For the stans talking about how they like when Prince does covers (P could shit on stage and the stans would say they love it rolleyes ), I bought a Prince concert ticket expecting to hear Prince songs, not a bunch of stupid cover songs. If I want to hear other people's songs, I'll go to their concerts or listen to a dime a dozen cover band. And you stans are missing the point - Prince does that tired line about "I got too many hits!", yet he's wastes time singing other peoples' songs. Well maybe if he didn't waste setlist time singing all this cover bullshit, he'd be able to sing his hits. Common sense. err

Of the several people I met at the show, EVERY SINGLE ONE of them felt the same way. From the people sitting around me to the people I heard talking in passing as we all walked from the arena to the parking lot, they were ALL pissed and talked about how messed up it all was.

Well he just started performing in the states again and I really don't think there's any way he can end this Welcome 2 America thing without stopping by Minneapolis...so he should be there sooner or later right? I freaking love roadtrips!! And I've never been to Detroit but if he ever decides to go there COUNT ME IN cool Actually come to think of it Vegas sounds pretty cool too as long as he does it during weekends lol

I hope so much it's sooner than later that his homies will be ble to see the show. A couple of days ago, my grandson 6yrs said i sure wish Prince would have a party! I said 'me too!' He's been asking since he was 4yrs but just got the okay from his Dad and Mom a couple of months ago.

I know some don't like the idea of children going to the shows. I understand but at the same time every kid is different and I'd never allow anyone's enjoyment to be stifled.. nod woot! dancing jig

awww that's sooo adorable mushy I actually agree with you, I don't mind ppl bring their kids to the show...whoever enjoys P's music should come and join the party woot! That's what P intended this W2A shows to be like anyways!

The best way for him to answer the criticism would be to put out an official DVD of the second and/or third shows.

I don't mind a couple of covers... but I totally agree with you on the back ground singers.. I am sick of Shelby and Andy.. and all the other chicks.. give them a rest...

most people are paying to see Prince..

It would be SOO nice tho- to see/hear him do a few shows with some of the less done music. He teased a few songs in his Piano medley.. but my gosh.. to hear some stuff off the Emancipation CD or the prince Cd or gosh any of those in that era would be SLAMMIN'... I do love his older stuff.. but I am so sick of hearing Purple rain, 1999 ,Lets go crazy.
How about ending a show with GOLD???

I saw 5 shows and an aftershow in Aussie, and while I had a ball and enjoyed them all - I wouldn't fly over again for the same shows...I think a lot of the states and europe fans feel the same...

Prince has been playing 'the hits shows' for the last 9, almost 10 years...which is strange considering that in 2003 he started with the whole 'playing the hits for the last time' in Australia...then he did that in 2004 with the musicology tour....and then again in London at the O2 in 2007 he ran with the same tagline to sell out 21 shows.....

ever since then he's dropped the tagline and, 5 years later, he's still playing pretty much the same style of shows - which would be understandable if he hadn't released any new music...

but since then we've had Musicology/3121/Planet Earth/Lotusflo3r/MPLSound/2010...not to mention all the other downloads.....

So is he just sick of the game and just taking in the easy money?

Is he comfortable that he has nothing else to prove?

Has he lost faith in his new material?

Too busy studying the bible?

Too busy 'over-managing' his protegees

Too busy managing the 'business side of things' instead of concentrating on his music?

Or is he just waiting....keeping his bank account topped up until the right moment?

I would hope it's the last option above - but if he leaves it much longer I fear when he does do something 'incredible' it'll go pretty much unnoticed...

I traveled to new York from new Orleans last December and while I think the show was good, I'm dying for some more obscure songs. I know he has to play the hits but you can sneak in a lot .I say start from for u all the way down. Just pick one from each album that he hasn't played in a looong time.
Otherwise New Orleans is q great choice for next stop.
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Surely the Welcome 2 series is close to an end! Possibly a run of shows in 1 more state, but then that's it. A new cd and tour with songs from the new cd, mixed with hits and rare fan favorites.

I remember Santana once said that his dream was to get to the point where people would come just to hear him play and to have the freedom to play what he wanted. That is my dream for Prince as well. He is too talented to constantly be confined to the limited wishlists of some of his fans. I undertand it is a give and take, but man give him a break. As long as he gives you some of what you want can he at least do some of what he wants?

Santana and Prince can both decide for themselves what they want to play, right?

And if they want to have a life style that costs so much, they still need to make big bugs from the big audiances, they have to play according the musical taste of big audiances.

If Prince or Santana decide they have enough money to live comfortable and don't need extreme luxury to be happy, thán they can play whatever they want, at small clubs, and don't have to care about the opinion of the audiance. They can just play whatever they want.

Prince wants to make the money, so he plays his hits for the large audiances. Because that is what they want to hear.

The little money I have, will not go to another Prince stadion concert as far as I'm concerned.

However, I would be able to pay for a small club (regular concert prices, not Prince his outrageous 100,- euro) and just enjoy whatever he feels like playing. I would love to listen to him, not being stressed about anybodies opinion, just playing whatever he feels like.

However, I don't think Prince would ever think he's earned enough.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I hope and wish that P would go back to the ONA type of tour, smaller venues, more intimate and a chance to play to real fans, not people that are happy to hear him him roll out the 'hits' again.
AND ON THE 7TH DAY OF THE 6TH MONTH..GOD CREATED FUNK!!!

Have him go back to the Park please!

Do some shows at the park. Every other weekend or so.

Do some new stuff, maybe some old stuff.

Do this until early March.

Then do some shows in the USA.

Start with smaller venues, from late May on you do bigger venues.

After the summer you visit Europe to do a quick tour.

Hockey season is cancelled! Come to the Joe! Joe Louis Arena needs the revenue for the city, and it would be a huge morale booster in Detroit. If Prince is all about Rebuilding the Dream - I can't think of a better city to stop at than Detroit. Detroit would show their purple love.

Hmyes, do so with cheaper tickets. $31.21? $20.12?

And do a hits shows AND a more 'different' show to show them the real P. (as on NSJ 2011)

I vote for One Night Alone Part Deux. I agree with most of you, the hits show are cool but the gem he gave us with ONA was for the ages. I would take another Vegas stint if its like the Palm shows. I do believe that there are enough of the masses out there who aren't hard core that he could keep doing his current set city to city state to state for years!
