And here I thought this was the place to read a review of the show....silly me. Why does EVERY thread on the ORG turn into a "I'm a better Prince fan than you because..."?

I always tell them that you're not a bigger Prince fan than me you're just a fatter Prince fan than me! lol

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Oh God! Talk about a downer!! He's worried about people covering his shit, and then the public thinks he's covering THEM. But he sits there and pulls this dumb shit and asks one of the people who covered his songs to join him at HIS concert for his performance of it. Does that make sense? Either stick to your guns or shut the fuck up! The contradictions with this man just will not end.

And yes, I've had a couple of people ask me didn't Alicia do the song first, swearing up and down that he's covering HER song. Oy vey! disbelief

If anything, at least this show seems to be a good bit different so far.

He is confusing isn't he. lol

He is confusing for people on this board who do not know what the fuck they are talking about.

He has said numerous times that he does not mind his friends covering the songs. I really think that anyone with a lick of sense could see that it is a respect thing. My guess is Alicia may have asked if she could cover the song and that seems to be P issue.

I kind of got this from listing to what he has been saying on this topic for years and not having my mind made up about it like most people on this board.

Is Prince your god, man, or father, and I just insulted him? If not, you need to learn to de-sensitize. Why should you care what I think or say about Prince? Methinks you're the one that needs a life.

And for someone who thinks I "live on a message board", you must live right next door to me because you're reading every one of my comments every step of the way.

Oh, and that little part of his interview about his friends is contradicting and the dumbest statement since...since...well, your last post.

Not sure whether you live on the message board or not, but your original post about the topic was pretty stupid. But worry not, one must sift through a few ignorant statements from time to time on prince.org before getting to something of substance. Prince referred to his songs being covered without his permission...key word is: without. Now, I'm sure you're aware of Prince's history, so it wouldn't require much deductive reasoning to conclude that PART of his beef was pertaining to how Warner Brothers handled his music. As far as Alicia Keys goes, there is no irony, because like many artists whom he feels plays "real music," Prince is a fan of hers. He supported her when she was a new artist and attended her shows multiple times. Prince has also stated several times that Chaka Khan's version of "I Feel For You" is much better than his. Songs like "When You Were Mine," "Do Me, Baby," "Kiss," and "Nothing Compares 2 U," obviously represent work that didn't improve when they were remade, but "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?" was covered effectively by Keys, and though it probably didn't improve the original, it was a respectable and quality version.

No, the point is, and this is what I've been saying all the while, is that he needs to shut up when it comes to covers, especially with the glass house he's living in. He wants only supposed "friends" to cover his material as a recording, as long as it improves upon the original? So, what's his excuse for covering - on record - Betcha By Golly Wow and La La La Means I Love You?? They're certainly not improvements, and I doubt he was friends with the Stylistics or Delfonics.

My point is, he's full of contradictions, and I'll always call him out on it. And as far as "living on a message board", now THAT'S a "pretty stupid" comment. But whatever, your opinion.

Sounds like there are strange happenings at the Forum tonight.

Prince played for around 90mins (reports on the time are mixed), with two encores - all reports are of an awesome show. BUT, folks wanted more.

Now over an hour has passed, the arena is mostly empty, but diehard fans still won't leave.

Some 30mins ago (or thereabouts) he apparently came out on his bicycle and cycled around, only to disappear again.

A keyboard came out.

A keyboard went back in.

Will he play again? The fans obviously won't leave until either he does or security kicks them out.

I suspect reception was bad in the arena, as setlists are hard to come by, but after FSS was:

Take Me With U

Raspberry Beret

Cream

C O O L / Don't Stop Til You Get Enough (ironic, lol)

How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore

Also in there somewhere was Controversy, WDC (not sure how much) and Purple Rain.

Not sure what else...

falloff

So only Prince's contradictions matter to you? People in your daily life can be as jacked up as they want to be as long as Prince keeps it on the up and up? All other artists can be contradictory but Prince has to toe the line every day of his life? What about yourself? Can you be contradictory and it's cool or are you as hard on yourself as you are on Prince?

His contradictions don't "matter" to me, as in the sun'll rise and set on them. But, when he makes public statements and actions that aren't in line with one another, there's nothing wrong with pointing it out. I'm sure other artists/celebrities/athletes/etc... do it too, but guess what? I don't listen to them as I do Prince. I'm sure folk are contradictory everyday, but they're not trying to get the world's attention like Prince does, so I can't call it out or know what the hell they're doing.

Why in the hell are you arguing about Prince being so blatantly contradictory?? You're acting like it isn't true, and he's your friend/family member/protector/whatever and you're taking what I say personally. Stop being so sensitive! He's a celebrity, and with that, these are the breaks. Break it up, break it up, break it up!

Exactly. Maybe if this dumbfuck would've actually listened to the recent interview instead of living on this message board 24/7, maybe he would've heard how he doesn't mind his friends covering his songs.

She wasn't a friend when she covered it. She even said he was upset with her, but she begged him to listen to it and he liked it.

I was at this show and was disappointed it was only 90 minutes. We waited an hour after the show to see if he would come back out and security finally kicked us out. The bike ride was classic though!

Security was really trying to convince people to leave, but once Prince rode out on the bike, it only fueled the fires of everyone's belief he was going to be playing more. And when the keyboard came out, forget it, people in the section I ran down to had no intention of leaving. Security was very understanding, but also anxious to be winding things down which I understand. Security joked that he "isn't going to be riding that bike after tonight."

I'm pretty sure Prince has the ability to do whatever he wants during the Forum run, but I'd be surprised if he wasn't politely asked to decrease the time between encores or the start of the first encore so security doesn't have to wait around forever. Those encores on the 23rd ran one right after the other and the bulk of the crowd stayed. Given that the word on encores is out, unless it is made real clear he isn't coming back out (i.e. the drums, instruments, etc. being taken away), people are going to be waiting 45 mins-hour after the last song.

Despite the comparatively short length of the set, there were moments of this set I enjoyed more than the 23rd (also an excellent show). I was happy to hear 20Ten material and the way Prince opened the show with the lights on and just staring at the crowd while walking around the stage...he set an awesome vibe and I felt the show had great energy.

Who says he doesn't play the new stuff? Did you become a new Prince fan yesterday? For the first time in his 50 or so concerts since the release of 20Ten almost a YEAR ago, he plays 3 songs in one show. At those 50 concerts, there have been maybe one performance of Endlessly, 3 of FSS, 4 of Laydown, and I think one of Sticky like Glue. That makes about 10 total performances of his new songs covering over 700 songs performed, and you want to believe he is playing his new stuff.

I've been a fan for 28 years. I'm sorry we got three new songs and you didn't get any, but that's no reason to be mad at me. He performed the whole show except for Shelby singing one song while he took a break, and he did complete versions of everything except the piano sampler medley.

Three new songs in a 90 minute set for an artist almost 35 years into his career is pretty good. Sorry you were disappointed by the shows you got.

I'm not mad at you, but by saying that Prince is playing new stuff the way you did is like saying that He has had 20 Top 40 hits since 2005. That is called misinformation. Just because somebody does something once or twice doesn't make him like that all the time. Just because Prince played new songs at the show you went to does not mean that he is some radical risk taking new song player. Even U2 is playing 3 songs per night from their under performing album from 2009. In 2013, you will not hear him play a damb thing from 20Ten, and you know it.

Unless he plays new songs at the majority of the shows for the rest of the year, this cat is in Greatest hits mode. He has no faith in 20Ten as a successful album.

The last time he played new material at all other than a song or two was for the Rainbow Children. In the USA, he played nearly the entire thing. By the time the tour got overseas, he cut a few of the new songs and brought in SOTT, The Ladder, etc...

It is time to accept the fact that it has been 9 years since he really played new material, and he is seemingly going to be in a Greatest Hits Vegas mindset from now on. I can only hope that he snaps out of it, and insn't afraid to play new stuff.

Flew in from Sydney to see this show, so my expectations were high. Whilst Prince and the bad put on a short and sweet set, the show had some cool highlights including Alicia Keys and Prince duetting on How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore.

The setlist of 19 songs mixed old and new. After the show the diehards hung around hoping for more, but it wasn't to be - save for Prince doing a quick lap on a pushbike - something perhaps rarer than a extended encore.

All in all a good show, expectations met - but not surpassed. For that, I would have to come back on Saturday night.

Set list:

  1. (live debut)
  2. (with America interpolation)
  3. (Lyrics changed to Inglewood Swinging)
  4. (Shelby J. on lead vocals)
  5. (with Alicia Keys)
  6. (Sampler medley)
  7. Encore:
  8. (With Housequake interpolation)
  9. Encore 2:
"I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

Learn to "de-sensitize"? Haha! FIRST of all, maybe you should learn that there is no "hyphen" in the word desensitize! And SECOND, maybe you should visit your local drugstore so you could desensitize your penis with some desensitizing cream if you ever get laid! Having never been laid before, I'm sure you'll only last a minute if you're lucky! I mean, with the negative way you come across here, I don't see how you'll ever get laid, or that you've even had sex before. Well, then again, I could see that a negative loser like yourself is into something like beastiality or necrophilia since everyone knows that's the only way you're able to get any.

And yes, you are a dumbfuck! Apparently I'm not the only one who agrees here.

Not on the 22nd no. He did play it on the 23rd.

As I noted, his voice seemed to be strained towards the latter half of the show so might have been why Kiss wasn't included. Or maybe he just wasn't feeling it.

Prince has contradicted himself countless times and if we dissect his comments about covers, we can find contradictions there, as well. But all human beings that are willing to evolve contradict themselves, and for ANY musical artist that's worth appreciating, I would think fans would want them to evolve...but I could be wrong since music fans surprise sometimes with their shallowness. Since Prince converted to becoming a Jehovah's Witness, would you consider "Holy River" and "Anna Stesia" examples of contradiction or great work of art from a person who felt a certain way at the time?

Did he really not play Kiss? smile

Not on the 22nd no. He did play it on the 23rd.

As I noted, his voice seemed to be strained towards the latter half of the show so might have been why Kiss wasn't included. Or maybe he just wasn't feeling it.

ahh okk makes sense, his falsetto has seemed slightly strained recently but it shows that he doesn't need to play some of these songs to play a brilliant show smile
