I think it's really unfortunate of what happen. Reading this thread I can't help but feel bad for Prince. Everybody doesn't handle situations the same way. I have to say; his bodyguards are horrible. Lol. They do a great job at reminding people to not take pictures or videos. Yet when it comes to personal contact they can do way better. An incident like this happen in 06'. I think Prince realized he did not want to go through it after the effect was realized to him. Sorry it ended this way; but I am pretty sure Prince loves Australia and won't let this incident dictate his view on Australia at all! smile

So many words wasted on a tabloid report, this is how this type of reporting thrives. People who were actually there didnt know what happened, therefore the paper can just make any ole' thing up and it's sold as inside gossip to the majority that werent there. No one can refute the story, even people that were there, and on the other side there's no onus to the paper to prove anything with sources. Prince couldnt care less what was in written in that report since it is not defamotory in any way.

Looking at the few facts available DJ Rashida only talked about a party. The price was a mere $25, (yes I know he did $10 Thursday nights at the LA forum). Im more inclined to think that there was never going to be any show.

People dont have to fret about him not coming back, if that $A stays up, he'll be coming back to OZ a lot sooner than in another 10 years.

Glad that most people had such a great time at the shows.

Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.

Glad Prince had sense enough to high tail it out that disrespectful place. This is why he has a love & hate relationship with his fans. Hope this doesn't stop him from doing aftershows. I mean the reason he did them was 4 his unappreciative psycho fans(excluding me) giggle .....

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Hey guys.

My first post on here. Signed up after having been an appreciative but not "hardcore" Prince fan for the last few years.

I was at the HiFi after party in Melbourne and wanted to share my thoughts on the evening. Just been waiting for my profile to allow me to post!

I went to the 14th May gig (amazing) and the 30th May gig (was just blown away). At the end of the 30th gig, my mate and I high-tailed it to Hi-Fi bar and got a good enough spot in the queue - so we ended up getting in. We were incredibly excited and were even more pumped when we saw the crowd getting into the tracks being played. This was going to be a party.

We decided to stand right in front of the sound booth / DJ deck - figured no one could stand behind us and we got a good view of the stage

Now, we were well aware that Prince may not have been going to play. It was announced as an arter party rather than show or a "secret gig" and it was only 25 bucks. But once we saw John Blackwell and Cassandra sound checking their equipment on stage, well, we thought, "it's on!". Plus, there were the correct number of mikes set up to accommodate a short lead singer and a bunch of back up singers.

So more waiting around. The crowd seemed to be getting a little impatient (not as into dancing as an hour previous). Then the support act came out to do a few tunes - funky, but too laid back, which lead to a drop in the vibe in the venue, and the first sense of people getting frustrated.

Then we see Damaris wandering around the crowd - well, at least we knew we were in the right place! Then Rashida comes down and starts her set. More dancing.

The suddenly Damaris walks past us with a little guy. It was Prince. He stepped on my foot! And he walks into the sound booth / DJ deck and hangs there for 20-30 mins. We're 1-2 meters away from Prince and just groovin to the tunes. And here's where the problems begin.

People are pushing in behind us as hard as they can to get us out of the way so they can take photos (cameras, iPhones, video). We stand our ground and continue to get into the music -(and not take photos) and just enjoy being next to Prince. People keep taking photos despite Damaris politely and repeatedly asking them not to.

Anyway, Prince heads back up stairs - I get a high five as he leaves. And Rashida continues her set.

But by now most of the crowd had ceased dancing and being in a party mood. It turned into a Prince spotting night. People who just wanted to go to work in the morning and say, "I hung out with Prince - check out the photos!".

It gets to around 4am. Everyone is tired. One of my mates had been queuing since 8pm. We decided to grab a drink (the second of the night) with the plan to leave if nothing else happens - bearing in mind the stage is still all set up.

We finish our drink. About to leave. And Prince reappears! We see him walk around the room with security - he looks happy. Then we see some sort of a kerfuffle. Didn't see what happened, but a minute later Prince and his security are heading back upstairs - and quickly. Prince did not look happy.

Then we hear that Prince has left.

It was a disappointing end to the night. Even though we knew Prince may not have been planning to play initially, it certainly seemed like he (or at least the NPG) would once we saw the stage set up. But getting to dance next to him was a great experience. Ultimately the night was ruined - not because he didn't play - but because someone in the room obviously did something to piss him off and likely leave a bad memory of Melbourne/Australia for him.

Overall the room wasn't filled with drunk bogans. But I guess you only need one to ruin the night.

At the end of the day/night, I think if the whole room just treated the night as a party (and less like a Prince spotting opportunity) then I think it would have been an unforgettable night.

Guess I'll just have to wait till next time.
