If I see you, I'm gonna give you a BIG Italian KISS!!
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

(I swear that I had proper spacing but this is how it came out when posted, hope it's not too tough to read)

Just getting home now and since no one has posted about the first show, thought I’d put something up for the curious. The 8:00 show started about 20 minutes late so that’s considered on time in the Prince world. First song was a new one and I have no idea what it’s called. I have to imagine that Prince was on the piano since the curtains were closed for the entire song. It was a slow ballad type of song. Once he finished it the curtains opened up about a minute later with the beginning of LGC. Prince was once again sitting in front of the drum kit surveying his minions before he strutted to the microphone.

This show in general seemed to have more energy than last night’s 8:00. Off the top of my head he played 2Y2D, Sometimes it snows in April, Purple Rain, Plectrum Electrum, Cause and Effect (which I found the lyrics interesting), Guitar, Screwdriver, Endorphine Machine, Bambi, and She’s Always in my Hair.

He did take about 15 minutes to come out for the encore which was about 10 minutes too long. I’m going to start leaving work an hour early and if I don’t get a few phone calls to come back, I’ll just stay home. The encore opened up with the sampler set but much shorter than the night before. During the wait for the encore Joshua (I believe it’s Donna’s brother) picked out people from the pit to dance on stage, that also extended the wait. When Doves Cry was partially played along with the snippet of Nasty Girl, Pop Life, Sign of the Times, Housequake and maybe one or two more. The night ended with a sing-a-long of Play that funky music white boy.

All said and done it was a pretty good show. There seemed to be some sound issues as well. Hannah’s guitar was turned up too loud while Prince’s was too low. Not sure how long the actual show really lasted but I’m sure someone else will post that within the next 24 hours. Gotta say that it didn’t seem well organized. The whole “VIP pit” situation is really ticking off people. Prince’s core following are feeling ignored again and with good reason. When people who waited 4-6 hours in line are behind people who just randomly got chosen, it’s not a good thing. I got lucky the first night but it’s just wrong.

Talking with another Org member at the show and she made a good point. Prince’s crew is all new and everyone that’s been around him for the last 10 years is gone. It would be nice to have that continuity of relationships that many of us had with the old crew. The new “roadies” could really care less about the fans who have been with Prince over 30 years and it’s unfortunate. It’s after midnight and I’m tired so I won’t write much on the negative aspects of this little tour.

Again, seeing old friends and making new ones is one of the best parts of the Prince community. Chris, great seeing you again old friend. Kim, stay in touch-I missed talking with you. Dave, great guy and thanks for letting us know what you’re going to wear so we can pick you out of the crowd. Wish we could have talked more. Soloman’s Dad and mom from Canada, I hope you guys enjoyed the second night relaxing back there. Jeremy, love seeing you man-it wouldn’t be a Prince concert if I didn’t see you there. Carrie, loved the purple tonight and it was cool seeing you again. Heidi, Happy Early Birthday. Can’t think of your name girl who sent me the pic tonight, it was great seeing that you got in the pit. You put in the long hours and deserved it! Oscar!! Awesome running into you on my way out, wish we could have spent more time catching up…So many great people that I got too see this time around…You guys are a big part of the Prince Experience. We have some dysfunctional members in the family but that’s the Princely life that we chose to join. Good night and God bless~ Wishuhvn…

We had a GREAT time at the late show tonight. I debated trying to get up front then decided nooooo. Bought new tickets, second row center balcony. The house was fuller than last night.

Shit was rockin'!

Observations ...the lighting sucked. Blinding strobe lights. Long periods of time with the lights off on stage. It got really still & quiet during the new songs. REAL quiet.

I like the new stuff live (what I heard of it). Screwdriver is catchy, which is seriously annoying because I still hate the hook.

All in all, I'm so happy I went! All the shit that flies..new songs I'm not feeling, lawsuits, 3rdeyegirl concept meh. It's been too long between Prince fixes. It feels good.
I'm firmly planted in denial

Anyone know if there was an Aftershow in Vegas? After 2 shows a night I was pretty pooped! smile While the last show was disappointingly short (80 mins) and the vibe in the tables area not as good as on the floor, it was still an awseme show! The show also felt really rushed, liked he had to end at a set time and because they started so late he wasn't as playful, nor did as many jams as the other 3. I mean Crimson and Clover! Here's the set list for both shows, Can someone let me know the name of a couple of the new songs?

Sat 8pm

New Slow Song (Weird, unexpected way to Open)

Let's Go Crazy

Endorphin Machine

Screwdriver

She's Always In My Hair

Sometimes It Snows In April

Purple Rain

Guitar

Plectum Elektra

Fix Ur Life Up

Bambi

New Song - 2Y2D (2 Young 2 Dare)

Sign of the Times

When Doves Cry

Dance Medly Section (At least 2 minutes on each)

Nasty Girl Snippit

Love Bazaar

Pop Life

I Would Die for You

Encore

Play That Funky Music

Sat - 11:30

Let's Go Crazy

Endorphine Machine

Screwdriver

She's Always In My Hair

Purple Rain (no build up like in the past, just jumped into it which added to the rush feel of the show)

Sign of the Times

Alphabet Street

Play That Funky Music (AWESOME!)

New Song - At first I thought it was Plecto with Lyrics, sound almost exactly the same, but when he played it later, I'm assuming this was something Different.

Sometimes it Snows in April (was in heaven)

How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore

Dance Medly - he really should release this for DJs! While a lot of people complain, he gives each song a good 2 minutes at least and Hot Thang was about 7 minutes while they got the dancers on stage.

Hot Thang

Nasty Girl (Snippitt - That is still an amazingly, funky drum beat!)

Love Bazaar

House Quake

I would Die 4 U

Mr. Goodnight (Amazing, fun, surprising way to end a concert!)

Encore 1

New Song - I Like the Nightlife?

Crimson and Clover

Plectum Elektro

Let me just say that Prince is the greatest entertainer of all time! Both shows were amazing last night. He is so incredibly talented and such a genius. I love how he interacts with the audience. The way he played bass on Alphabet St was smokin' hott! His voice is very strong & beautiful and his guitar performance was outta this world. 3rdeyegirl rocks! Prince please don't stay away from Vegas so long next time. Come back and do another residency. We love u!!

Thanks to Wishuhvn for getting us rolling on night two early show. And for the kind wishes.

We did hang back by the light board and it was a different experience than night one. I agree there was more energy in the crowd. It was packed and there was a buzz. Interesting - I thought the sound was better halfway back than crammed at the front and obviously I had a much better perspective on the light show. Which I think produces quite a dramatic effect.

The opener, Down or Breakdown, was cool. Slow and ominous. Better than 2Y2D in the "I have never heard this song" category. Cause and Effect truly rocked and as Orgers in other cities have said, it really works live even for folks who have never heard it.

The I did not see that coming award goes to the closer, Play that Funky Music.....I have heard him do it before, but it always gets the crowd going.

I regret not getting Let's Go, Crimson and Clover and HotThing (sampler, I assume) in show two, but you can't always get every Prince song you want.

I note Wishuhvn's comments about the new crew, but I will let you know that Solomon's mom was allowed to stand and dance in the Lighting crew pen.....they were cool with letting the short lady in.

Overall really happy for the two night Prince in Vegas experience. Highlights were meeting Wishuhvn and dsapp.....there are some cool, special people in our community. I repeat that if you ever find your way to Toronto, we will get together and compare our latest Prince notes.

Every time we see Prince, we dissect the shows, the song choices, the band, his mood.....but we do share the communal superiority of recognizing his Mozart like genius (for at least a fifteen year run) in our modern pop life and exquistive, and ongoing, musical craftsmanship. The non-Orgers will never get that. Too bad for them.

Later, y'all.

Thanks for sharing the review and the set list.

I´m european and I can´t afford to go to the shows so all of you are my ears and eyes there.

Can anybody let me know the lyrics of new song "Down"?What´s about it?

My english is not very fluent so it´s difficult for me to know the lyrics.

Thanks again and have a great time, muuuuaaakkk!

My observations:
The Good
- I love the band concept. Best set since Montreaux and One Nite Alone. The casual fan friendly tours do not excite me anymore.
- Let's Go Crazy and She's Always in My Hair are the highlights of the show. I normally despise Let's Go Crazy but 3rdEyeGirl kills it. Best version of Shes always in my hair to date.
- The first show on Saturday was clearly the best of the four. I loved the way he opened the show with Down and hid behind the keyboards and then closed the curtains and did Let's Go Crazy.
- The other highlights include Liatech, Plectrum Electrum and Endorphine Machine.
- Great to see him without so much makeup and looking like a grown man.
- The band is better than people give them credit for.

Minor Criticisms:
- I like hearing a different version of Purple Rain, but this version is uninspiring. If he wants to do it from the piano then he needs to play it by himself like he did in the actual movie after Francis L shot himself. It is hard to take the wind out of that song, but this version is pretty uninspired and that is hard to do.
- I love the Sign of the Times portion of the sampler set. The rest of it is tolerable but it really does not fit with this show. You cannot see him during the set and we dont want to see old folks dancing on the stage for 10 of the 90 minutes.
- The lighting is terrible. He likes the lights off, but fans hate that. The keyboards need to be somewhere else because you cant see him whenever he is on them and he spends 1/3 of the show on the keys.
- Let's Work needs to grow on me because it doesnt seem to work with this band. That song is pure funk and he tries to split the baby and it doesnt work for me.
- The dude with the cowbell on Bambi is unnecessary. The band is supposed to be stripped down. Keep it that way, but I am nitpicking.

I thought the 8 PM show sucked hard. I have never been dissapointed with a Prince concert, but it was just a drag. Most of the new songs are god awful besides Plectrum Electrum, which gets a pass because it is spared embarrasing lyrics like the other generic pop-rockers in the rotation. Getting to see Endorphinmachine, Sometimes It Snows In April, and Bambi played made it worth it though.

I considered not going to the second show knowing the set would most likely be similar, and the person I was with exchanged dismayed looks with me as it appeared to be just that. Then Prince kicked in the shit and turned the house inside out. The second show was where it was at, THAT is what I have come to expect from seeing Prince live. He was way livelier, more playful, and changed up the setlist consoderably.

Not sure it was worth driving all the way to Vegas for (got gyped out of the horribly handled SF shows), and I didn't much care for the venue itself, but the two shows taken together resulted in me getting to see him perform some obscure material I never thought I'd get to see. I mean holy shit, full Alphabet St, Hot Thing, and Housequake, among the other aformentioned songs.

The new version of Let's Go Crazy is god awful though. Not digging it. The new stuff sucks too.

Oh, and what was with that slow burn with the house lights up, only to finally send everyone packing twenty minutes later? That left a pretty sour taste on an otherwise fantastic end to the Vegas shows. The crowd was hyped for one more encore and he knew it. What the heck happened there?
