Yeah, I didn't really get that part...from a guy that doesn't really do anything to promote his stuff or get it on the radio. Now he wants to occupy it?

Hey all,

I thought I'd give my review of the concert. It doesn't look like anyone has yet. P was a little late. The concert was supposed to start at 8:00, but it was more like somwhere between 8:25 and 8:30. I was in Section 8, Row 10. I was just a few rows in front of Mr Hayes' booth. I copied down the setlist as I heard it. Some parts might be a bit off:

1. Thunderstorm Intro
2. Let's Go Crazy
3. Delirious (w/Let's Go Crazy coda)
4. 1999
5. Little Red Corvette (w/Shhh)
6. Take Me With U
7. Maceo JB Song (Probably "Pass the Peas," I'm don't know as much JB stuff as I should.)
8. Raspberry Beret
9. Cream
10. Cool (w/Don't stop till U Get Enough)
11. Nothing Compares 2 U
12. Sample Set: When Doves Cry,Nasty Girl, The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, Forever in My Life, Alphabet St, Baby im a Star, Hot Thang, Darling Nikki, Kiss
12. Purple Rain
Encore:
13. Controversy (w/I like funky music and housequake chants)
In the Sampler Set, it was probably "I Would Die 4 U" instead of "Baby I'm a Star."
It was still an awesome show (as I feel all Prince shows are), but I was a little disappointed. Besides starting late and only running about an hour and a half, I don't remember him doing any dancing. He didn't have the audience on stage to dance with him. I was hoping for a few more non-album songs like "She's Always in my Hair" or "Empty Room." And I wish I wasn't behind the drums. He still came by our end every now and then.

Had a look at the setlist on Prince Vault, & blimey it sure looked like a shorter show. Maybe he'll do a blinder of an aftershow & was just saving his energy? Hope U guys get a good performance at the afterparty!

I enjoyed the aftershow SO much more than the regular concert. There weren't very many songs performed, just a lot of intense jamming, with a real focus on Maceo's sax. After a 30-minute set by the NPG, Prince came out during 'Which Way is Up' on guitar and then went into a stunning Stratus. While this isn't a set list per se because I probably don't have the order right, other highlights included Pass the Peas, You Got the Love, Sweet Thing (with Prince taking over on bass for the last half of the song), and a very extended funky Musicology. With all of the NPG stuff thrown in, the concert was just around twohours, 30 minutes longer than the regular show.

Wow, no dancing? No "Kiss"? I am sorry to hear this. sad

And yeah, it's his magic that make us feel good even if the concert seems different to the ones before. And finally this kind of magic and being able to see and hear him live will last.

So good to see that you even enjoyed it. Good things ends always to soon.wink

Ah, this might be the reason why the concert it self seems to be different than the others in Canada. It really seems he saved the energy for this last and final performance. wink

He did play Kiss, actually. He substuted "Real Housewives" for "Dynasty", and then he did a little solo dance afterward. It was cool to see him move. A shame the show was so short, but the afterjam was an awesome experience!

Sorry with the late review. I had a really fantastic time, despite the audience not being as lively as I'd like, I was with the right people and it was the first time for my lady. There's nothing better then a first timer because theyre energy is new and refreshing. I agree that it was REALLY short and I was surprised about the encores, I even explained to my friends how Prince operates and how you have to shout to get him to come back out... like a game. So I wasn't impressed with the results. LOL

Unfortunately, because I was with friends and family, I didnt make the after party and I am kicking myself for it. I think that would have been a much better place to bring someone new to Prince's music. Regardless, the newbies I was with were FLOORED and I had a really great time. I mentioned it before, but one of Prince's little quips about Occupy was thrown in there when he talked about "we need to occupy the radios.." I aint mad at that if its blazing the purple funk! I do hope he is coming with some new material and videos soon. I need to keep my newly introduced people into it. razz

Well this was a dream come true. We coined it "Prince Day" and "Prince Nite". Got to hear him open with two words "Dearly Beloved". Just that alone and I was gone. So glad you posted set list cuz I was just taken away...my crew and I danced and sang and screamed the nite away. We loved the doo rags and flowing dresses, shirts , etc. that created a relaxed fun vibe. We had seats just a little bit up, near the piano, which were perfect because we could see him and all of them and the stage, way better than the floor (with the exception of the VIP).He was so much more open and free in his spirit than I have seen in the past. So yes it was a short show but I really believe that was the crowds fault. It's ok I'd go again right now if I could. But the after party...was a miracle!! Almost 2 hours of him?? It will live forever inside me. He wore pink shirt and pants under a black jacket and was playful and even shook his booty. He grabbed Andy at one point and danced with her. We danced on the stairs and had perfect vision of his guitar skills. Now slowly we drive a long drive to reality on this "Day after Prince Day".

I couldn't believe that he played "1999" live, and the whole bleeping thing, too! My 13-year-old self was squeeing like a fool. Then when he did the sampler set and "Darling Nikki" started, that was IT. Even the 20 seconds were enough for me. I love the fact he's acknowledging those songs that made him a superstar, even if they don't jibe with who he is now.

I was disappointed that the show wasn't longer, but I was more disappointed that someone stole my tourbook while my husband and I were standing around our seats trying to figure out whether there would be a third encore. Even so, our seats got moved from the nosebleeds and we ended up being 40 feet from the man himself. Not bad for $25 seats!

And the afterparty further blew my mind. We ended up about five rows back from the NPG, and thank goodness we went. My husband and I were happy he shredded on the guitar (an element missing in Tacoma), and it was so cool to hear an extended "Musicology." Overall, it goes down as one of the most incredible nights of my life. It was worth the four-hour drive through fog and freezing rain.

He only performed, as far as I know. I left as soon as the show was done, because it was 4:00am and I felt like I was going to fall over, LOL! It was hard for me to see, but I don't believe he jammed with anyone other than the NPG.

I did not/could not go to the concert, but I have seen a few clips online and the one thing I noticed is that he is filled out and healthier looking than I expected. Andy looked really thin, but that's not uncommon for someone that young. The way he looked could have been caused by distortion from the camera, but I was expecting him to be stick thin. And he wasn't. He had on a sleeveless vest and his arms were solid and looking strong. His face was beautiful. And I mean beautiful.

Yes! I was surprised (and pleased) by his current figure. He was looking' good! (I would go on forever about it, but I'm holding back, LOL!) I was close enough to clearly see his face, and his youthfulness never fails to boggle my mind. lol Most impressive was his energy. He was still going strong at 4am! Puts my 29 year old self to shame, that's for sure. wink

I agree he looked really really good in the clips. He must be doing a "special" workout plan. I'm a twenty-something and trust me I would be all over him myself. I,can see why he would be appealing to Andy. I can't hate. Hope he stays looking this good!

You can probably count When Doves Cry, Forever in My Life, and Hot Thing as full songs because he played nearly full versions of those during the sampler set, so 16 songs, but yeah, still-- very short show!
