End of the "Welcome 2..." era?

With the Symbol stage having been used regularly for 5 years now...I wonder if the whole "Welcome 2 ..." format is at an end with the completion of the Aussie tour? Do you think Prince will continue to use the Symbol stage for any other tour themes, stay in the round with a different stage or revert back to a traditional stage format from here on?

I guess what I am speculating is:

* Is the "Welcome 2 ..." theme finished?

* Will the Symbol stage be retired?

Prince will never be allowed to play mainland China -- at least not on terms he would accept.

Which is a shame.

Why? What would the Chinese expect him to agree to?

Hey just curious because I grew up there but does anyone know if he's ever played Mexico city? Or anywhere in Mexico? Concerts over there were crazy, I slept outside many a venue with thousands of others just to get tickets or a good place! But he definitely never had played before 96 when I left!

He would have to submit a fixed set list for each night to the Ministry of Culture, who would vet it for inappropriate content. So no Little Red Corvette, DMSR, U Got The Look, The Ladder,

Given the likelihood that he would then go on and ignore the set lists, I would be very surprised if he were given permission to perform.

On top of that there is the issue that he isn't famous in China at all, which would make any tour on a W2A scale difficult financially. A one-off concert might work.

has anyone given any serious consideration to the fams organzing their own tour? of australia?

like 5 nights in one venue and i'm confident that we would all pay something like $1000 and if there were 10,000 fams thats $10m income, which I'm guessing would be close to his fee + all costs?

or 5000 fams paying $2000

Exactly - having seen him live for the first time in Australia this W2A tour - it was enthralling and exciting - nothing stale there - I would go to every one if I could !!

After seeing all the Melbourne and Brisbane arena shows plus Eaton Hill after Show, I did find I got bored listening to the sampler set at the last concert and a few of the songs played at each venue.

The "Welcome 2..." shows I think would be good to see in Asia if he went there, but I would hope there were more different songs each night.

I personally loved the 2nd night in Melbourne and others loved the 3rd night, though nothing will beat Eaton Hill for me.

Prince mentioned in Sydney apparently he wants to play at Sydney Opera House one day.

Now Prince and a piano with an orchestra in that venue would be something I would travel the world to see.

Most artists travel around the world playing exactly the same setlist every night. The degree to which Prince changes up his set every night, by comparison, is staggering - especially for an artist as famous as he is. If you were seeing almost any other artist who plays that sort of venue - be it young'uns like Rihanna or Beyonce or Prince's peers like Madonna, they'd be playing the exact same songs in the exact same order with the exact same routines at every single gig you went to.

I think a lot of Prince's fans take for granted just how good he is - which is easy to do when you're seeing him night after night. But it is a bit mad, when you think about it: moaning about the handful of similarities between gigs when the reality is that he changes up his setlist night to night more than pretty much any other artist of his stature in the world.

The fans complain that he's not playing enough B-sides or that he's not changing up the setlist enough - but they're lucky he's playing any B-sides or changing the setlist at all when he's playing these arena gigs, because most of the audience is not going to consist of die-hards. A lot of casual fans complained about the 21 Nights gigs - too many jams and not enough hits.
