I don't think that was 3rdEye's gear last week when the Max Band played?)

but also:

- Dessa will absolutely be performing tonight, tweeted about how she's at the mall buying an outfit, and flew in to make the performance. Would it be possible that she's up at 10:30ish, and Prince goes up at midnight? Or would he be the only performer if he were to play?

Currently I think our plan is to just chill at my house with Funkenberry and 3rdEye twitters on notification to my phone, and if they tweet something suggesting a performance will happen then we'll motor over and be there in 20 minutes. Nothing against the fun of Paisley, I love it, but my friends with cars are not quite as obsessive fans and feel a little salty about not seeing him play last friday, so they're only compelled to give me a ride if we know he'll play.

Did anyone else think it was interesting how they announced after we watched Liv Warfield and danced awhile longer that they were going to bring us back into the big room again for "some more party"? That's why I think everyone was so shocked when they announced the movie. I felt bad that there was no response but I think with the fact that the band finished so early and seemed to be in a big rush to get off of the main stage and that they WERE planning to bring us back in that people really thought Prince would play.
I'm trying to decide if I want to come back tonight. I might do the same and keep an eye on the Dr tweets.

Yea... the guy did say we would go in the other room and watch liv and then come back in here for more party.... so wonder if it was a last minute mood change and he didn't want to play cause crowd was too small or some other reason or ??
