Anyone interested in a (non GC) ticket? And maybe even to join my ride from Ghent? Given the two concerts in Ghent, my girlfriend will not join me to this one, so I have one spare ticket.

Hey all you wonderful Luxembourg people!

Which area is the best place to stay in town considering the easiest way to get to the venue (and the airport).

Looking forward to a lux concert in Luxembourg! biggrin

Puuuh, you can get very close to the venue by train but unfortunately not to the airport...I'm not too familiar with the airport in Luxemburg, but the easiest thing would be to catch a bus to Luxemburg City's "gare centrale". From there you can get on the train direction Esch/Alzette and leave it at Belval (1 stop after Esch/Alzette, which is the second "biggest" town in the Grand-Duchy)... The venue is about 20km from Luxemburg-City, but I wouldn't recommend going with a cab as they are very expensive... If I remember well, you have hotels next to the airport, but I think they are rather expensive. It all depends, when you have to catch your plane... When do you arrive anyway (if I may ask)?

Thanks Lefreck! I'm arriving tomorrow night and leaving again Thursday morning. So I should get of the train station called Belval, and from there I can walk to the concert hall?

And how about getting back to town at night (or to an afterparty!). Does the trains run at night or do I have to catch a bus or something!?

The train station is called "Belval-Université". There'll be trains back to Luxemburg-City 20 minutes after the concert as well as on 23h11, 23h41 and 00h11... The concert ticket can be used to use public transport for free... An aftershow would be fine... never attended to one, unfortunately. Although I have to work on Thursday, that would be the "cerise sur le gâteau" eek

Super! Looking for a hotel in the center of Luxembourg. And great with the concert ticket valid as train ticket. Makes it much easier to get around... Thanks again!

And if ever you get a chance to go to an aftershow, remember, you can sleep when you get old! lol

Hope to find out if there is one. Luxemburg is so small that nearly everybody knows someone who knows biggrin Would also like to know where the golden circle is. I hope it is next to the stage...

I did! And I'm so following the move of the org! And yes, I'm also wondering how many hard core fans will be waiting all day, and what time one should arrive (with a golden circle ticket)...

I'm really excited about this gig! It's my dream to hear him play A Case of U, but I also hope to hear some of the 20ten material...

biggrin biggrin biggrin

There are some shops, cafe's etc. next to the venue, even a cinema (if you want to see Harry Potter before Prince) and all films are normally in their original language in Luxemburg. I won't be there before 5pm as I have 2 work till 4pm... Already got contacted from a spanish orger which I will hopefully recognise...

Returned back home after spending maybe a 1000 EUR and 48 hours on this Prince adventure – and for what?

I made it to almost front row close to the piano which – as pointed out by Lefreck – he didn’t touch! WTF? A bad bad choice in my opinion! confused

Correct me if I'm wrong fellow Luxembourg orgers, but it seemed to me that the concert had a lot of rock-ish tunes, and some of those he rarely plays – or at least some I hadn’t heard live before. The setlist seemed more like an aftershow than a concert, which was fine by me. I got a music experience different from what probably could have been.

The sound level was way too high! Especially on Maceo’s sax! I’m curious how it sounded further back, but in the front it was dangerously high! I had something to protect my ears, but of course it also takes some of the fine nuances to the music. It’s really a pity the sound has to be so high at concerts...

The flow of the concert was not doing it for me. Too many abrupt moments with the audience finally getting into it, then Prince says ’thank u, good nite’, the band leaves the stage, and then they come back again throwing in some more rock, and the audience has to get back in gear again. Maybe it’s just me, but I couldn’t feel the crazyness among the audience enough to pull off this leave/come back thing. It ruined my flow of the experience. And on a side note: Even the two great classics like Nothing Compares 2 U and Purple Rain were kind of medium to me and I had images of drunk-on-beer-football-singing-fans when the crowd sang along. I liked it though when they shot those purple/gold canons, that was cool!

Andy Allo: She is receiving mixed criticism here on the org. She’s cute, she can sing, dance and smile, and surely brings energy to the stage and to Prince (great chemistry! smile). But is she sharp enough as a musician in the band? I’m not convinced yet.

A highlight of the evening was the duo in Something in the water does not compute with Cassandra O’Neal on gospel/jazz flavored keys. At this point – because of the high sound level and the constant rock feeling – I needed to hear something a bit more soft and slow tempo. Without Renato in the current line-up (and I LOVE Renato!), it was a nice surprise to hear Cassandra and discover how much – and what a difference – she adds to the band. She had a good shine! And I hope Prince will listen some more to what she has to say on the keys.

Another highlight was the solo between Maceo and Prince during (was it) Peach (?). That was just super cool! And the band was jumping up and down afterwards – double cool!

And a third highlight was Ida’s nice melodic bass solo (can’t remember which song). She's never striked me as Prince’s most funky bass player, but she has a softness and humbleness that comes across on the more softer songs, and it sure did on this solo.

All in all a pretty mixed evening for me. I wasn’t over the top with this concert, but I did get to hear some of the rare stuff and also got to witness some of the musicians from a new perspective. Despite the high sound level (which was the most annoying part of the evening for me) the concert was still a refreshing encounter… And I’m still looking forward to the August dates in Copenhagen.

Peace!

Nice review, fully agreed! You must have been right behind me: On my left side was a young guy wearing a black/red SexyMF-Tshirt (my son). Sorry we didn't meet, neither did I see/recognize that spanish orger who contacted me...

I remember you and your son in the line waiting to get in (I thought it was so sweet to see father & son together at a Prince concert touched), but I didn't see you inside, then again I didn't pay much attention to the people around me, I just tried to catch as much of the show as possible (I'm not very tall neutral )
