Yeah. It's called jealousy. At its ugliest.

You know what fluxie sweetie, I have been to a shitload of Prince concerts over the years. Some good, most great, one or two not as good as he's able to deliver. In 2007 I enjoyed 19 out of the 21 nights, after shows in each and every one. Met him twice and I completely respect his artistry. Prince is a musical genius and I love him. However, when it comes to his performances, every fan is entitled to an opinion, and I know when I see coldness and marketing and I know when I see true emotion. Sunday - pure marketing. I think the fact that this tour has turned into a press/media tour backs me up. I've seen lots of moments of great emotionality over the years. When he played guitar to Amy's Love is a Losing Game with her singing her heart out on the last night it beat everything. Hair on my arms stood up, and I get chills when I think of it. His guitar for that one song blew everything else out of the water. Guitar is my favourite..
To completely change the subject... Prince was talking about emotional ejaculate in I Like it There on Sunday night... If he can do that, why can't he sing Pussy Control?

Just in the centre mate loads of places to loiter In manchester, around oxford road and that would be best. If its not tickets we could arrange a meet up or something with the guys from here somewhere central and possibly close to a taxi rank lol

Would be up 4 that 2, will be like O2 all over again. @ least if we're all together 1 of us will here the announcement immediately and we can lol head over to the venue ASAP

Like the sound of that & appreciate the offer to meet up.

I'm staying at the Jurys & know Manchester a bit, so should find you easily enough. Probably won't get up until about 4pm Friday, but if it's anything like tonight should be plenty of time!!

Defoe up for meeting other purple hippies - coming over from Preston (u knows it) so debating car and sleep in it or train and hotel for dumping bag and wifi etc. there's a travel lodge at the top of Oldham Street innit? Man, I'm getting a semi again! Jah work. Hopefully.

theres loads of Travelodges over town cheap enough, hopefully we'll get some notice of venue (maybe not contracted yet but provisionally held which could be why they havent said where), praying for tickets, as much as i wont mind standing in a line for 5 or so hours, If im paying £70 to get in id want it kept to a minimum. I might have a call round a couple of venues in work monday that i deal with usually and make up some fake event enquires to see if they have anything in.

My 1st ever gig was Prince at th NEC in 1995. He played P Control then. What a way to be introduced to live music!

Just had dinner after seeing first Kings Cross show. Great show and brilliant to see a change of pace with acoustic set. Take Me with U, Raspberry Beret, U Got The Look, Funk Rock n Roll, Crimson and Clover.... and mini q and a and rock set including Guitar.....( ok I am not the person for the set list! - a lot of jamming and instrumentals were played).

Lovely venue.

4 UK gigs confirmed by Hannah before show started.

Sunday 16th February at Camden Koko

Monday 17th February at Ronnie Scott's

Friday 21st/Saturday 22nd in Manchester

Brilliant atmosphere and genuinely impressive to see Prince jam acoustically.

Sorry, you are wrong on this one. Sure its an opinion, but an uniformed one as you weren't there. Sunday was not a marketing performance. I've seen Prince live over 200 times. I've seen him in a good mood, bad mood, rushed, interested or complacent. I know when he is going through the motions. Sunday was off the scale.

An awful lot of hardcore fans where there on Sunday and seem in unviversal agreement. The Sept 21st 2007 was a great one. Sunday was better.

You're so right & have put everything into context for me...

With risk of abuse, he has got quite 'lazy' last couple of years, all about pulling the funk faces & guitar runs. I saw this last year at Montreux (which without doubt was an incredible 'experience'), but didn't show the almost posessed emotional playing of the past.

I was also at the 21st Sept aftershow & have just listened to Love is a Losing Game again & makes you remember just how natural it all was, the Hendrix tune Villanova Junction from about 4am was also just mind-blowing.

Although I am jealous I have not been lucky enough to get into the gigs last week or so, I've been lucky enough to have been front row at 3rd Eye Girl in Montreux & heard just how hard they rock.

Have to get my fix this week again though & just ashame that nothing with Prince is straightforward...

Just back from 2nd show at Kings Palace, about a 75 minute show for £70. Shepherds Bush was a full on gig and much better value at only £10....

They confirmed for Sunday at KOKO and Monday at Ronnie Scott's...and then Friday and Saturday in Manchester at "The Manchester", quoting Hannah. She said they will play Brixton Academy but didn't have a date for that yet, and she went on to say "that's what we have for now", so can imagine something else might be in the works as well... Don't know if my feet will support another long queue!

Good grief, I don't care about a difference of opinion, I know that when I say Sundays show wasn't the best IMO most people will disagree but it's a forum... Up for discussion, right?

Considering I'm on 30+ shows and my first one was Koko in 2007 I'm guessing 200 shows is very possible.

Sunday was insane. I don't care what anyone says he was not going through the motions.

Just got in from the first gig at Kings Place, was great seeing an acoustic set. I'm probs not the best person to ask about the set because I'm still floating far too high. Hoping to catch one more show before they are over.

No offense but after 21 nights (plus aftershows) most of us are +30 shows. Take that to over 200 though is a very different ball game. To me it sounds incredulous but hey if he managed it somehow, more power to him.

What did you think of tonight's gig? Was it short or satisfactory? I know the intimacy was probably great, but leaving that aside? Good? Great?

I know people that have been more times that me! (I think the likes of Udo and Unique could probably top me).

Mine, all Uk Parade shows, 6 mainland Europe SOTTs, all but one UK Lovesexy's, 4 Euro lovesexy, 19 Nude shows, christ, the list is endless. All UK aftershows (except indigo, did nine of those, plus 11 main shows). All the UK D&Ps, Act IIs, Gold, NPS, ONA, some 30 odd 90's Shows in Mainland Europe and Ireland, 20+ in the US.

Its not hard to get to big numbers if you've been going long enough.

As for EnglishGent, I did meet, him, he obviously doesn't remember. Not going to loose any sleep over it! biggrin

His guitar for that one song blew everything else out of the water. Guitar is my favourite.. To completely change the subject... Prince was talking about emotional ejaculate in I Like it There on Sunday night... If he can do that, why can't he sing Pussy Control?

Barbara darling - had I known you'd been to so many shows (and actually met him, so you must like REALLY know him compared to the plebs front of house), which obviously qualifies you as such an expert that you are able to supercede opinions from those who actually attended the event in question, I wouldn't have dared open my mouth. neutral

I mean, you go to such a high percentage of shows availalble on a tour, it can't possibly be eating you that you missed any of these ones, eh? You must have had your fill.

You might know when you've seen "true emotion", but then, you didn't actually see it, did you?

Anyway, as mentioned previously in the thread, I'm shortly off to the airport for a well-earned holiday. Look forward to catching up what's been going in 10 days time smile

...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...
