New Zealand tour maybe on the cards after Aus ... PLEASE LET THIS BE TRUE

Is Prince coming to New Zealand after all?

Rumours are spreading that legendary musician Prince is going to perform in New Zealand - possibly within the next few weeks.

The Purple Rain singer is currently touring Australia, where he is playing sold out shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

New Zealand fans were left disappointed when his Down Under tour dates were announced with no New Zealand shows on the bill. He hasn't performed here before.

But NZ Herald's TimeOut section this morning sparked rumours that at least one New Zealand headlining show could be announced in the near future.

"(We're rumouring) the possibility of Prince doing some New Zealand shows off the back of his Australian tour, which - considering he is playing across the ditch at present - means it could all happen very quickly indeed," said the brief.

The column has previously rumoured concerts by The Black Keys and Coldplay - both of which came true.

Prince's last Australian show is in Melbourne on May 30. Promoters couldn't be contacted for comment.

Reviews of his Australian shows have been mixed, with a Sydney Morning Herald critic saying that despite "flashes of brilliance" the show felt a bit like karaoke.

But the Daily Telegraph's Kathy McCabe said Prince was at his "funktastic best".

"He was ably backed by a band and chorus of sexy mammas, they brought as much of the sexy mofo magic as his Royal Purpleness," wrote McCabe.

"They brought the hits and so many of them - Cream, Nothing Compares to You, a searing jam of

Can't Stop Till You Get Enough, Raspberry Beret, Take Me With You and When Doves Cry."

I hope it's true for all your sake. The shows have a lot of energy, he's in good form.

Last night I went to see New Zealand band Opossum here in Sydney (Bic Runga, Kodi Nielson, Michael Logie). I was talking to Michael afterwards and mentioned I'd seen Prince this week and he said he worked with someone that had worked with Prince and had some fun stories - and one was that he hates to plan ahead too far. He wants to be able to decide if a live show is on or off with really short notice, and has it in his contract that a show can be cancelled anything up to 3 weeks before so that he can be flexible. Hopefully that means that now he's here he will squeeze in an Auckland show.

U know u r so right, who do we get now

I think of people like the Moody Blues, Little River Band, Dennis La Corrierre or whatever his name is from Dr Hook and in the 90s Boney M came like 5 times.

Its always some group or singer that you think "Oh my God are they still alive?"

That shite tabloid non journalistic shonkbag rag the herald are now saying it was looked at but we don't have an appropriate venue. Vector too small for the stage as it would limit the capacity too much pushing ticket costs too high.

Leave the stage in aus and do a standard set up.

Anyway. I'm
Making inquiries about getting Purple Rain screened at a cinema for an
As yet undecided kids charity.
Expressions if interest?

Maybe its a long shot, thats only like 90% not happening, he could as you say ditch the stage (I thought it would be too expensive to transport for one show anyway).

Its the truth, New Zealand just does not have suitable indoor venues and if we do they are reserved for thugby and fleague games. I also know Western Springs is out of the question as in June, its usually a mud bath and weather statistics point to June in Auckland having an average of 20 out of 30 days of rain, so theres only 1/3 chance of it not raining, its is not overly cold (Average high 16, low 9) but add on 89% humidity and a 5.11pm sunset and you get one depressing venue.

Prices too would be an issue if the cheapest seat was $99 in Oz, figure with profit margins a $149 cheapest here and more likely $249 for the general seats (I remember Elton John at the Vector arena) - $388 a seat.

Other candidates could include Dunedins new stadium, the venue is big enough its indoors and the Dunedin City Council and Otago Rugby Union could make some serious $$$$$ out of it.

Also the cake tin in Wellington (Although again you are dicing with the weather. Air NZ could put on a purple flight to get Prince fans down from Auckland and Wellington and of course some of our Aussie mates (Toejam, Zombie Kitten etc) would probably make a special journey across the ditch. I think thats a great idea.

Lust I have already responded to your claims on FB.

Doooooooooooo iiiiiiiiiittttttt.

We bought tickets for the 30th the day after our first concert on the 14th. You know the 30th will be the best one of the tour with it being the last. I'm hoping there will be an after show as well.

I read that it was apparently sold out? If not - Better make up your mind before it does nod

I asked DJ Rashida on twitter if there's an aftershow happening & she told me to 'stay tuned' which is (hopefully) an obvious yes pray

I went to the first 5 shows and the Hi Fi aftershow in Brisbane...if he comes to NZ I don't think 1)I'll get time off work and 2) I don't have the $$ now.....after witnessing that much funk...and the awesome aftershow...I don't mind now if I miss him here ....I doubt it'll happen, but with Prince you just never know

I am kind of glad I went to see my show in Australia, but even if he came here, I would definitely go just for the novelty of it being his first kiwi show. There was a rumour he was going to come at the Millenium to a cancelled festival in Gisborne, but by Oct 99 he had pulled out and they announced David Bowie instead, but he also pulled out and it never went ahead.

But the concert I saw was just that good, I would eagerly go again as it would be more affordable and convenient, Plus I could wear my Prince stuff.

Seriously guys if we want a show here, we need to support it.

Everytime I say something, you say its wrong or pick on me because I am not 100% accurate. Example, my show report on the May 15 thread in Concerts, soon as I post it, you say oh you got this wrong and that wrong.

How about thanks for typing it, instead you sit on your ass and criticise.

There was a couple of mistakes (Excuse me for not knowing the set list of every Public enemy song, I was only 13 when it came out) and missing out a couple of songs and getting a song name wrong, why not take me out to the firing range now and shoot me. Its bloody hard to write and dance. I don't have a modern photo phone or a tweeter like everyone else. I am poor I try my hardest, so get off my damn case!!!!!!!

Also mr accurate, its is spelled Gisborne not Gisbourne!!!

And you bold everything up like its aggressive, that my friend is trolling.

Now you know how it feels!!!
